OCMs & Personalities / Mark Mancuso on Accuweather TV
« on: February 26, 2021, 09:56:43 PM »
Found Mark Mancuso, former TWC OCM, on Accuweather's TV channel yesterday.  Haven't seen him in many years, and instantly recognized his face and voice....

I remember that intro, but with different music, from the "For Everything You Do" era.

Local Forecast / Re: IntelliSTAR units to be retired this October...???
« on: August 05, 2015, 08:52:00 PM »
I can't believe it!

As of yesterday, my cable company FINALLY upgraded to the IS2 (or Jr).... No more Alan Jackson narration.   And we have TWC in HD!
My cable company is very small, only serving 4 towns in rural Vermont.  They aren't known for upgrading Weatherstar units quickly.  We had the 3000 up until the late 1990s, then went to the IS.  So there MUST be some truth to the retiring of IS units this fall if this happened.

Of course today the local forecast (and LDL) is out and are just getting the national feed.

*   2-minute flavors
*   Latest Observations (perhaps 1 screen with 6 locations) and/or current conditions map
*   Almanac (Weatherscan style - with moon phases, hi/lo records, and sunrise/sunset
*   Satellite
*   xL or IS-style topo maps
*   smooth jazz
*   better layouts/graphics (like the IS)
*   J bar layout for LOT8s during long-form

Local Forecast / Re: Satellite LF Sightings
« on: April 18, 2012, 12:40:04 PM »
At 3:28pm EDT on April 17, I observed this:

Looks like a full screen satellite LF but my head-end for some reason cued up an L bar forecast.  But it gets stranger, as seen in this video:

https://picasaweb.google.com/108118189767835080687/DropBox#5732779342011796226

At :28, the satellite forecast compresses into the "viewing area" and an L bar satellite forecast appears and continues briefly into the intro to the 3:30 episode of Storm Riders.

Haven't posted here in a LONG time, but last night, the satellite forecast was playing, but with the local LDL.   It looked almost natural...

Here's a couple shots:

Gotcha - didn't realize they changed the satellite LF.  Wasn't the one in my video the HD version not too long ago?

Here's a video back from June 22 showing the satellite forecast at 4:28PM,  a little bit of the national LDL during regular programming, then the return of the regular local forecast at 4:38PM.

(I missed the start of the 4:28 forecast so it actually comes in closer to 4:28)

General Emulator Discussion / Cities On The Radar
« on: January 30, 2009, 09:30:17 PM »
My two radar screens show some weird city locations.  I've attached screenshots of my radar screens - first one is zoomed into Vermont and northern NY, the second is the east coast zoomed out.  For the Vermont/NNY one, it seems as if its selecting cities in alphabetical order and some of those are obscure locations.  The zoomed out Northeast radar has a mix between obvious cities (Rochester, Pittsburg, Detroit, Boston) and the obscure (Amagansett - which appears to be in the middle of Long Island Sound, and Abbot Village, ME.

Anyone else get this same thing?  Where are they getting these obscure locations from?

Okay, was able to download the new setup file, installed it, and got my new key.  Then I realized I had to do the "unregister 1-2-3-OK" command, now when I go to run the emulator, it requests a key.  I click GET MY KEY, and it says a key was already assigned to me.  I copy the key, then enter it on the next screen, and it says my key is not valid.  Did I unregister my key?

« on: January 08, 2009, 07:06:04 PM »
"Miss my Cabana" by Jay Soto @ :58. That one is retitled as "butterfly".

The arrangement/effects of this version of Miss My Cabana is ever so slightly different than the one from '08, possibly explaining the renaming.  There's a lot less "island" effect in this one.  Listen to the two side by side.

Emulator Videos / shadyjay's emulator vids
« on: December 10, 2008, 11:50:52 AM »
What a crazy weather week its been here in Vermont, and you can follow it all on my youtube page... www.youtube.com/shadyjayvt

I just put up a couple 4000 emulator vids... one from Sunday 12/7/08 and one from today, Wed 12/10/08.  The 12/10 vid shows quite the temperature contrast on the "latest observations" screen.

Be advised, these vids were shot with my digital camera propped up looking at the monitor, with music added later.  So the alignment isn't perfect, but its there.

Enjoy!
