The Game Room / Re: "In my pants" Game

Wow.. it had been a long while since someone messaged here in my pants

The simulations like Charles made were done in programs such as Adobe After Effects—which I'll be honest, I haven't used since CS6 because of the subscription model the current version uses. If you need a cheaper option, I think it may be possible to put something of the sort together in a program like DaVinci Resolve (free, or if you have a paid program like Final Cut, that works too) using layered images and text, but I've never personally tried that route.

Side note.. I know at one point that that style was part of a larger planned update for the WS4000 Simulator back in like 2015 or so.. but I do wonder if or when that will happen  If it does end up happening, that would definitely make things a lot easier.

Fantastic job, especially on that Hurricane Delta graphic! That header is pretty true to the real thing

Definitely going to be worth it to update and bring some fresh air into the place! Can't wait to see the finished results

A lot of the older ones that might not be available here may still be on authorSTREAM, so you might check over there. I know for a fact there was an IntelliStar 1 one over there for the longest time

Programming and Graphics / Re: TWC New Graphics

i actually remember a few months ago they sent out an email survey asking about the types of maps and fonts did you like.. it looks like they took that feedback for this update
Interestingly, it seems like they've been working on this package since January according to a tweet from one of the meteorologists (https://twitter.com/jamessinko/status/1163786711819853826?s=21). At the time, I thought it would just be the maps getting changed—boy was I wrong! Either those surveyed mainly picked the new stuff or TWC is using that survey as a justification for the change regardless of the result (remember the LOT8s cuts, how they didn't care about people's opinions on the matter).

To be fair, I think the new graphics are fine—and a refresh was needed—but they strangely appear really rushed and have plenty of things that need to be fixed.

Here's a new one: marine forecast, tides, and satellite products all make their debut in my emulator series at once with an incoming hurricane! This is from Hurricane Lane two weeks ago. Hope all of you enjoy!

I've been working a lot on getting the IntelliStar v2 completed for a while, but technical issues near the start of the summer really pushed it back. I'm happy to announce that I've completed it! Please go check it out and leave any feedback/suggestions you might have.

Here's some clarification direct from TWC, as a reply to a tweet I sent them asking about the new update:

LO8s are not exactly being removed, just reimagined.  The same information you know and love will still be available!  Thank you for the feedback!

This isn't a good idea for those of us with letterboxed HD feeds on SD. It's really difficult to read the LDL already, and now there won't be full-screen forecasts anymore? Seems like they neglected the fact that many cable companies have chosen to go down that path- even stranger is the fact that my cable headend had the i2jr for SD but switched to the xD only a week later, so I've barely tuned into TWC since. Unless tomorrow's results are surprisingly good, I won't be on board with this.

Here's my latest IntelliStar emulation, finished and uploaded last night. The forecast is for January 16, when the second major snow event of the 2017-2018 winter season hit the South.

Where did that date come from? I'm sure that definitely won't happen, but I'm also curious to know why you think it could happen on that specific day.

Also, Jonathon is right about what killed Weatherscan- it definitely wasn't Local Now. On a separate note, I'm still confused why Xfinity has yet to allow its subscribers to sign in with their accounts to use Local Now even after they pulled Weatherscan. I honestly don't see a point in not allowing that to happen already. Even though I haven't used it much since I started my trial, I would still at least want it as an option.

Weatherscan was officially retired at 7:57 am CT this morning here. After nearly 6-7 years of getting the channel, an era has come to an end.

Original post: I will be trying my best to keep my stream of Weatherscan up until the retirement day on December 5th. If you're interested in seeing the unit retired live on air as it happens (if you don't have Weatherscan being retired that day), stay tuned! I will also have the archive footage afterward.
