The real story on "Let's do that"
« on: October 11, 2008, 01:02:41 PM »
Rich and Sharon are known to use the phrase Let's Do That, or Yeah, let's do that or maybe let's do so, but they really don't have a choice. My mother worked in television for a long time and she knows that TWC uses something called a TelePrompTer or what some people call an Autocue. (more info here) The TelePrompTer tells Rich and Sharon what to say. Let's Do That is not their catchphrase, it's in the script and it is what the TelePrompTer shows. Therefore, Let's Do That is not really something that they say if they want. It is mandatory. You can still make fun of them for saying it but this is the truth.

The TelePrompter is only used at the desk, not at the walls. Even then, it only tells them WHAT to say, not HOW to say it.

I'm sure there are a lot of OCMs who don't even read the teleprompter all the time. I personally can tell when they are reading it and aren't. The "let's do that" and "gang" catchphrases are perfect examples.

They surely are because I don't believe that those words would be in a TelePrompter script. They have to have made that up.

Yeah, Squizz, they use the catchphrases during times when the teleprompter isn't in use. What you said doesn't apply to them at all.

Heck, back when EE Weekend used to start in the control room with a monitor for the prompter visible behind Adam, he would ignore the prompter and paraphrase what it was saying in his own way.
