General Weather Chat / Re: Weather Station
« on: March 08, 2012, 12:17:49 AM »
I hope you all realize that any TWC weather station is cheap and will perform poorly.  I've had better luck with simple Radio Shack thermometers than anything from TWC.  The bottom line is that if you really want a good weather station, you'll have to consider spending in the range of $250-$1,000.
Well I realized it now, the hard way.  :itsok:

Which TWC LaCrosse model do you have? coincidentally, my weather station is a La Crosse with TWC logo on it and its wind anemometer isnt all that great
I have a TWC Lacrosse weather station I got back in 2009, but it doesn't work right anymore. The station can't fetch info from the outside instruments, and I've tried replacing all the batteries, using a different cable, cleaning/securing the objects, etc. I have everything on a makeshift telephone pole-like structure I put together in my backyard since I live in a townhome association and as such I can't put anything on the roof (where I would probably put my anemometer and rain gauge at).

I think the main problem here is that the setup needs to be overhauled. If you look at CNNs studios, they have several lage video walls that are all sharp and bright. Probably a cost saving move on TWCs part back when they were building the studio. The new studios were a big move also to make it more appealing to buyers
Landmark was on its last legs when TWC upgraded so I won't be surprised if that was the case. As well, green products were the key back then, which is something that isn't much of a concern to companies these days due to the economy.

When do they usually start switching packages over to summer? I know it's a headend to headend basis.
Late March/early April.

Here's a little friendly reminder about next Sunday:  Daylight Saving Time begins on March 11 at 2 AM local time.  Make sure you set your clocks ahead one hour at that point.  This forum will handle the DST change automatically, so check your forum profile to ensure your time offset setting is correct for your time zone. ;)
Hate losing that extra hour of sleep! Oh well, at least that's the week of my spring break

It's $3.55 here.

If you're looking for gas below $3, you can still go to Wyoming: http://www.wyominggasprices.com/

If it's really that important to you, you can bring the issue to the headend techs as they control the ad crawl.

Anybody think TWC will go commercial/LF free today? My gut tells me they will considering today could potentially be the worst outbreak we have seen since April 27, 2011 and definitely for 2012.
Don't know about commercial free, but reduced LFs definitely isn't out of the question here.

General Discussion / Re: Economy Tracker

A good reason why the stock market is never a good true indicator of a country's economy: the Dow today closed up above 13,000. The last time the Dow was at that level, our jobless rate was nearly half of what it is now.
It is an indicator, just not the sole indicator.

Yikes - that 4000 is in awful condition, except, interestingly, for the radar!  I must admit, though, that it makes for some very interesting visual effects.
The radar usually doesn't degrade much when there isn't precipitation on it.
