Programming and Graphics / Re: Major schedule changes on the way
« on: February 18, 2009, 06:28:21 AM »
As I understand it, TWC in Hawaii went away during the early part of this decade, but they were brought back at the start of either 2007 or 2008 - can't remember which.
Had to had been at least 2007. IIRC, Derek posted pictures of the Hawaii IntelliStar from Summer 2007. The 4000 indeed had no radar, but I'm not sure if that's still the case with the IntelliStar.

I have a black 30GB iPod Video that I got back in Christmas 2005. Still works great after 3+ years.

General Discussion / Re: Digital Transition
« on: February 17, 2009, 08:52:29 PM »
As we all know, today was the originally scheduled day for the digital transition. Even though it no longer is, some stations are still going to cut the analog signal anyway. Which stations in your market are still going ahead with the transition?

In mine, WBFF (Fox 45), WNUV (CW Baltimore, WBFF's sister), and WBOC (CBS, Salisbury)all will be switching tonight. All other stations have adopted the June 12 switchover date.
None around Philadelphia, but Atlantic City's WMGM and two Harrisburg stations were due to switch today.

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion
« on: February 16, 2009, 05:39:53 PM »
Does anyone know what the difference is (in meaning) of these two icons?

They're both AM clouds, PM sun, but the one on the left was used more on the maps on TWC for Partly Cloudy, iirc.
I can't see any pictures, but I'm assuming he's referring to the two AM clouds icons, the one with the cloud on the upper left and one with the cloud on lower left part of the sun. The first one (upper left) was used on the XL, and the early days of the Weatherscan IntelliStar. The second one debuted sometime in late 2002 on the national broadcasts. As Jesse stated, it was also used as a Partly Cloudy icon on national broadcasts from 2002-2003, except without the AM indicator of course.

The newer AM clouds icon debuted on the local forecasts on the IntelliStar in 2004, and the Weatherscan IntelliStar started using it too several months later on the extended forecast (the older version was still used on the regional maps however, until the icons upgrade in late 2006). The domestic XL still uses the older AM clouds icon to this day.

There was also an even older version of the AM clouds icon on the national broadcasts that looked similar to the mostly cloudy icon. They stopped using that in 2001 or 2002.

General Discussion / Re: Hotel Help

The Hampton Inn I went to last summer had a free breakfast bar, including hot items. Not sure if it was just the particular hotel I went to or all Hampton Inns though. Their food was pretty decent, but nothing like food you'd get at a fancy restaurant or something you could make yourself.

They've used a Weekend Now transition graphic a few times on Day Planner today.

Looks like the Weather Center-esque hour of Day Planner with Vivian is no more. Mike and Kim hosted the 1PM ET hour today despite the long-form programming, and the anchor desk was at the same position as the 10AM-12PM hours.

This pisses me off....the 8th police officer in Philadelphia got killed within 15 months. WTF is wrong with this city?
Was this another officer, or the one who got killed on Friday night?
