Everything Else TWC / TWC overusing production music
« on: June 22, 2009, 05:06:21 PM »
The use of production music has been happening since late 2005, but ever since late last year, they seem to use nothing but production music on all the shows except for PM Edition and Weather Center. Even the openers don't have the original show music on a lot of the shows. Why are they doing this? It makes their productions really sloppy. None of the other news stations I've seen are anywhere near as worse as this. All the local stations use their own themes as bumper music. So IMO, TWC should really get back to using each show's respected theme music.

General Discussion / Gary Papa dies
« on: June 19, 2009, 03:34:10 PM »
Gary Papa, one of WPVI-TV's most respected anchors, died less than an hour ago after a long battle against prostate cancer. I just heard about this while flipping to the AccuWeather channel when I caught Jim Gardner trying to hold his tears as he made the reporting. He was 54 years old.

General Discussion / Six Flags Seeks Bankruptcy
« on: June 13, 2009, 11:21:59 PM »
As previously speculated, Six Flags has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, having a reported $1.8 billion in debt. I hope Great Adventure, located a bit to my north, doesn't shut down. It's a popular destination for many schools here.

General Discussion / Traffic lights
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:45:14 PM »
Kind of a silly question, but since traffic lights are different from state-to-state and city-to-city, I figured I'd post a topic to see how they are installed on your area.

Ours (in Lower Bucks) are mounted vertically, on mast-arm poles. Most of them were installed no earlier than the mid-late 90's, though there are still a few older ones hanging around here. Since 2000, newly installed signals have had LEDs on the red and green lights and eventually yellow, and in 2005 most of the existing signals had LEDs installed on them.

Here are a few examples:

General Discussion / How old is your school?
« on: May 08, 2009, 02:24:07 PM »
My high school was built in 1975. A second gymnasium and new hallway was added in 1991, and a major addition that made the school twice as big was built in 2001. My school, standing at least 400,000 square feet, currently serves about 2,600 students. The old 1975 portion was modernized significantly in 2006-2007.

TWC and your Cable Company / DirecTV/DISH Question
« on: April 14, 2009, 02:46:53 PM »
If satellite providers have local channels, then why don't they carry NBC Plus/WeatherPlus and the AccuWeather Channel? Unlike TWC's STARs, these channels aren't powered in the headend but rather by the affiliates, so I don't understand why they aren't carried.

Contributions / Mike's Classic TWC Clips
« on: April 07, 2009, 10:37:29 PM »
Here are some long-overdue clips of Afternoon Outlook in 2005 featuring Jeanetta Jones. As you can see, during the last few weeks of this graphics package they used very little of it's elements (regional openers, transition graphics, etc). BTW, you probably noticed that Weather Wisdom segment at the end... none of those answers are correct anymore... the answer to that is now 2006. :P

Help and Support / Emulator Startup Issues
« on: April 06, 2009, 08:49:43 PM »
Whenever I restart/shut down my computer and start it again, my emulator seems to forget what packages I have set for it, resulting in an index out of bounds error. This requires me to have to login to the configuration panel to set up the packages everytime after I boot my system. This isn't really urgent, but it's rather annoying, and I appreciate it if you can look into this. Thanks.
