IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: IntelliStar 2 specifications?

Cannot tell you who I am except that I was part of both projects and still am at TWC.  We also posted pics a while back of the I2HD hardware in the racks of our test lab to whet your appetite.  I just thought I would answer the question given there isn't much out there on I2HD currently and you all were curious.  That means you have to make your own decision as to whether this information is accurate or not.  I've answered your question (mostly.. tho I didn't go over the internals like cpu/memory) and that is enough for me.  Eric S can probably confirm some of these details if you have that kind of relationship with him.

We're obviously proud of what we've accomplished - it was very hard work.

I second that!!! It was and still is very hard work!!! What a feat of ingenuity and effort with obstacles and hurdles nobody can imagine!

First time I have seen smoke on the CC of an IS2

Interesting. Did you get a video of or screenshot of it on the IS1, too?

There is a tornado and volcanic ash CC too. Cool huh?

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Who here gets TWC HD?

I have had TWC HD now for about 2 years.. Two months ago we had got the new intellistar HD for the HD channel :)

One of the lucky few I see. Good, glad you have a forward thinking cable head end in your area!

As far as talking to customer support, like others have said, you ultimately need to talk with someone who knows the technology. Some customer support person will have no clue what you're talking about. Customer service just about anywhere is pretty lame, sad to say. Honestly, I don't know who you should talk to at one of these companies. Probably the head honcho at that particular head end. Find out who that is and write them a letter. Letters always seem to get some response at least. I'd start there. If they get enough inquiries they'll realize people are tired of not getting a true local forecasts any longer and update their equipment. Satellite folks in particular feel this pain. It's maddening, isn't it? I'm an employee and my satellite/cable head end has not invested either. So, I get to watch all the national places scroll by ... and nothing local. I have to just get it on my phone if I want a true local forecast, or, use the widget I have on DirectTV. Lame. So I wait at home ... along with most of you guys too.  I feel your pain.  :whistling:

Has anyone observed the beach screen yet live on an IS2?

Hi Martin,

We're particularly proud of that one. The design alone took forever and the programming on it to make the data flow correctly was a nightmare! But it works and I love seeing it in action!!! Too bad I'm not in a coastal area.

Also the Marine forecast screen is pretty cool too. Has anyone seen that one yet?

i would of thought Boston was a beta city, they've had TWC HD since it's launch in 2007.

(Boston transitioned in December 2006)

TWC HD launched in 2007 but the i2 HD did not launch then. It didn't officially launch until 2010. And, only those cable and/or satellite companies who bought the i2 HD box launched it. So if you have HD in your area and still see the same old graphics you've been seeing for like ... forever now. Call your cable/satellite provider and ask them to upgrade and buy the new box. Only then will you see the new intellistar2 HD graphics. We can only build the product ... doesn't mean everyone purchases it, unfortunately.

Okay, thanks.  I'll let the posts stand for the others to read and take it how they want.

I also worked on this team and I speak for Anon ... it was an incredible effort and took quite a while and was (and still is) a great accomplishment! We have the t-shirts to prove it

It depends on your satellite or cable company as to whether or not they have purchased a new Intellistar2 HD box. If they haven't then you will continue to get the same old boring graphics. Call your cable and/or satellite provider and tell them to get on the ball and buy one! The graphics are beautiful on the new istar2 HD too.
