Your Local Weather / Baton Rouge Weather
« on: April 25, 2011, 12:11:33 PM »
I'm not sure if anybody else is getting a taste of the heat, but it has been pretty hot and humid as of late here! Temperatures are reaching near 90, and it isn't even July yet. Any other natives noticed that we've been getting our fair share of severe weather as of late too? I can't even remember a time where we had so many threats for or actual tornadoes along with hail!

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Anyone Shorter Than Jim Cantore?

Yep....definitely shorter than Jim at 5'5". Sadly I have my dad's athleticism but my mom's side of the family has the short genes. Jim still rocks regardless to how tall or short he may be

Say it isn't so!! I can't believe how TWC has been letting go of so many great OCMs lately. I was wondering why I hadn't seen her for a while. I think the network should've thought twice about merging with NBC because now everything is messed up, even the programming. I wish Alexandra the very best in all that she does, and she will most certainly be missed

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Stephanie Abrams

I think Stephanie would be a great teacher bergone! If the college I went to that I just graduated from actually HAD a meteorology program, I would definitely recommend her for teaching classes. Not only does she have a very vibrant personality, but she's very outspoken, quirky, fun, and sociable. Besides, I think more students enjoy classes with teachers who like to educate with a fun twist added to it  :D!

Programming / Re: Tropical Update maps

Those were some incredible pics to go with the narrative! I absolutely loved the 1990s programming being that there was better music, maps, and radars. Now I will admit...I do like the 3D satellite thing they've been doing lately, but I loved their old maps for hurricane season. Those noodle diagram things don't seem accurate to me, and I wonder if I'm the only one who feels that way about them. The 1990s were the good ol' days though *sigh*.

Programming / Re: When was TWC's best year?
« on: July 03, 2010, 02:38:14 PM »
I would have to say that TWC's best year was 1995. That was the year when large tornado outbreaks occured in the Plains, "Exposures" was the show to watch on weekends, and the LOT8s were even more catchy than they are now. Plus they had classic OCMs and severe weather experts, not saying the ones we see now aren't good :-)

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Alex

Alex certainly wasted no time intensifying!! It isn't even making a direct hit in Louisiana, but we're still getting some pretty good effects from it, more wind than rain though. Anybody on here that's in the effected areas be safe and take care!

Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC Poll
« on: June 18, 2010, 12:43:45 PM »
As much as I love TWC, I'll have to give its current state a 3. They're still managing to get the weather information out there accurately and in a timely manner, but at the same time, the programming kinda stinks. Sometimes the quality is poor, I definitely don't like the idea of showing movies on Friday nights (that's what HBO, Showtime, and other movie channels are for LOL), and since the merge with NBC, I don't care too much for them axing a lot of great OCMs. Even the LOT8s has kinda gone downhill because there's barely any original-sounding music!

I can't wait to see the A&B duo back in the studio together after a month and a half. Steph sounded super estatic when she posted on FB and Twitter on Friday! Both of them rock!!

Everything Else Classic TWC / Re: Need old logo
« on: June 10, 2010, 01:32:45 PM »
I loved the classic TWC! I'll never forget watching the LOT8s when there wasn't actual songs (although it's nice) and the tunes were catchy. I also loved "Exposures" with Dennis Smith on weekends. My favorite was the special on all of the tornadoes that struck in 1995. Good times

It's definitely a different look for Betty, but she looks stylish and very sophisticated with them! She's a great OCM hands down :-)

I'm very glad that they had a pretty awesome year this year unlike the dry spell during the summer last year. I wish them all the best for the remainder of the trip!

I'm going to miss Steve, too! Yeah I've been a member for quite a while, but then I lost my password and then trying to graduate kept me from logging on LOL! Thanks for the warm welcome! You guys have an awesome forum!

The new guy was alright Martin. When I heard Nick Walker say they had a NEW Hurricane Expert, my heart dropped! It's not going to be the same without Dr. Lyons being there. I do wish him the best though :-)
