General Discussion / TV Shows & Movies that Haven't/Won't Age Well
« on: April 04, 2013, 12:41:20 AM »
I wanted to make this topic because the subject is something I've been thinking about quite a bit lately. "Not aging well" can take on various meanings, like jokes not being understood by modern audiences, situations totally irrelevant to modern society, or the source material simply not being taken seriously anymore. I think there are even more examples you people can think of. So basically, as the title says, what hasn't aged well, and what modern works do you think won't age well?

One example I can think of is shows or movies that are over-reliant on pop culture references or topical humor. Granted, there are some exceptions, like the Simpsons, SNL, etc. But I don't think audiences 10, or even 5, years from now will get "ermahgerd" jokes, like the one that was made in an episode of 2 Broke Girls.

You may not agree with me, but I'm just wondering what people here think.

TWC Fan Art / Pavel's Art
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:28:22 PM »
After who knows how long, I finally finished my LDL concept. I designed it to look like the IS2's LDL, and it was made in Keynote. I tried my best to replicate the colors of the LDL, and the colors and weights of the text. But maybe I got something wrong. If so, feel free to correct me.

The weather data is fake.

I'm taking requests for it! I can put in weather conditions for you area, or you can ask for fake conditions. 100º with snow? Go right ahead. Heavy rain but 0% humidity? Knock yourself out. :P

Everything but the TWC logo and the icon was made from scratch. The logo is from the TWC article on Wikipedia, and the icon was on TWC's xoap server, prior to its going offline.

Don't expect anything but LDL stuff for now, because I'm too lazy I'm trying to figure out the layout of whatever else I'm making.

General Discussion / Favorite News Graphics/Music
« on: June 07, 2012, 12:44:45 PM »
I'm just interested. What are your favorite graphics/music packages for a newscast? It can be for any one at a local or national, or international level, past or present. Or maybe you just like the set.

I may be biased when saying this, but I love the ones Univision uses for its local and national newscast, especially the latter. And I really like the package used for my local NBC station (I think it's used on other O&Os as well). My personal favorite opener would be the one for The Situation Room.

General Discussion / Weird/Silly Dreams
« on: February 29, 2012, 05:07:16 PM »
Everyone's had at least one. Why not share them? I was inspired to create this thread by the existing weather dreams one.

Just a few days ago, I had one that's not *that* weird, but more like silly. In it, Jim Cantore was cutting my hair. I remember noticing that nothing changed about my hair, and I later regretted not taking a picture with Jim. :P

Not surprisingly, I've had a few dreams a few years ago in which I went to school in my underwear. It always felt awkward trying to hide it.

Turns out, Stephen Arnold is still making music!

One of his latest works is the music for CNN's Erin Burnett OutFront. I like it. :)

Programming and Graphics / Best Graphics of 2011
« on: September 29, 2011, 01:09:25 AM »
Now that 2011 is not far from its close and I couldn't wait much long to make this thread, I thought it would be a good idea to ask: what were the best graphics unbanked so far this year? My personal favorite would be the SD sat LF, followed by the WV graphics package.

If there are more released later in the year, I'll add them.

Everything Else TWC / TWC Social
« on: August 11, 2011, 06:18:58 PM »
TWC and Twitter have teamed up to deliver tweets abou the weather in real time to TWC itself, weather.com, and the mobile app. http://blog.twitter.com/2011/08/weather-so-hot-right-now.html?m=1

Thoughts on this?

OCMs & Personalities / Mark Thibodeau
« on: July 13, 2011, 10:09:32 PM »
Earlier today, I saw Mark at the DMC talking about weather.com. Is this the first he's been on-air? He's listed as a radio meteorologist, and if you recall, I posted a screenshot of him doing a video forecast for the website last month.

EDIT: Whoops, I didn't originally notice that there was already a topic for him, but it hasn't been posted in for over two years.

Everything Else TWC / What would you do to improve TWC?
« on: January 07, 2011, 11:18:51 PM »
This was an old thread I saw at TWCC. If you could, what would you do to improve TWC? Just think of some things. It doesn't have to be realistic.

To improve TWC, I would:
Bring back Alexandra Steele and the other OCMs that got laid off in recent years (if they want to come back).
Update the IS and sat LFs so they'll look more in line with TWC's graphics.
Discontinue vocal music on WUWA and elsewhere. :club:
Make shorter-running, better playlists with more songs and fewer repeats. And bring back the good songs from previous years.
Sell TWC back to Landmark.
On the 30th anniversary next year, cycle through the other two TWC logos and "update" the IS & IS2 with the logos, and, if possible, bring back old graphics or segments.
Discontinue the longform (except SS and an occasional documentary).
Bring back EE.
Do something about the waste of space on TWC HD.
Make more weather coverage programs for better variety.

And last but not least…

Have TWC do my laundry or someone else's. :P
