When watching TWC, do you decide whether you like an OCM based on their looks, or on how well they do their job?
Me, I never judge the OCM's based on their looks. Instead, I always judge them by how well they do their job. If I like the way they presented the weather, then I like them. On the other hand, if I don't like their presentation, or don't enjoy watching them, then I don't like them. I think its ridiculous to judge based on looks. I've always hated TWC for deciding that looks are more important than anything else. IMO, TWC's aim for beauty really has made some of the female OCM's look much less professional than they used to. One good example of this that comes to my mind is Kristin Dodd. IMO, when she first came to TWC back in the 90's she looked like a mature professional. Today, on the other hand, she's been glammed up so much that she looks 20 years younger than she did back in the 90's. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, its just not what I watch TWC for.

Hmm, let me check. There's a person with weather slides in the background. Okay, we're done. :P
-
Huh?
-
I judge by small things. Appearance, Attitude, the way they talk, the way they move, etc.

No surprise there. :D
Other then the way the talk, i don't think any of that matters, because weather isn't about any of those things. IMO, a good OCM is one that can talk about the weather in an informative, enjoyable way. For example, I like how often times the OCM's try to make their forecasts more personal by talking about certain specific areas in a state or region they're talking about, whether they are familiar with the area's they're discussing or not. Often times, when they do this it gives you the impression that they ARE familiar with the area they are discussing.

Yes but its the little annoyances that make me dislike them. for example, I cant stand the way Cheryl Lemke talks.

That's just nitpicking and being petty in my opinion.

Huh?
As long as they have weather graphics (slides) in the background and they are talking about them, I am happy. Does that make more sense? (It was originally supposed to be a joke but now it's killed :P)
-
LOL. Now I get it. And its still kind of funny too! :D

So, you'd be happy if they had the weather map in the background, and the OCM was talking nonsense about them? :P
-
Personally, I think you can have all the graphics in the world behind you, but as an OCM its what you say that is most important. That's one of the reasons I like Dave Schwartz so much. He gives the weather in an informative, yet enjoyable fashion. IMO, his humor gives his presentation an excellent extra touch. But on the flipside, there are some OCM's who do a terrible job of verbally presenting the forecast, and I don't enjoy them at all, with or without graphics.

I agree 187.6%

I would judge an OCM on their personality and dress. Heather Tesch wears some pretty wild clothes every morning shes on air.
-
Thunder....I like Heather as well....she's very professional...very polished...seems to do a great job....
-
I agree with you both. In my opinion, of all the women at TWC, Heather is one of the best.
-
I'll agree with that
-
Yup, i love the wild combbinations of clothing that Heather Tesch wears.
-
I base my opinion of an OCM on their personality. Looks mean nothing to me. Okay, so I don't want an OCM wearing a sweater and bathing suit, but as long as they dress professionally, I'm happy appearance-wise. As far as personality goes...I like OCMs that seem to love their job. People who have fun and don't take themselves seriously like Dave Schwartz are the best IMO! I realize that weather forecasting is a serious job, but if you can't laugh at yourself once in a while, then I'm changing the channel. I also like OCMs that know their stuff and act natural on camera. People who are too serious (ie. Kristina Abernathy) turn me off.

Dave Schwartz is the OCM God :D

Dave Schwartz is the OCM God :D
And let's not forget, Hillary Andrews! She's the OCM goddess. :D :P
-
And together, they are Batman!!!
-
I miss Hillary Andrews. I saw her slur through the way during EEWC with Dave Schwarz last year on July 4.
-
Yeah, she was pretty cool. I remember/liked her most from her screwups.
