INLAND BROWARD... INLAND COLLIER...INLAND MIAMI DADE... INLAND PALM BEACH...MAINLAND MONROE...METRO BROWARD...METRO MIAMI DADE AND METRO PALM BEACH.

* UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING

* ALTHOUGH TROPICAL STORM FAY IS NOW INLAND IN THE LAKE OKEECHOBEE REGION, THE STORM CONTINUES TO PRODUCE TORRENTIAL RAINS ACROSS PARTS OF MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA AS SPIRAL BANDS ROTATE AROUND THE CENTER. TOTAL RAINFALL REPORTS AS HIGH AS 9 INCHES HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECEIVED IN THE GOLDEN GATE AREA OF WESTERN COLLIER COUNTY FROM SOUTH FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT RAIN GAGES. TWO ROADS NEAR THE NAPLES AIRPORT AND NEAR ALLIGATOR ALLEY HAVE BEEN REPORTED CLOSED BY THE NAPLES NEWS. GENERALLY TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES HAVE BEEN WIDESPREAD ACROSS MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA AND ANOTHER 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE TODAY.

* FLOODING OF POORLY DRAINED UNDERPASSES AND DRAINAGE DITCHES IS LIKELY WITH THE HEAVY RAINS FROM TROPICAL STORM FAY. PONDING OF WATER IN PARKING LOTS AND LOW LYING FIELDS AND ROADWAYS IS ALREADY OCCURRING. MOTORISTS SHOULD NEVER DRIVE THROUGH STANDING WATER OF AN UNKNOWN DEPTH.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE WESTERN HALF OF HENDRY COUNTY WHERE NEARLY 3 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN SINCE 8 AM. A FLASH FLOOD WARNING ALSO REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR METRO PALM BEACH COUNTY WHERE SPIRAL BANDS CONTINUE TO PRODUCE HEAVY RAINS. A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL FLOODING BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS.

RESIDENTS OF MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

...TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

...NEW INFORMATION...

LOCATION UPDATED REAL TIME REPORTS UPDATED

...AREAS AFFECTED...

THIS STATEMENT RECOMMENDS ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY PERSONS IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES OR MARINE AREAS:

GLADES...HENDRY...INLAND BROWARD... INLAND COLLIER...INLAND MIAMI DADE... INLAND PALM BEACH...METRO BROWARD... METRO MIAMI DADE...METRO PALM BEACH.

...WATCHES/WARNINGS...

THE FOLLOWING WATCHES AND WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR THIS AREA:

FLOOD WATCH. TORNADO WATCH. TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING.

...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TROPICAL STORM FAY IS MOVING ACROSS THE WESTERN SHORE OF LAKE OKEECHOBEE. TRAVELING IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED TODAY DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND TORRENTIAL RAINS. STAY AWAY FROM DOWNED POWER LINES. IF POWER OUTAGES OCCUR AND A GENERATOR IS USED, ENSURE ADEQUATE VENTILATION TO PREVENT CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.

...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...

THE LAKE OKEECHOBEE LEVEL IS NEAR 11.4 FEET, WHICH IS BELOW NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. AS THE CENTER OF FAY APPROACHES LAKE OKEECHOBEE, WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 80 MPH POSSIBLE, CAUSING ABOVE NORMAL LAKE LEVELS ON THE NORTHWESTERN SHORE. FAY IS FORECAST TO PASS OVER THE LAKE THIS AFTERNOON CAUSING THE WATER LEVELS IN THE LAKE TO FLUCTUATE DRAMATICALLY DEPENDING ON THE DIRECTION AND SPEED OF THE WIND. ONCE THE CENTER OF FAY PASSES THE LAKE, NORTHWESTERLY WINDS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE CENTER WILL BEGIN TO BLOW WATER TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST SHORE.

...WINDS...

WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CENTER OF FAY HAVE INCREASED AND WILL CONTINUE TO BRING 55 TO 65 MPH SUSTAINED WINDS INTO THE MOORE HAVEN, CLEWISTON, LAKEPORT, BUCKHEAD RIDGE, SOUTH BAY, BELLE GLADE AND PAHOKEE AREAS. A ROOF WAS BLOWN OFF A HOME IN MOORE HAVEN AROUND 1244 PM EDT DUE TO THE STRONG WIND GUSTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED NEAR 80 MPH. NUMEROUS POWER OUTAGES ARE LIKELY.

FOR THE REST OF MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA... SUSTAINED WINDS ARE 20 TO 30 MPH WITH FREQUENT GUSTS TO 35 MPH ESPECIALLY IN SQUALLS. WINDS ACROSS THE REST OF MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA SHOULD BE SLOWLY DIMINISHING TODAY AS FAY MOVES NORTH NORTHEAST.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE SUSTAINED WINDS IN THE LAKE OKEECHOBEE REGION WILL BE CAPABLE OF CAUSING DAMAGE TO CARPORTS, AWNINGS AND POOL ENCLOSURES AND SOME DAMAGE TO UNANCHORED MOBILE HOMES. SMALL BRANCHES BREAK OFF TREES AND LOOSE OBJECTS ARE BLOWN ABOUT. WINDS IN THIS RANGE BEGIN TO BECOME DANGEROUS ON BRIDGES AND CAUSEWAYS, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. POWER OUTAGES ARE LIKELY, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WITH ABOVE GROUND LINES.

...INLAND FLOODING...

TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS SO FAR HAVE AVERAGED 3 TO 5 INCHES ACROSS MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA WITH LOCAL AMOUNTS OF 8 TO 9 INCHES IN WESTERN COLLIER AND PARTS OF PALM BEACH COUNTIES ALREADY REPORTED. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES HAVE BEEN OCCURRING WITH THE STRONG SQUALLS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CENTER OF FAY AS IT MOVES ACROSS THE LAKE OKEECHOBEE REGION. AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ELSEWHERE ACROSS MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA THE REST OF TODAY. THIS RAINFALL CAN EASILY CAUSE ADDITIONAL FLOODING OF LOW LYING POORLY DRAINED UNDERPASSES AND DRAINAGE DITCHES, AS WELL AS PONDING OF RAINFALL RUNOFF IN PARKING LOTS. BE SURE THAT DEBRIS DOES NOT CLOG DRAINAGE ROUTES IN ORDER TO EASE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINS. FLASH FLOODING MAY OCCUR IN AREAS WHERE TRAINING OF SQUALLS SETS UP ACROSS THE SAME AREA FOR SEVERAL HOURS. MOTORISTS SHOULD NEVER DRIVE ACROSS WATER OF AN UNKNOWN DEPTH, TURN AROUND DONT DROWN. A FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT.

...TORNADOES...

QUICK STRIKING TORNADOES ASSOCIATED WITH THE SPIRAL BANDS OF FAY CONTINUE TO BE POSSIBLE AS THE STORM CONTINUES TO MOVE NORTH. HOWEVER... THE MAIN THREAT OF TORNADO PRODUCING RAIN BANDS WILL GRADUALLY MOVE INTO CENTRAL FLORIDA BY THIS AFTERNOON. A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT.

...NEXT UPDATE...

THIS STATEMENT WILL BE UPDATED AROUND 6 PM EDT.
