Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Central 2010

If this disturbance develops soon, it'll be in a relatively unusual area. Also, I don't think it looks as well as it did yesterday.

Geez, you guys in the south start so early. My last day is June 18th and I go back September 8th. I heard a school in Camden doesn't get out until June 30th (possibly due to all the snow days).

We start next year on August 19th and SHOULD get out on May 13th. Of course, that day will change. Trust me.

Google lets you add a background image now...

Record SSTs in the area off the African coast with not too much shear. Juicy area for development.

I saw that the water temps were around 90°. That's a bit toasty!

Hurricane Central / Re: 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season Predictions
« on: June 02, 2010, 08:41:52 PM »
What's your predictions for the upcoming hurricane season, beginning June 1st?

Mine are for 20 tropical storms, 11 hurricanes, and 5 major hurricanes.

Reasons?

- Record-level sea surface temperatures observed in the Atlantic, surpassing those recorded in 2005. In addition, TCHP is at the highest level ever observed for this point in May.
- Below-average upper-level wind shear across the development regions of the basin, running between 5 and 35 knots below normal.
- El Nino is dying or already dead as we speak. The Nino 3.4 region is down to 0.0C which is exactly neutral. The other Ninos are either neutral with a warm bias or remaining at weak El Nino status, but are expected to decrease to "neutral" before the start of the hurricane season. A neutral to cold bias or weak La Nina is predicted for this year's hurricane season, which is similar to what we saw beginning in the autumn of 2005.
- Above-average moisture is forecast for the Atlantic during this year's hurricane season as below-normal air pressures are expected throughout the hurricane season. This will disallow dry air and Saharan dust to roam the Atlantic as it did in seasons such as 2007. African (Cape Verde) waves will be allowed to develop free of too much African dust and subsidence.

Honestly, I think I'm going to jump off the "going with Martin" bandwagon and say that this hurricane season might be just under the bar set by the 2005 season. Thus, I'm going with altesticstorm10's estimate.

Forecasters, even non-NWS ones, have said that this will likely be a hell of a year. Their words and mine.

but I can't wait for Hurricane Season to start!

It already has...unless you're saying you can't wait for a hurricane to actually hit so we can have Storm Alert. :P

I still have Office '03 on my desktop. I never upgraded to '07 after trying it at my school and realized how confusing everything is set up, especially the lack of menus and how everything's in "tabs." Plus certain themes you have set on your desktop don't apply to the new Office. I guess I should upgrade anyway though, lol.

Office 2007 has themes. Just go to the Office button, hit "__________ Options" and it'll be on the first page that comes up.

And to be honest, I find the tabs to be neater. You don't have as much clutter.

Anyway, I wrote an overview of the May 8, 2009 derecho on a page in my blog. (If you want to read the huge ramble, click on "Derecho" to the right of the header.) I didn't feel it fit in any weather boards, as it's nowhere near current. I've been planning to do this for a long time but have always gotten stuck and restarted. I finally have the text part done, but I'm wanting to add images to it now. It's still a work in progress.

Whew! My powerpoint and project for AP European History bumped me up to an A in that class! I am [now] happy with it :) Btw Office 2010 rocks!

LOVE Office 2010. :)

They have to have SOME way to get to Twitter, as some (all, now?) offices allow Twitter to be used for weather reporting.

Tomorrow is my last day of school.

On Monday, all of my friends and I began summer, likely not to see each other for a few months. :rofl2:

Jonathan, it looks that you have an iTouch. It probably only works on the phone.

They run on the exact same OS. The iPhone is just the iPod touch on steroids...it would work.

Do we have a mobile version of the forums?
Right here.

Also: iPhone users are seeing SMF4iPhone.

We are?

Oh, I found out what we need for it. I don't have the $2.99 for it, and I'm not going to use the read-only version. <_<

There is, but it's kind of frustrating at the moment. Go to the bottom of the index page and click WAP2. However, when you click to go see a message, it reverts back to the full version. To fix that, append "?wap2" (without the quotes) onto every address you visit here. Then, you should be able to work with the mobile version quite well. (It just hates us all right now.)

A new Weatherscan feed is expected to be launched in 2010 for Dish Network subscribers, to replace The Weather Cast service that had been founded as a replacement for The Weather Channel as a result of a carriage dispute.
That makes no sense. Why not just add WeatherScan to the lineup? :dunno:

I just looked at the guide and it now lists the old Weather Cast channel as TWC2. Maybe they're going to do our idea of a second channel for people that are only interested in weather.
They are just adding weatherscan units everywhere

Martin, they'd have to go in space and take care of that on their satellites. :P And then it wouldn't be local.

HD IntelliStar v2 Emulation

This is my HDStar v2 concept...I only made it in 720p so the icons wouldn't be blurry. However, it's pretty much the same thing as the IS v3 concept.

All data was valid at each image's time of creation. Kudos and copyright junk are all in the description over at YouTube.

EDIT: I should note that I will be releasing the blank screens for this video sometime this week, along with everything you might need to go with it. As of right now, I am writing up the readmes and adding files that some people may need to go with the blanks. Keep your eyes peeled!
