TWC Fan Art / Re: weatherfan_2013's Wx Graphics

Haven't been here in a while but thought I share some cool graphics I made on a TruVu Max machine! All banners and backgrounds were made by me using various applications including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, and TruVu Max!

I found this interesting. As of June 20, 2018, VizRT has discontinued it's Viz Weather software.

http://www.vizrt.com/incoming/54666/End_of_Life_Announcement_%E2%80%93_Viz_Weather

Now they will continue product support until June 20, 2020, this means that the Viz Weather application will no longer receive critical updates or support after that date. As for The Weather Channel, this could be a major blow to their HD and SD DBS Forecast (National Local on the 8s) and possibly their Intellistar 2 and 2jr systems. This means they will be forced to use their MAX ecosystem or Viz Multi Channel for the National Local Forecast systems. We do know the Intellistar 2 uses the Viz Render Engine, so it may be as simple as sending new radar data from the Max system for it's radar segments, but for the HD and SD DBS, they will be forced to build a new platform and possible redesigns.

Updated and more complete emulation. Still has many bugs but those will slowly be phased out. Also I posted a familiar graphic for you TWC classic fans! All created with a mix of,

QGIS (projections, Borders)

LandSerf (Terrain)

Photoshop (All graphical elements, some terrain work, and map scenes)

After Effects (NTSC and Color correction)

VirtualDub (VHS Compositing)

Movie Maker (for flavor lineup)

Not as many people seem to be interested in the Artwork section? How do the graphics look? What improvements could I make? I know what I need to do but what do you guys see?

If you're trying to make it look real, then allow me to point out all of the mistakes right here:

  • That flavor lineup never existed! During the era of the metro forecast starting with the LF, the radar/satellite product was divided up into six regions instead of four, whenever the regional forecast map was used on a 2:00 flavor
  • The SLF started with the Precipitation forecast/severe alerts product effective 7/1/2008
  • Four out of six regions during your regional forecast product use the 2010 icons
  • Your severe weather warnings maps use the 2003-2005 titlebars. not present during that era at all
  • The radar/satellite products did not use enhanced satellite imagery during this time. That experiment only lasted a week when the graphics changed in late May 2008
  • Your LOT8s corner bug. Firstly, TWC did not debut the LOT8s bug until late August 2008, much less with that font. Secondly, the bug was present during the entire duration of the product, and not just on screen for a few seconds.

I get that what you did was an emulation, but please use your own thread in the emulation videos section instead of posting in this thread, which is meant for discussion on the real thing. ;)

Haha, I know that. I was trying to make it look real but at the same give people the idea that it's an emulation. Unfortunately, I don't have any weather data so I had to place whatever sat image I had which in this case had colors. Yes I know this would go into TWC Art and emulations but I wanted to see if I could fool someone.

I posted an update to this in my Emulations topic but unfortunately I don't have that many resources yet so it mixes 2010 and 2008 icons.

Here are a few station ID mocks I created. This mimics the launch of the "Live by it" era! I'd say it turned out pretty well!

Here I have posted one. Tons more are on this site. I hope this is valuable to all you emulator graphic artists out there!
