TWC Today News / Re: Martin's passing and the future of TWC Today
« on: October 31, 2015, 04:42:28 PM »
I am so very sorry to hear of Martin's passing. I'm in a state of utter shock and disbelief right now. If there's anything I can do to help keep the site up and running, please let me know. I'm willing to help in any way I can.

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

On a different note, in reference to the earlier posts about The Splat, I STILL cannot figure out what it is. I've seen ten different reports, and ten different opinions as to whether its a channel or a programming block.  :dunno:

I'm in the same boat! Both E! and MTV say Channel and Variety and Entertainment Weekly say Programming Block, i hope The Splat posts an update soon to clarify.

I really hope it's a 24/7 Channel dedicated to the 90s.

I'm bound to believe its a channel if MTV says so, since they are owned by Viacom, like Nickelodeon. I'd think they'd know better than anyone else.

These posts bring up another good point Curt. Our lives have changed greatly since these forums started. Most of us were probably teenagers or thereabouts when when we started hanging out on TWCC and TWCT. Now we're in our 20's and 30's, with jobs and families and the like. Most of us just are not in the same places in our lives that we once were.

I think everyone will enjoy! https://www.facebook.com/thesplat/videos/759384737518263/

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what that is. Is it a new TV channel? If so, that's going to be awesome. I hope they include some of the old game shows and live action shows too, and not just the cartoons.

I remember the Front Porch was teeming with activities summers ago when I was in High School. :( Either way, only 11 more days until the Pot Belly Stove opens, if anyone even cares lol :P
I know what you're talking about. This forum has gone down the tube... nothing like it once used to be. This place is so dead, I can hear the crickets echoing :bleh:

Curt, maybe the reason this forum has gone down the tube has something to do with how TWC itself has gone down the tube lol. Don't get me wrong, I still check in here every now and then, but I mainly browse the classic TWC forums. I have 0 interest in TWC as it is today. Now...if they move TWC back in the right direction (and canning AMHQ and WUWA was a great start), then maybe TWC will become watchable again. We'll have to see what happens.

Local Forecast / Thomas Cain
« on: April 11, 2015, 11:03:55 AM »
I'm not sure if we all knew this or not, but for anyone interested I have found Thomas Cain's "Winter" available for download from Amazon for just 99 cents:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004IUCIYE/ref=sr_1_10_rd?ie=UTF8&child=B004ITZD4M&qid=1428763220&sr=1-10%3C/a%3E

It is song #5 on the album. This song was used in 1999. It should sound very familiar.  B)

any updates on these obscure artists from 1988-99?

Wish I could tell you yes, but unfortunately I've got nothing at this point.

That doesn't mean I've given up though. I'm still determined to fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle.

Hi everyone! You've been waiting for it, and here it is! Attached is Poco Bahia, as well as another song that Jeff sent called Bubba's Bounce. I do not recognize that song, but thought I'd post it here so that Chuck, Matt, and our other resident experts could confirm for sure that it was not used. I just got these today, so on behalf of Jeff I apologize for the delay. Merry Christmas!!

Weatherscan Discussion / Jack Mascari
« on: November 14, 2013, 06:25:34 PM »
As you guys know, Jack Mascari is the composer behind some of the non-Trammell WeatherScan songs. I e-mailed him about a month ago to ask some questions, and woke up to a response from him on Tuesday morning. He told me that he is the composer of all of the non-Trammell songs on WxScan. He also told me that he has a CD coming out, as well as a website that will be opening soon. He didn't give exact dates on when either of those would happen, but I asked him to give me the details when he had them.

Just thought you guys might be interested in those little tidbits.

I know I haven't updated this thread in ages, but, well, there hasn't been any news to report. I hadn't heard from Jeff nor received the song from him. Until today that is. I got an e-mail from him saying that he hadn't forgotten to send the song, he's just been having computer problems. So with any luck hopefully we'll have our song soon. On a related note, I did not hear back from any of the Christopher Jones that I contacted, nor have I heard anything from Greg Piecuch. So I'm kinda figuring out what my next move is going to be. But I haven't given up by any means. I'm determined to get ahold of these last few obscure musicians, as well as to identify our ever dwindling list of unknown songs.  B)

Sandy was practically a direct hit here in Maryland. It got pretty bad at its peak. Dropped a couple feet of snow in the mountains too.

We don't know his name by any chance do we?
I don't. The only music programmer I know of was Steve Hurst.

I may be wrong, but in a previous forum, (before TWCC/TWCT merged) wasnt there mention of a programmer in the 90's by the name is Greg Piecuch, or something. Maybe he got sloppy with the reporting of the music in the late 90s, which also explains why there are many unknowns during that time frame. On the other note, I am finally glad that song by Jeff Stern was finally tracked down

As luck would have it I have found a Gregory Piecuch who is/was employed by TWC. I'm going to see if he's willing and/or able to give me any information about the music back then. Maybe I can get some information on those unknowns!  B)

I remember Sue Hurd of Ficara telling me that she was never paid for TWC's use of her music in the fall of 1996. I also heard a rumor that the guy selecting the music in the late 90s was let go b/c he wasn't reporting what was being used.

Wow, I never knew all that. Very interesting. Unfortunate that he didn't want to play by the rules, he made some really good selections. We don't know his name by any chance do we?

So, I received a response from Jeff late last night. He says the song in the clip IS his. HOWEVER, he said it was technically composed by his guitarist. He says the song is called Poco Bahia. He says that it was not included in his BMI material, he was not aware it had aired on TWC, and was never paid for its use. Very interesting stuff indeed. But he says he's going to send it to me when time allows.

I guess we we wrong AND right. It is his music, but its not one of the songs we thought it was.

Local Forecast / Christopher "C.F." Jones
« on: October 20, 2013, 10:33:32 PM »
So, while we wait for some clarification on Jeff Stern's music, I thought I'd share with you all some good news that pertains to C.F. Jones. You guys might recall that I mentioned that C.F., Jeff Stern, Dave Morgan, Steven Saltzman, and Richard Tyznik all had a common publisher amongst them. Well, I've found something else they seem to have in common. Richard, Jeff, Dave, and Steven are all located in California. So, my theory is that if I want to find C.F. I should start by looking for musicians named Christopher Jones in California. And as luck would have it, I've found several. So I'm going to contact them and see if I can get lucky again and nail him down. I'll keep you all posted on anything I find out.
