A note from Nick Walker
« on: January 05, 2015, 06:13:54 PM »
I figured I would pass this note on from Nick Walker.

Dear Friends,

I wanted take a moment to thank you, and to tell you all what a privilege it has been working with you these past fifteen and a half years. It’s an understatement to say that I am proud and grateful to have worked with so many people who have brought unique talents and unparalleled expertise to create a one-of-a-kind television network. It has been a period of growth for me, both personally and professionally. For the time that many of you took to educate me, challenge me and help me to have the career some broadcast meteorologists only dream of, I am forever grateful.

If you would like to reminisce with me, here are some of my favorite moments from my time here. Many of you have shared some of these memories with me over the years, some fun, some sobering.

From the “Hey, can’t you take a joke?” department:

You may have seen these already, but

here's
 that questionable appearance on Letterman:

I’ll never live down Stephen Colbert’s outrageous green screen substitution:

And as it turns out, my biggest fan is a fictitious character:

From the “I Must Be the Forrest Gump of Weather” department:

I consider it my fortune to have reported many of the big stories. Maybe it was just dumb luck, but I am thankful for the opportunities to have been on the air during the landfalls of Hurricanes Floyd (1999) Charlie and Frances (2004), Katrina, Rita and Wilma (2005), Ike (2008), and Isaac (2012) and during the April 27, 2011 Super Outbreak. Besides those major events, there were many enjoyable memories, including narrating all those “Forecast Earth” specials (the infancy of long form!) and representing TWC at NWA conferences, AMS Weatherfests and educational outreaches around the country.

And, from the “How Can We Miss You if You Won’t Go Away?” department:

I hope to be back with you on a free-lance basis from time to time, so perhaps you haven’t seen the last of me in these hallways. Also, I am still active in the NWA and AMS, so I’ll be looking forward to seeing you at a future meeting.

So thanks again for everyone’s professionalism, expertise, kindness and helpfulness. It is a rare gift in the broadcasting business to be able to say it, but everyone here has my sincere and lasting admiration and respect. I will miss you all.

Lastly, here’s one more fun time some of you will remember:

Here’s wishing you a bright and successful New Year. The best is yet to come!

Nick

Nice to see you on the forums, Nick!  I remember watching you on First Outlook with Kim (Perez at the time) and Weather Center with Vivian Brown back in the day. And lol, those are funny video clips!

It's a good perspective.  It's one thing to just complain about what gets lost, but it's another, very rewarding thing to think about all the good times there once were.

I...don't think that's Nick Walker. He's a TWC employee, but I don't think he's Nick Walker. Maybe just passing along an email?

I'm a little confused based on how that letter is written... is Nick leaving?

There is another thread about Nick Walker and Kelly Cass from December 30th or so...
