Local Forecast / Re: Question Regarding WeatherSTAR XLs and...
« on: September 04, 2022, 05:10:32 PM »
...special weather statements/significant weather alerts. (Which, with NWS coding, are one in the same)

How long do Special Weather Statements run on the XL? On IntelliSTAR, I believe it runs for 10 minutes, and then cuts off. Honestly, it should run longer, especially with Significant Weather Alerts. (Usually issued when a storm is just below severe levels, yet could still do damage)

Thanks,
Matt

Special Weather Statements ran for 10 minutes on the XL as well. All crawls did on both STARs, except for red crawl warning, which run until the warning expired, or in the case of a Flash Flood Warning, which run for longer than 10 hours, but not for the extended hours it would last for.

TWC should return to live weather programming 2pm-5pm instead of reruns of long form programming.
Leave the long form for evenings and overnight. vidmate.app saveinsta
Are you living in a world where it's pre-January 2014? Because since the DirecTV dispute in January 2014, TWC has had live weather every weekday from 2pm-5pm et, barring major holidays.

Does anybody have any full national satellite LF clips from the 1998-mid 1999 timeframe? I find the format they used then interesting to see since the only videos that exist are partial recordings. Years ago, on the twcclassics website, there was a full one from April 1998 with the song "L'Arc En Ciel De Miles" by "Incognito", but that hasn't been seen in years. Is there any chance that and/or some other full satellite LF clip from the 1998-mid 1999 timeframe is around somewhere? Also, are "Bobby Love's" songs from "Channel Weather" and "Channel Weather II" that played on TWC back in the late 1990s available anywhere? At the very least, if they're out of print but somebody has the CD, is there any chance that person could please post them on YouTube for people (including me) can enjoy the full-length versions of those classics from the late 1990s?

General Discussion / Re: Taiganet No More?
« on: July 21, 2022, 11:33:53 PM »
I know the site has gone down before, but usually pops back, would be a shame to see it discontinued.  Let's hope someone out there sees these posts and can offer more information.
Chances are, it's down for whatever reason. If the site was discontinued, it would give you a page displaying links to other websites or something rather than keep loading, then saying can't reach this page like you're not connected to the internet. The NWS servers could also be broken down and it's taking days and counting to get repaired, which has caused Taiganet to go down in the past.

I was wondering, if the Local on the 8s format ever did change, what do you think is the most likely possibility? Share your thoughts on the poll above.

These backgrounds are from after the LOT8's rebranding done in late 2019.

Enjoy!

Ever since the icon change way back on December 12, 2006, "Showers Nearby" on the "Current Conditions" has used the "Scattered Showers" icon. However, since last summer, I have noticed that this inconsistently uses either the "Scattered Showers" icon or the "AM Showers"/"Few Showers" icon on the IntelliStar 2s. I also noticed that on a newly posted Weatherscan video (which over 8 years outdated, is still using the 2010 icons), "Showers Nearby" is using the "Rain/Showers/Light Rain" icon, which I'm surprised that Weatherscan would even get an update in the 2020s, unless this is an update to the "Current Conditions" system that would automatically go through to Weatherscan. Is there a reason for an inconsistency on "Showers Nearby" sometimes using the "Scattered Showers" icon and sometimes using the "Rain/Showers/Rain" (on Weatherscan) or the "AM Showers/Few Showers" (on the TWC IntelliStar 2s) icon?

The "Rain" icon seen on the picture above is missing from the package on the link you posted. What's also missing is the "Snow Flurries" icon (one that has slightly less snow than "Snow Showers" and "Light Snow". Is there a way you could please fix that?

Local Forecast / Re: Setting Sun by Nathaniel Valentin Bolensky

Here's where I found it listed: https://weatherchannel.fandom.com/wiki/July/August_2007_Playlist
Plus there are also 2 posts on here that talk about this song: https://twctodayforums.com/forums/local-forecast/here-is-the-july-2007-playlist/
https://twctodayforums.com/forums/local-forecast/need-playlists-from-2007-and-2008/
Your playlist doesn't even list this song because 32 songs are listed on your playlist for July/August 2007, but there were actually 33 (while 15 Daytime, 10 Primetime, and 10 Overnight would be 35, 2 songs played in both Daytime and Primetime, which would mean there were 33 unique songs).

