Hurricane Central / Major Hurricane Michael Upgraded
« on: April 19, 2019, 07:26:26 PM »
Michael was upgraded from a Category Four to a Category Five hurricane today by the NHC post analysis. The last category five hurricane to strike the US was Andrew back in August 1992.

Historical records Michael broke....
-Latest Category 5 hurricane to hit the US.
-4th strongest hurricane to hit the US, trailing only behind the Labor Day 1935 hurricane, Camille (1969), and Andrew (1992).
-3rd hurricane to hit Florida as a Category Five.

OCMs & Personalities / Eboni Deon
« on: January 01, 2019, 02:48:49 AM »
Eboni Deon who left TWC back in 2008 to go work at WFTV in Orlando, FL has made her debut on Atlanta's local ABC affiliate WSB-TV this past Saturday (Dec. 29th). She'll be working the weekend morning shift. She's likely taking over for current weekend morning met Brian Monahan who will likely be moved to weekday mornings to replace retiring Karen Minton next month.

Hurricane Central / The Ressurection of Harvey
« on: August 24, 2017, 08:14:35 AM »
Folks, we could be dealing with what could potentially be the worst flooding disaster to strike TX since TS Allison back 16 years ago in 2001. Harvey is expected to make landfall in TX by this weekend and possibly stall over the Lonestar State for several days.

Global/hurricane models are also suggesting Harvey could *potentially* become a significant, perhaps major (cat 3 or higher) hurricane as it approaches the TX coast this weekend which if it makes major status would make it the first to strike the US in 12 years (Wilma, October 2005).

If you live or know people living in Brownsville, Galveston, Corpus Christi, to Houston or even as far inland as San Antonio or Dallas, you need to take this storm seriously and prepare to take action for what could be historic flooding.

What a wild day and a hellish commute for drivers who rely on I-85 to get to and from work. All of the local news stations here in Atlanta are covering this non-stop. I-85 could be closed here for weeks if not months which would have a major ripple effect across the Southeast region. It couldn't come at a worse time since were in Spring Break season for a lot of kids/families.

This was the fire at it's peak... (Picture provided from WAGA-TV/FOX 5 Atlanta)

General Discussion / High Speed Internet Question
« on: March 04, 2017, 04:19:32 PM »
So, after being with crappy DSL where I am, I'm finally planning to switch over Comcast/Xfinity for high speed internet either later this month or next month. I initially wanted to go with Google Fiber, but I think the construction process w/ the fiber optic lines in the Atlanta area are on hiatus the last time I heard.

Anyway, I'm leaning towards getting 100 Mbp for $50 for 3 yrs. I was wondering for anyone who has Xfinity as their internet provider and has similar speeds, is this actually fast enough to handle multiple devices simultaneously? Xfinity claims that's fast enough to handle 6-8 devices. The following below are all the devices that I'll be using.

-PC
-Amazon TV Fire Stick (Once I buy one)
-Nintendo Switch (Once I buy one)
-Nintendo Wii U
-Nintendo 3DS XL
-Playstation 4

Local Forecast / "December Snow" by Dover
« on: December 15, 2016, 08:28:20 PM »
Is this song known by any other name other than this? I remember hearing this song in I think a WS3000 video from years ago and I recently searched to try to find it, but I'm assuming it has a different name/artist or it's just not available.

This is a random topic I know, but it's also an uneventful Sunday and this weekend has got me thinking how I've been fortunate enough to see a lot of familiar faces from TWC just randomly pop on local ABC, FOX, NBC, and CBS stations over the past 8 years or so.

Take this weekend for example, I've seen Alexandra Steele, Rich Johnson, Heather Tesch, and Samantha Mohr who ironically works weekend evenings at the same station that Heather was filling in on this morning!

Gee, I wonder who else I could see pop up soon... *cough* *cough* Vivian Brown *cough* *cough* :P

These re all the former OCMs I've seen pop up or even end up working at one of our local news stations over the past several years.

Dave Schwartz (2009; CBS affiliate)
Alexandra Steele (2016; CBS affiliate)
Cheryl Lemke (2010-2011; NBC affiliate)
Julie Martin (2014-2015; NBC affiliate)
Heather Tesch (2016; NBC affiliate)
Samantha Mohr (2012-2013; 2015-present NBC affiliate)
Rich Johnson (2016; FOX affiliate)
Kelly Cass? (I think I remember seeing her fill in on our FOX affiliate, not 100% sure)
Jeff Morrow? (Same situation as Kelly Cass, not 100% sure going off of memory)
Jennifer Lopez (Summer of 2014; ABC affiliate)

Hurricane Central / Major Hurricane Matthew
« on: September 30, 2016, 01:40:45 PM »
Surprised this hasn't gotten much attention, but Matthew is currently going through RI (Rapid Intensification). Just 24 hours ago Matthew was a tropical storm, now it's a Category 3 hurricane! :o

Matthew is expected to make a turn NNW towards Jamaica by possibly Monday and make landfall across Eastern Cuba by midweek next week. Beyond that remains some uncertainty, the most likely scenario at the moment is OTS (out to sea), however it's still possible Matthew could be a threat to the East Coast. Everyone living from Florida to Maine should keep a watchful eye out for Matthew next week.

Emulator Videos / toxictwister00's Legacy STAR Emulations
« on: June 06, 2016, 05:04:49 PM »
Since my other thread is nearly 2 years old, I decided to start a new one dedicated to legacy STAR emulations that I create. From the WeatherSTAR3000 (1980s) to the IntelliSTAR v1.5 (2005-2007)

To start off, here's an emulation of the WeatherSTAR XL v1 created in After Effects. I even took some time to re-create the Daytime Local Forecast Intro (1999-2001) as well. It's not completed, I still have to work on completing the isobar animations in the background.

Legacy STAR: XL version 1 (1999-2001)
Location: Tampa, FL
Weather Conditions: Tropical Storm Colin/Outer Rainbands/Rain Squalls

Hurricane Central / Hurricane Central 2016
« on: June 02, 2016, 12:08:53 PM »
This year's Atlantic Hurricane Season ramped into full gear officially yesterday, but you could argue it's been in full gear since the record and historic early start in January. That's the same month we had the first named storm (Alex) to eventually become the first hurricane of the season.

Of course we just had Tropical Storm Bonnie (which the NHC has re-activated updates on again as of 11am ET this morning) impact the Carolinas over the Memorial Day holiday weekend and this week.

Fortunately (and unfortunately depending on how you look at it), we may have "Colin" by this time next week impacting Florida (specifically north/central FL). The global models (GFS, Euro, Canadian) for several days have strongly hinted at this possibility.

00z European Model - Impacts FL, goes wide right/east out to sea

6z (12z not completed yet) American GFS Model - Hits Central FL, goes northeast out to sea

00z Canadian Model - Solid C. FL hit, brushes the GA/Carolinas coast afterwards)
