General Discussion / Re: Android phone apps
« on: September 17, 2015, 09:45:48 PM »
As Billy said, optimizer apps aren't worth it. I find that they can make the problem worse depending. I've gotten into the habit of manually clearing programs in your recent apps (usually holding the home button, or a physical button on the Samsung Galaxy).
And use the task manager (on most phones by also holding the home button) and clear the memory. More often than not when people tell me their phones are laggy, I check how many apps they "minimize" with the home button, and the number of instances of the same app I see just makes me laugh.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Looking for ID... Weather Channel Station ID Music
« on: September 17, 2015, 09:09:00 PM »
I've been desperate to know the music used during that era I have my doubts we'll ever find out. Obviously it's well past the Network Music days and before they started using Stephen Arnold. Most likely it was composed specifically for TWC. I know there was a minute long clip of this track somewhere, I posted a link on the old TWCC boards but can't find it now.

While we're on the subject of 2012 music, has anyone had any luck with Yohan Bjork?

I still check in here regularly (not always logging on), but haven't really watched TWC at all since about 2012. I think the main reason is most of the user base, including myself, that helped form this community 10+ years ago stopped checking in and not enough newer users have joined on board to keep this active. I for one have been pretty busy lately... trying to transfer out to a university by the spring while at the same time trying to land a more stable place to make a living.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Vivian Brown DONE at TWC
« on: September 08, 2015, 10:06:46 AM »
Seidel is used frequently in field reportings and Carfagno's got a lot of fame from advertisements (plus, doesn't she fill in on AMHQ a lot?), so I doubt they'll be getting rid of those. I would expect Kelly Cass or any of the other personalities that have been demoted to "contributors" the last several months to be axed next. Brown's departure doesn't surprise me, but still sad to see her go as I've grown up watching the long lived team of Vivian and Jeff on afternoons after school.

This leaves Cantore as the only OCM left who's been with the network since the 80s.

General Discussion / Re: Windows 10
« on: August 02, 2015, 06:55:06 PM »
I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10 on Wednesday and seem to be (based on articles, reviews, etc.) one of the few people who doesn't like it.  My computer actually seems slower since the upgrade.  Apps and programs load very slowly for me.  This really doesn't feel like much of an upgrade either, as if it's more Windows 8.2 than a whole new operating system.
I'm obliged to ask, did you do a clean install? Since this helped when I upgraded to 8.1 as opposed to 8 as I had the same issue.

This just came to me the other day, but anyone think this will affect Weatherscan's fate? Since it's essentially the same hardware (and likely the same feed) as the domestic IS.

Everything Else TWC / Production Music Identification Thread
« on: June 05, 2015, 10:29:13 PM »
Figured I'd create a thread to help us identify production tracks used by TWC (i.e. VideoHelper).

Anyone know what these two are?

OCMs / Chris McGinnis
« on: June 04, 2015, 08:17:13 PM »
Came across this promo from 1999 and mentions a travel expert named Chris McGinnis. Anyone familiar with him? Neither site mentions him so thought I'd bring this up. A quick search reveals he had been at TWC for two years. I'm presuming in the 1998-2000 timeframe before Dennis Smith became the travel expert when Your Weather Today launched?  :dunno:

Surprised this name doesn't even ring a bell to me as this was during the era I started following TWC...

Programming and Graphics / 05-08 Openers Request
« on: May 13, 2015, 04:59:08 PM »
Does anyone have any high quality segment openers (preferably without any voiceover) from the 2005-08 era? Any would be great, but I'm especially looking for all of PME's and Afternoon Outlook's segment/regional openers (WP/Travel/Lifestyles/Storm Watch), Day Planner storm watch, and any FO openers. If you do please let me know here or via PM or email. I had many of these but lost them in a failed hard drive. Thanks! B)

I'm back!
I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I've been gone from these forums for 7-8 years. I left when I was 13 because I got in trouble for being on these forums.

Anyway, obviously I'm a lot older now (and not still in trouble from that!).

Welcome back! I do remember you, wow was it that long ago?

i hope for this storm to be deadly so we can blame The Weather Channel's lack of coverage on the deaths of people
I'm sorry, but this is one of the most absurd posts I've seen on this board. If you don't like how TWC covers storms find another source. But hoping for more deaths for any reason is just wrong.
