Local Forecast / Weather Warning Question
« on: September 19, 2010, 08:31:50 AM »
Hi,

I was just curious how the watch/warning/advisory modes work. I notice that the most warnings are in red but not all. Same for watches. Come to think of it the only watch i've seen in yellow is a t'storm watch.  Does anybody know how these colors are assigned?

General Discussion / Weatherscan Emulator (Download link)
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:57:45 PM »
Hi, this may sound crazy but I am making a Weatherscan XL v1 emulator. Yes I am aware of Brians weatherscan v2 emulator right here at the forums, which of course was my very inspiration to make one, but mine will probably look shameful next to his. I desperately need the help of TWC experts like you guys. I need graphics (animated icons, maps) info about the XL (names of the fonts used, how LDL works). I am calling upon the kind help of you guys! Can anybody help me?  :dunno:

BTW I have my own forums here: http://www.weatherstar.forumotion.com

And my apologies admin if this is not the right place for this..

EDIT: I have most of what I need now

As far-fetched as this may sound I am making a XL radar map. I have found some old files I worked on and I'm basically halfway done. If in the final product I am able to provide an efficient and accurate map would you be willing to implement it into the emulator? And if so would it be okay If it is scaled to this NWS map here?: http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/RadarImg/NAT_20100808_1908.gif

Only thing I see wrong here is that the radar shows the lower frequencies of precipitation... like the blues and the greys :hmm:

Yeah thats the only down side...What radar would you suggest I use?

I have no idea what you mean by "black transitions" Do you mean its because some of the slides stay on for a second after transitioning? His screen recorder did that

I mean the little transition from local doppler to current conditions. Check this video below and compare it to the one above, one above has no black transition, the one below does. it isnt the recorder because I see it when i run the emulator myself. As I have said I just think optionalizing/removing them would make it more authentic to the real thing. I'm not trying to be bothersome.

Just have a couple more questions. How many screens will the airport package have (disregarding the local airport conditions)?

And sorry to bring up an old subject but I was just noticing that one of your earlier update videos was a bit different. Mainly that there was a window around the emulator, and the transitioning was slightly different (the "black" transitioning I mentioned before). Once again sorry to bug you about this, but if it's not too much trouble could you make those "black" transitions optional? I know its a very small thing but I strongly believe its just a step closer to making the emulator even more authentic than it already is. Here is the video btw:

Wow nice update Brian!! Just a little I noticed as well.
-The new font you used for the day like (Wednesday) looks EXACTLY like the same font used in Wxscan! but could you possibly increase the size of that font by just a tiny bit?
-In response to tuez13's suggestion about the radar I agree, can you maybe just allow an option to use TWC's maps?

Maybe this photo for the upnext page: http://minnesotagal.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/airplane1.jpg
And maybe the first photo I attached for the local airport conditions, and the second one for the nation airport conditions. What do you think?
