General Discussion / Re: Google: NO Kids Allowed
« on: May 22, 2010, 03:20:45 PM »
Just like no one below the age of 13 is allowed on Facebook...but I have many friends on there that are under that limit. As others have said, it's only enforced if it's legally forced.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: Weather Data
« on: May 21, 2010, 08:00:27 PM »
The icons in the weather data are forced to be in the GIF format...which don't support alpha blending. (That means that some pixels may be more transparent than others. Alpha blending is found in PNG.) In GIF, you can have white borders or jagged, ugly edges. There are examples attached below. Which one looks better?

Martin can't help this, unless he wants to put up with a huge mess of coding. The weather data system that converts everything into the images you see here downconverts any icons into GIF format, as with the text (it's not anti-aliased). It really can't be helped easily, unless we have someone here who is good with coding with images.

I will say that DISH said they had gotten complaints from customers. Wonder why... :whistling:

General Discussion / Re: I finally got a job!
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:36:56 PM »
After a year of trying and six interviews, I finally was accepted to be a meteorologist at the Blacksburg, VA NWS office!  I'll be starting around the first week of July, which means I'll be moving over the next several weeks and may not be around here as much during that time.  Thank you for all your moral support as it's been a long journey for me.

Enough with the dancing! Ahhhhh Patrick, I'm so proud of you! Good luck!

Something tells me DirecTV could follow down this same path because the channel isn't doing what it's made for. But after all, viewers' LF wishes came true back on September 25, 2008.
I doubt it will happen with DirecTV. TWC and DirecTV wouldn't have spent a ton of time and money developing the DirecTV LF app for it to all go down the drain two years later.

Neither that nor would they have made the interactive app on DISH...

*cough cough*

As a DISH customer myself, I really don't care. I agree with DISH's reasons for doing this, and I don't think that TWC is worth that extra penny per month...if that's what it is. I'll have a real rant on my blog. Here's your disclaimer: there'll be a LOT of <censored>s.

EDIT: Posted.

I doubt the Titan HD RADAR is up to the second.

At this time, it's impossible for any radar to do that. It's just figurative speech...it just means it's updated as soon as it can be updated.

Well, tomorrow, I have the joy of waking up at 5:00 A.M. to get ready for a choir trip to Six Flags St. Louis...eek. Weather looks okay...unless I decide to ride some water rides. Then it'll be chilly. :P

TWC Classics News / Re: Trimming down content
« on: May 06, 2010, 10:56:54 PM »
I understand...much of the content on there is valuable, but some of it is just—odd. To say the least. So with some of the content, I wouldn't mind to see it go. But that's just my opinion.
Really? Like what?

I'd have to dig to find it. Some of the things in the videos are really cool but weird. Like some of the 1990s Christmas videos...those are weird but I'd never want to see them go. IMO, if it fits in TWCT's scope, I say it shouldn't be in TWCC. But that's just my opinion and I have no control over this...so it's all your call. I'm fine either way.

Cramming tonight for my AP European History exam tomorrow. Soo much work this week. Exams next week too.

You're better off not studying than cramming IMO.

Hmm, Google has changed their look a little with a slightly updated logo and a new sidebar on the search pages.

I believe it's been like that for a couple of weeks now iirc. To be honest they made it a bit Bing-ish.
haha.. "Bing-ish"..kind of sounded funny to me.  Yeah, I'm not really enjoying the new look/format..but whatever.

I LOVE it! It's a lot neater-looking to me. Surely there'll be a hack to go back to the old Google after the redesign really hits. (It hasn't fully soaked in yet.)

Hey...why is it that the exact same post from Aaron randomly jumped from before Ana's post to after her post? :hmm:
