Everything Else Classic TWC / Dan Chandler: 1938-2023
« on: March 10, 2023, 08:09:59 PM »
I do not know if this has already been mentioned elsewhere, but I've learned from Techknight on Twitter, as well as on Taiganet forums (were the WeatherStar 4000 Simulator is from), and on Discord, that legendary former TWC voice-over announcer, Dan Chandler (also known as Dan Huth) has passed away last month. He was 84. Prior to working as an announcer on The Weather Channel, he was also appeared on local Miami radio in the 1960s and even appeared on television shows like the Everglades! (1961-62) as well as on Flipper (1964-67) (a classic TV show that I used to enjoy when I was young back when it used to be re-runed on Nickelodeon in the early 1990s) where he played as "Warden Dennis". At first, I had no idea he was once on a couple of TV shows in the 1960s before he was an announcer on TWC, but I learned about it many years later here in the TWC fan community. He also once worked as a local morning show host on WSB-TV's Good Day Atlanta morning show in the early 1980s.

As we previously know, he also had appeared in a 1981 Chevrolet El Camino promotional dealership video as well as in a train documentary called Railroads of North America in 1994 while he was also on The Weather Channel. In addition to TWC, he also did narrations on various programs on the History Channel and HGTV as well. After when Taiganet first contacted him back in the spring of 2010, Dan Chandler was even nice enough to reach out a year later to do re-recordings of his own narration for the WeatherStar 4000 Simulator. The re-recorded narrations still sounded as beautiful as the originals from the original TWC broadcast and even to this very day, I still give Dan a lot of credit.

Without Dan Chandler, The Weather Channel would have never been iconic without a talented voice-over announcer with a beautiful voice like Dan's. My hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and everyone here in the TWC fan community.

I'll never forget this really nice thank you message that Dan shared back in 2012:
Quote
You know so well, when you and the team embarked on this project that there was nothing in it for you beyond the personal satisfaction of a demanding job meticulously and well-done.  To get "attaboys" is icing on the cake.

Thank you all for including me in your labor of love, and--[Bill Goodwill, simulator developer]--for sharing the incredible reactions. They go far beyond anything I could have expected.

Everything Else Classic TWC / The Weather Channel from 1984
« on: October 19, 2015, 10:17:52 PM »
I found several clips of The Weather Channel that was taken from April 12-September 9, 1984. Unfortunately, most of the Local Forecasts were edited out as well as a few other segments. The videos originally came from MeadeLX50 on YouTube.

Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaT17fgmJy8

Look what I found: a classic episode of Atmospheres! Video courtesy of: vortexva.

This episode that aired around 2000 features then-TWC personality Warren Madden who was also then a hurricane hunter (which I never knew he used to be a hurricane hunter). Anyways, enjoy the clip.

TWC and your Cable Company / Dish to drop TWC (again)?
« on: April 08, 2015, 06:01:17 PM »
I'm not sure if this was already mentioned, but I came across this recent article from MDJ Online that mentions a possible retransmission dispute between Dish and The Weather Channel. Of course, Dish already had a previous dispute with TWC back in May 2010 that lasted only four days. But I wonder if this next possible dispute will last longer? The Verizon FiOS dispute is already almost a month old already.

Of course, this was already mentioned about rumors of WeatherNation that may be coming to Dish:

« on: July 06, 2014, 04:57:34 PM »
I don't know if this had been posted before, but I've finally found the full video footage of The Weather Channel's 20th Anniversary special on YouTube. I've been looking for this video for years and this originally came from YouTube user Local Forecast. I remembered watching this special back when it first aired in 2002. Anyways, enjoy.

Everything Else TWC / Some funny website I found...
« on: April 11, 2014, 09:37:28 PM »
I came across a website called "WTF Weather Channel" which pokes fun at Weather.com's headlines whenever when they talk about something that's not weather-related.

Really funny stuff!  :rofl2: DirecTV still should of made a second thought of bringing back TWC.

Everything Else Classic TWC / Dan Chandler outside of TWC
« on: October 11, 2011, 06:25:05 PM »
You won't beleve this, but I found Dan Chandler (with his face shown) doing an educational special on trains. He hosts this made-for-video presientation from 1994 called Railroads of North America.
Railroads of North America

I'm not sure whether or not if this was his only non-TWC voice-over spots or not. I think he should come back to TWC!

Contributions / Some photos I've found
« on: August 03, 2011, 10:35:25 PM »
I came across this website thats mostly about DXing over-the-air television signals and found this interesting section that features a collection of TWC and TWN local forecast pictures. Some of these photos are however messed up or just shot in front of the TV screen and were captured between 1993-2009.

Anyways, these are not my photos, but I hope you'll still enjoy these pictures.

TCA: Weather Channel Greenlights 'Coast Guard Alaska'
Produced by Al Roker Entertainment; will premiere Nov. 9
By Tim Baysinger -- Broadcasting & Cable, 7/27/2011 2:46:43 PM

The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) announced Wednesday that it has greenlit the new series Coast Guard Alaska (wt).

Produced by Al Roker Entertainment, the series will follow a team of coast guard swimmers who are stationed in Kodiak, Alaska.

"Coast Guard Alaska has all the elements we're looking for in original programming - great storytelling, action and adventure, and most importantly, how the weather affects someone's work and lifestyle," said Bob Walker, EVP/GM, networks and content, The Weather Channel. "This series fits in perfectly with the strategy we've developed for The Weather Channel's long-form content across all platforms."

Roker commented: "We just celebrated the second year of Wake Up with Al on The Weather Channel, so this was my anniversary gift to the network. In all seriousness, Coast Guard Alaska is a compelling series and one we feel will captivate The Weather Channel audience."

Coast Guard Alaska is expected to premiere Wednesday, November 9, at 9 p.m.

Seriously, what does this have to do with weather? I hate to bother, but it looks like Al Roker is starting to produce his own production shows. What's your reaction?

The WeatherSTAR 4000 Emulator website (http://www.taiganet.com/) has been down over the last couple of weeks now. Is it me or has anyone else affected too?

Local Forecast / Stock footage used in Local Forecast intro? (1991-95)
« on: September 26, 2010, 12:38:17 AM »
While I was looking at some old videos from a website called Dailymotion, I came across an old CNN station ID clip from 1987. If you notice the mountain background, it kind of looks like the one that was used in the LF intro that TWC used from 1991-95.

See video here:

So I wonder, did TWC used recycled stock footage that was also used on CNN?
