Overcast and breezy skies will prevail in the morning and then it will become sunny. Highs today are going to be in the mid 50s. Temperatures will remain around average for the weekend with a cool start to the next week as it will around 35 on Monday morning.

Growing seasons statement from NWS for Bismarck, ND

Growing Season Coming To An End
OCTOBER 15TH MARKS THE AVERAGE DATE OF A KILLING FREEZE ACROSS
WESTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH DAKOTA. SOME LOCATIONS HAVE NOT YET
RECEIVED A KILLING FREEZE. HOWEVER...NORMAL MORNING LOW TEMPERATURES
CONTINUE TO APPROACH FREEZING AND WE ARE COMING TO THE END OF THE
LOCAL GROWING SEASON. CONSEQUENTLY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
OFFICE IN BISMARCK WILL NO LONGER ISSUE FROST ADVISORIES...FREEZE
WATCHES...OR FREEZE WARNINGS THIS FALL. THIS SERVICE WILL RESUME
NEXT SPRING AT THE START OF THE LOCAL GROWING SEASON.

It makes sense that NWS no longer issue freeze watches/warnings because we are going to plunge into the deep freeze before too long. My personal forecast still calls for six snowstorms this winter, each dumping at least 6 inches of snow in Minot. This forecast will be revised as we progress through the winter season.

It is an overcast day on this the 12th of October. In Minot it is 49 with mostly cloudy skies. The low is running much above average for day as the normal is 35. I will call for partly cloudy skies with a less than 20% chance of rain showers or tstorm for the area today. It will remain variably cloudy through the rest of the week. The extended forecast shows a chance for rain next week with readings around normal - highs in the upper 40's to low 50s and lows in the mid to upper 30's. Frost might be on deck at some point during the next 10 days.

It is an partly cloudy and rather breezy morning once again in Minot. Parts of Central ND are under a high wind watch and  about 3/4 of the state (also for most of MN and SD), excluding Minot and NW ND are under another Red Flag warning for High winds and low humidity. A Red flag warning means a potential for wildfires due to extremely dry vegetation combined with abnormally warm temperatures and sustained winds of at least 30 MPH. Currently it is 64 degrees with partly cloudy and windy conditions. As a cold front sweeps through, which is providing the Mountains with locally heave snowfall there will be a chance for scattered showers and maybe a tstorm for today. Highs will be still be above average but not 25-30 degrees above normal. Lows are still trending much above avg. The chance for precipitation will stick with us throughout the weekend as cooler temperatures (55-65 for high) will be on tap for next week.