Hmm. I counted 31 unique songs on that page. (I added them to an Excel spreadsheet, sorted by first letter, and then deleted the duplicates.) Anyway, I sent an email to someone that might know. I'll post his answer here when I get it.

Update: He responded and believes that the song is "After Sunset" by Vince Madison on my playlist. He's not sure why it was originally under the name Nathaniel Valentin Bolensky.

I think he's right. "After Sunset" is not listed on the pages I linked to. No wonder I couldn't find "Nathaniel Valentin Bolensky" anywhere, I was looking for an artist who doesn't exist. This song was carried over from May/June 2007 Overnight and returned for the January 2008 Primetime playlist. Also, the "Weather Channel" "Fandom" page lists the correct song and artist name for the May/June 2007 and January 2008 playlists, so I don't get the alternate name and artist for July/August 2007. Also, people on here have talked about "After Sunset" over the years. It does make sense that "Setting Sun" is actually "After Sunset", since the titles are similar.

Since I know what the other 9 Overnights from that playlist sound like, I would know what "Setting Sun" was by process of elimination if I heard it. Maybe someday, you could go through your footage from July/August 2007 and see what you could find from the 1-5am et time slot (which was the time slot for Overnight back then), if perhaps, "Setting Sun" is in one of the LFs from then. If you know what the other 9 songs from that Overnight sound like like I do, you'll know "Setting Sun" by process of elimination if you hear it.

Is this song from the July/August 2007 Overnight playlist available anywhere under a different name and/or artist? It's one of the songs MrDaniel789 from YouTube is missing from his July/August 2007 playlist clips, and there are no clips from anybody else anywhere with this song, and I'm interested in hearing what it even sounds like.

TWC Today News / Re: Some changes on the Forum
« on: January 07, 2022, 10:24:15 AM »
Yes, to answer to the above questions, and to reiterate a previous point.. We are working on a plan to design a forum-integrated 'home' page. Two goals that are apart of this are to re-theme the forum, and to include basically a landing page where these previous components of TWCT website would be available.
Are there still plans to re-add the old components of the TWCToday website to the forums? I'm only asking because it's been almost 2 years and no sign of anything has shown up yet.

Programming and Graphics / Weather Center Live Discontinued
« on: November 13, 2021, 11:22:51 AM »
Some of you may have seen this coming, but after seeing its time gradually diminished out twice in a year in favor of AMHQ/America's Morning Headquarters being expanded twice, Weather Center Live is officially no more. Starting on Monday, Weather Underground is moving to the 12-4pm et time slot and a new show titled Storm Center will take over from 4-8pm et. https://twitter.com/weatherchannel/status/1459252348031750148

Local Forecast / Re: Pleasant Days by Robert McLaughlin found...
« on: October 01, 2021, 11:38:44 PM »
There were a lot of songs submitted under different names and titles in the late 90s and 2000s. I'm not sure why, but maybe it had something to do with licensing? I just did a quick search, and it appears that Gary and Robert/Bobby are friends on Facebook. So maybe Bobby submitted it on Gary's behalf?
Maybe there was a licensing issue preventing them from using Gary's name so they used Bobby's name who submitted My Heaven to TWC under the title Pleasant Days on Gary's behalf after the latter recorded the song? Maybe it's just like how there were songs Incognito and Soul Café released on CDs submitted to TWC under different titles and under aliases CC Gilmore and Samuel Lincoln for Frank Josephs and Ray Herrmann, respectively. BTW, there did you find the Facebook page suggesting that Gary and Bobby were friends?

Has anybody figured out just how exactly this song had the wrong title and artist? It was even listed as being on a Bobby Love album titled Channel Weather II. Could Gary Brown have had some connection with Bobby Love in 1999 and then re-released it under his own name with a different title in 2003 when the album with it called The Key came out?
