That's a terrible shame.  WHY does The Weather Channel keep letting its long-time and talented staff go?  It's for the sake of younger and "fresher" faces who identify with a "younger" and "more hip" viewing audience.

The Weather Channel shouldn't be trying to compete with MTV, but it does...

There goes the last OCM from the original cast that debuted with TWC.  I hope he finds a good job in the future.  I'll certainly miss him. :(

Wow, what a shame. I dunno if he'll stay in the meteorology career. I wouldn't be surprised if he came back to the Tampa DMA as he left WTVT to work at TWC.
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

Although not flashy, Keneely was one of the top OCM at TWC. Is it because of the seeking of new demographics or does salary come into play?  I guess Cantore, Morrow & Seidel are the old timers now.

Are they making as many changes for behind the camera employees as well?

It definitely seems like they're seeking a younger demographic.  Such talented and seasoned meteorologists are being lost for that reason.  Salary also seems like an issue, too.  It costs less to employ younger and less experienced meteorologists with less seniority.

Here's how I see the whole situation. These older OCMs aren't going to be around forever. While I don't think NBC will lay anyone off anytime soon, I believe a few OCMs will retire in the next few years, so they need new talent now to learn the ropes at TWC now so they will be ready in a few years to replace the older OCMs.
Well, I was totally wrong, then.

Not necessarily, the layoffs had already happened before you posted that. :fear:

Or it could be because they no longer can afford the higher salaries of the experienced OCMs...think about the economy folks.

I think you are exactly right, Molly. TWC is probably firing the old (good) OCMs to hire new ones for a lot lower salary to save money. :(

This is really a sad shame, though, to see Bill go. I hope he is able to quickly find work somewhere else.

How does The Weather Channel compete with MTV? I don't really see the connection there

Sad to see Keneely go, but as I stated before, not surprising.

It's a shame to see him go, but when he said with MTV, it's symbolism for other big networks... or so, that's what I think. TWC needs to stop cutting the good personalities and get working on what the network is there for... the weather. I don't want to watch "Flick and a Forecast", or any more of their related garbage. I just want to see the weather, that's it :hammer:

Sorry  if I seem harsh here, but I just have to let off some steam...

Geez, another layoff? How about lay off Vivian Brown, Jeff Morrow, Mike Seidel, Nick Walker and Carl Parker while they're on that.

Seriously, all TWC seems to care about nowadays are Stephanie, Jim, Jen, Adam, and Al. Might as well just have a channel consisting of those five and fire everyone else.

Well, from TWCs fine example they set, i'm sure it'll be that way. Now, I will say this. If they get rid of Stephanie, Vivian Brown, or Jim, I am just going to quit watching TWC all together. They are indeed my favorite personalities on the network, and there oubviously are more, such as Samantha and Mike. What TWC is doing is garbage, just like their programming.

Jim is pretty much the "face" of The Weather Channel, so I HIGHLY doubt they will let him go. ;)

As for Stephanie, heck, is she even around at TWC anymore or on assigment somewhere else? Who does WUWA now? I never watch it (nor will I) to find out.

But it is sad that these "classic" OCMs are being laid off. I'm just interested to know WHO TWC likes and WHY they like them. For example, why are Jen and Adam the ones hosting the Summer Beach Party? I like them both...I think they would do a great job, but WHY are they the ones hosting. :dunno:
