General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

I don't want to go through all that pain and hassle, not eating certain foods

A) They're not that painful. People blow that WAY out of proportion. Just a few sensitive teeth here and there.
B) What do you mean that hassle? They just glue brackets on your teeth, put the wire in, and snap the brackets closed.
C) Not eating certain foods? My dental assistant lady said you can eat just about anything with braces if you just be careful (and if it's something like chips or pretzels, break it up into smaller pieces.)

As Aaron stated, it still sticks to your braces, but not as bad as the other gum.

Nope. And when it does stick to your teeth, you've gotten something ON your braces. If you chew sugarfree gum (although I was told these brackets are somewhat different than brackets before), you WILL be okay. And why would the gum get near your braces anyway? It's not like you'd roll the gum all over your brackets! <_<

Here's the complete set with a few tweaks made to the regular user badges. All comments, compliments, or questions are appreciated! :)

Zach-- any particular reason why you have not chewed gum for 2 years?
Braces. :hmm:

You know you could chew sugarfree gum, right?
Any gum can get caught in braces and really make a mess. Braces were the main reason I've lost any desire for a lot of things... popcorn, gum, hard candy, etc.

Uhhhh...no. Sugarfree gum will *not* get caught in braces. At least not these. And that's what my dental assistant lady told me. As a wise cartoon plankton once said, "THEY WENT TO COLLEGE!" ;)

This is what I have so far. I've only made badges for regular users as of yet, but the badges for users with special titles will be very similar to the TWC titlebars (just much smaller! ;)). This is just the subtitlebar, chopped off from the titlebar. I had to make it dark because it wouldn't show up worth a crap if it were to use the exact colors of the subtitlebar. I'd appreciate comments...thanks!

That brings up another thing... I don't understand what "bots" are either and how they could possibly be setup. I keep hearing about them in the chat... and users mention that they've made them.

It's just a matter of you for yourself in most cases. Sorry, but my bot's code is, and always will be, closed-source. Just Google "mIRC script" and work at it.

Single-line. Double-line is quite cramped in the canvas IMO. :hmm:

General Discussion / Re: Introduce Yourself! (For New Members)

Hi there.

My name is Joey and I am a senior in high school in Augusta, GA. I have always been passionate about the weather, ever since I was about 10 years old and was caught in my first hail storm (luckily in the car).

After a year or two of city college for core classes, my plans are to go to the University of Georgia to double major in Broadcast Journalism and Mass Communications. It has always been my dream to either be a Meteorologist, News Anchor, or Radio DJ. I'd love to do all three sometime in my life if I ever get the chance.

Right now, I am interning at WRDW-TV in Augusta, GA for my senior project, where I have spent nearly 8 months learning all I can about the news business.

I also have my own blog at my local newspaper's website, AugustaChronicle.com, called "Licensed to Gill".

I am excited to be here at TWCToday. I have watched TWC for years, and I am pleased to meet other Weather Channel fans just like me.

I can be followed on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/joeymgill

Well thanks, and once again, it's great to meet you all.

-Joey-

We've already talked in Gtalk, but a great big welcome from me! Have a great time here at TWCT, and see ya around! :)

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: How do you access TWCT Chat
« on: March 26, 2010, 09:22:59 PM »
Hey! First off, create an account at Ustream. Then, you need to download an IRC client, and connect to one of the following servers:
  • chat01.ustream.tv
  • chat02.ustream.tv
  • chat03.ustream.tv
  • chat04.ustream.tv
Then, when you get connected to the server, type the following in the chat box:
Code: [Select]
/nick <your username>:<your password>(without the <>s), and then type this:
Code: [Select]
/join #norfolk-weatherstar-4000Then, you'll see a chatroom with about 10 users in it. You'll be in the TWCT chatroom!

General Discussion / Re: Healthcare
« on: March 19, 2010, 10:26:12 PM »
I'm not for it at all. Nobama needs to get off his lazy chair and fix our abysmal economy before worrying about things that are far less important like healthcare and education. I know lots of people who are and/or know others who are desperate for jobs right now.

Okay. Here's the deal. If people die (or get hurt and can't work), there won't be people to work any jobs. If people aren't educated, there won't be as much of a quality workforce as we have today. So this very well is a step forward.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: Weather Data
« on: March 18, 2010, 07:50:23 PM »
I like the idea, although do you think you could use weather.com's reports? There are some areas where airports are very sparse, including where I live.
Going to use weather.com's API

I think we should use Weather Underground...for obvious reasons...:\ The personal weather stations are *much* more reliable than TruPoint, plus the issue about airports. There are many stations on WU...I just think it would be a better choice for accuracy.

I'm happy to say I have my desktop computer back up and running , and I like it more now. Not only is it faster...it is on XP Pro. That seems to take up a LOT less space than XP Home Edition, but then again...this computer is brand-new and has NO software on it that I haven't downloaded (Firefox and Paint.NET so far, Inkscape soon). Now I should be a bit more active and I might be able to eventually get the LAT48s video on here.
