OCMs & Personalities / Re: Kelley Williamson

He was on air at TWC not to long ago.
This is sad.  I even remember a playing of one of the episodes where he and his driver stopped at a convenience store where they made fresh fried chicken.  It kind of made me think about how cool traveling like that really is.  It's a shame that he's gone.

"I'm dyslexic tonight!"   I actually used that phrase  :rofl2:
It's a shame they aren't together and Dave is gone.   This was a hilarious moment that they handled pretty well.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Dave Schwartz Battling Cancer
« on: July 31, 2016, 12:53:56 PM »
Dave really knew how to communicate with people on-air.  It's not like the banter/babble of today.  The man had substance and he was genuine.  He was one of the few that really stood out to me on TWC over the years.  I was so excited to seem him back on the network.

The article said that he worked with the network for 22 years.  He actually started at TWC in 1991.  There was the few year break in there during the "Sad Time" when people were being let go left and right.

He'll make it.

He beat pancreatic cancer.....TWICE!  That cancer has a very low, among the lowest survival rates of all cancers.

He will beat this.

I have always enjoyed his on-air presence - it goes back to about 1991, if I remember correctly.

I didn't have the chance to get to know him on here or at taiganet.com. :(

It's shocking to find out about this - he was only 24.  He even lost his father in 2008 and he was only 54.

I am saying a prayer for the family, and for strength to his mother in this time. :(

Hurricane Central / Cent. Pacific Hurricane Oho
« on: October 08, 2015, 06:26:38 PM »
It's now post-tropical, but I think this is the EIGHTH named storm for the Central Pacific this season - the normal is like, 4 tops.

I have never seen a forecast track like this one.......and it's just as the leftovers of Joaquin are about to visit the Portuguese coast.

But if he's at all serious about this that would be awesome!! Jazz has been gone so long for me I forget the excitement that I had with the channel. I remember back in 7th grade I would constantly check weather.com/music for the new playlist. But since about 2013 I migrated away from jazz and with the vocals on TWC and going to a new high school everything I listen to mostly is adult alternative with the only instrumentals being Ryan Farish (hence explains the vocal test playlists I put out and my spotify playlists being pretty much all vocals since early 2014).

And I feel this is really disappointing that something great and something that made my childhood years fun had to end!  :furious: :censored: Now with the vocals hitting at a time where High School was just starting and the stress associated with it and the stupidity of immature kids and drama, God talk about a bad time to take away something I could have used to level it out.

I'm also angry because if TWC goes back to jazz, I will be really excited but those songs that they played years ago don't sound that great anymore  :cry3:  I would have to regain interest but I think that's the right way to go but overall I'm upset that I reached a point where I really could care less. Maybe 2015 will be the lucky year.

Also I am still surprised that I didn't know Jazz was gone until May 2012! I watched TWC almost daily during that time?

I adopted instrumental music as my music of choice in 1991, when i started watching TWC. I certainly didnt lose interest when TWC went to crap with the NBC takeover and the vocals on the LF's. If anything i love instrumental/jazz/new age more than ever, as this music has helped solidify my identity while at the same time losing interest in TWC altogether. I am thankful for 29 years of good LF music that TWC has played, and maybe, just maybe if all these changes pan out I might be a fan again.
If TWC returns jazz/instrumentals then I'll probably subscribe to Time Warner Cable at this point and start recording again. I don't even give a damn if the locals are 2 mins long. I think 1 min locals are fine the way they are.
That's what I did - I still have some of the recordings from the early 1990s when I was in high school.  That was before playlists were even out.  I remember finding the Rippingtons and then posting about it to a newsgroup on AOL (that goes way back guys) and got flamed for providing information - I guess it would be called "trolling" today.

They do have newer music out there.  TWC would bring the genre back to where it was.  If it plays on TWC, it gets good recognition.

That email would not have been enough to warrant cancelling a show.
I knew with Vivian's departure that it was financial.

In the beginning, you will probably be seeing a lot of the lower paid employees on camera.

If they're focusing on WEATHER now, I don't know why everyone is so concerned about what's going to happen to LOT8s?

Considering that I have rarely seen it on the Eights and almost never during "weathertainment", ANY consistency with the Local Forecast would be an improvement.

I can't remember HOW many times in the past year alone, I get ready for a run and need to check a radar to see if it is going to rain while I run.  I wait for 15-20 minutes on TWC and NOTHING comes up.  I have to go upstairs to a computer to the NWS website or even The WeatherSTAR simulator to get a radar.

The "LDL" was so minimal for information, it wouldn't help!

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Vivian Brown DONE at TWC
« on: September 10, 2015, 07:37:26 PM »
Sadly, any OCM who's professional, speaks clearly and with a professional voice and carries him/her self with class is falling by the wayside.
I can't stand the direction they've been going the last few years with women who are silly and yell like Kait Parker and Jennifer Delgado, who acts trampy.
I miss the good old days with professional men and women and not all the bimbos. That's why we watch Weather Nation 90% of the time.
Keith Carson is quickly joining them in the male category.  The guy is off his rocker.

Maybe they'll return "Your Weather Today with Abrams and Bettes"?   :thrilled:

I don't think they're gonna move Mike Bettes off a show he hosts and is the poster boy for (see the LF background) less than 6 months after launching it. The more likely scenario is Abrams joining Bettes on WUTV. A change that I would not mind at all.
When I saw her do her live feed from an apartment? during WUTV, I was kind of creeped out, but was glad to see the two of them working together.

I think the layoffs already started with Vivian Brown - I would suspect now that the move was DEFINITELY cost-cutting, horrific that it happened to her so close to retirement (this is why we have 401Ks, folks - you can get shafted by your company even after decades).  It was all about output and what is produced.  That's why Jim Cantore is still working at his salary - he is more versatile.

I can't stand Sam Champion - he's too over the top.  The Big Kahunas couldn't make the show work even with Jim moved to help out.   Too much competition with the regular networks.

I have been watching TWC for almost 27 years.  Hopefully, it will be trending back to before this recent monstrosity.

And yes, I would love to see the kindergarten Windows8 icons removed, but if they are cost-cutting, they will probably limit that kind of change in the short term.
