I have grown to like Rich, but I remember years ago and now to an extent, he seemed to sometimes "downplay" bad weather... (making it sound less extreme as it really is).  Am I making sense?  Especially hurricane season... a cat. 5 could be spinning and he would make it sound like it was going to weaken and/or miss the mainlands.  Or I remember once a severe storm was headed our way, with warnings and he said, "you may see some lightning with this storm, but nothing too bad"- which it was bad!  Maybe I was misreading him though.  He has seemed to have mellowed out now some with his personality during the evenings with Sharon.  Before he seemed to lack sense of humor, but now he seems to chuckle occasionally- which is good.  I like a little sense of humor now and then, when the time is right.

I always thought Rich Johnson lacked expresson

Yeah, almost like a gloom and doom feeling.

The late nights are wearing on him... He just started getting giddy about the flooding along the Ohio River. He had to check himself by saying "It's really not a laughing matter". Even after that, though, he kept grinning throughout the entire segment.

Edit: I just tuned in at that point. For the remainder of the hour, Rich kept the grin beaming on his face and kept chuckling, and during the final segment, Sharon was laughing as well as she talked about playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine who would talk first during the segment. What kind of fumes are they breathing in the studio? I wonder if they've been giddy all night like this. Time to find out.

I haven't watched EEWC much tonight but they do seem a little punchy again tonight. Particularly amusing was both of them chuckling (coming out of a Forecast Earth segment, haha) with Rich's sporting a bright red face. And now Sharon warns us not to go anywhere unless it's the refrigerator because they'll be back in just two minutes.

I like the lightheartedness but seems a bit out of character for both of them...

Unless of course their character (or at least on-air character) is changing. Perhaps they've decided/been told to let loose a little since it's so late at night.

Tonight, they started losing it only 11 minutes into the program when Sharon thought the wrong graphic was being displayed even though it was actually the right graphic. She sighed loudly and said "It's late and it's Friday..." to which Rich replied, "Yeah, but it's not late on the West Coast..." and Sharon replied, "Yeah, but we're not on the West Coast...Wait a minute...that was supposed to be your turn to talk over that graphic in the first place!" Rich responded, "Yep," and Sharon sighed again and said, "I guess I could just work for you tonight!" Rich said, "Ok," and Sharon said something like, "Yeah, you could just sit over there and relax, and I could just take care of things," and Rich giggled some more and was like, "That sounds good."

They got a little silly again at 11:25 PM CT when Sharon mentioned a game she likes to play with the kids on a rainy day. Rich looked at the camera and said with a lot of enthusiasm, "THAT is something that NEVER would have occurred to me!"
