Title: Cheryl Lemke
Post by: TATERPEELY on August 28, 2007, 10:44:04 AM
 Where is Cheryl Lemke? I love the way she tells the weather like a story. Such emotion! :D

I don't know. I've heard that TWC got rid of her, but I certainly hope that isn't true.

I hope Cheryl doesn't leave. She is one of my favorite OCM's. She has been working in TWC for a long time too.

Well her bio is still on TWC's site, so I guess that's a good sign....

Cheryl currently hosts Evening Edition West Coast on Weekends.

Well that would certainly explain why many of us haven't seen her. What an awful time to put her in.  >:(

I agree. <_< And, she really only works one hour, even though there are 2 hours of EEWC on weekends, the 2nd (last) hour is pre-recorded. If they just got rid of the special programming crap on weekend nights, and put a partner on with Cheryl, or at least move Cheryl to a daytime slot, it would be much better.
Title: Re: Cheryl Lemke

I'd prefer that they put her in a daytime slot. Cheryl is one of my favorites and I'd love to see more of her. IMO, they ought to put someone like Ryan Goswick on at EEWC and give Cheryl a time slot during the day.

I think what they should do is on EEWC, have Adam Berg from regular PME Weekend/EE to host it, similar to the setup on EEWC on weekends before the 06 schedule change - except then there were 2 OCMs hosting (Sharon and Mike Bettes). If Betty Davis wasn't pregnant I would say to have her on EEWC weekend (with Adam)

Sounds good to me. I don't care for either Adam or Betty that much so putting either or both on at that time wouldn't make me feel bad. No long timer like Cheryl should get the graveyard shift.

Cheryl should come back to the daytime shift. Put Ryan's zombie voice and Adam Berg in graveyard shift.

I'm fairly sure Adam Berg worked at WLOS in Asheville a few years ago. The locals hated him. I'm not a big fan of him, either...though I never saw him during his WLOS days.

Edit: Whoops. It wasn't Adam Berg...it was Mike Bettes.  :-[

I don't think Adam is that bad. He seems to be a pretty knowledgeable OCM, though I think he should remain on the weekend shift for a while more until he gets some more time under his belt at TWC.

Adam's actually been at TWC since 1999 as a forecaster. Sometime in 03 or 04 he started the OCM apprentice program and did Overnight Outlook for a while.

I think Cheryl is boring.  She needs to be with a co-host or something.  She never had any expression in her voice, and is not very loud.  She's never really been one to watch for me.

Adam Berg is annoying.  But, he's a good meteorologist.

Yeah, Adam's pretty boring. Nothing special about him. Cheryl is friend;y but as you said wxmediafan, her voice is expressionless.

I disagree with you both. I think Cheryl's voice is just fine. As opposed to the likes of say Alexandra Steele.

Cheryl's voice is A-OK with me.

Actually, it was Mike Bettes that worked at WLOS...not Adam Berg. Error on the first baseman, flag on the field...I know. I'm not entirely sure why he was not generally liked. It could be due to WLOS's consistent struggle in the ratings department. (Though it is one of only two TV stations in Western NC, the area is marketed with Upstate South Carolina)

I think my days of watching TWC are over (sigh) - Cheryl seems to have been banished (dammit! I'll miss her), and Dr Cullen isn't interested in objectivity (http://blogcritics.org/archives/2007/01/25/192645.php) - isn't that supposed to be the basis of any scientific study?   Ironically, John Coleman thought differently about the subject (http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/11/07/weather-channel-founder-global-warming-greatest-scam-history).   Personally I think the greatest threat to mankind today is cilantro (seems to be creeping into everything I try at restaurants these days)

I agree.

Cheryl was never one of my favorites. She suffered from poor timeslots and lack of chemistry with her co-anchors. Part of the problem is that for the last five years (at least), she's been primarily a fill-in, rarely working with the same person two days in a row.

Also - she worked with Stokes as his regular fill-in co-host for years. Whenever Barrington, Andrews, Lopez, or whoever else was a regular with Bob was off, she was with him. Then, suddenly, she's banished to probably the worst time slot on the network - weekend overnights. As soon as they fired Bob and Hillary's claims were given credibility, boom, she's back on her old morning/midday fill in shifts.

Speculation over at Medialine is that the Dave/Cheryl/Eboni bloodletting was actually a severance package - voluntary buy out deal. TWC was looking to cutback and offered a deal to anyone who would volunteer. Eboni is still early in her career and may be looking for a better gig at a local station. Dave had a cancer scare and still didn't look 100%, he may want some time off. And Cheryl's been bounced around at TWC for so long she probably saw the writing on the wall. If this was a voluntary buyout, that would explain why they stayed on air for two weeks after the layoff was announced.

If Cheryl took the buyout because she saw the writing on the wall - it was the right move. If she was still around, she would certainly have been in the group let go this week.

It looks like she started at TWC when she was about 25. Wow. She's been there for 22 years and is still under 50. She has the personality to be a great, local market, morning news meteorologist. Perky and pleasant - just the personality many stations are looking for to cover that morning bit. And while some have described her presentation was robotic - it was mostly due to misplaced inflection. But watching her airchecks on medialine - she's solid.

Here in Seattle one of our stations hired this really attractive, late 20, blond bombshell to be the chief meteorologist. She looks great. She always has. She'd been on the local cable news channel and did back up work at one of the other stations. But when I first saw her nearly 7 years ago, I thought her presentation sucked. I saw her last night. It still does. She's not even in the same ballpark as the three other main mets in town. She's not even as good as the guy she replaced. If you can't get through your presentation without pausing to think about what you're going to say about the map that just popped up, you're not doing it right. You've got to know whats coming up and what you're going to talk about before it pops up.

Its the same problem with Sam Mohr. She looks good but she can't present. Being an OCM is hard - you have to be able to ad-lib and move from topic to topic flawlessly. Sam Mohr can't. Rebecca Stevenson (Seattle) can't. But Cheryl Lemke can. And in my book, that counts for a lot.

Does anyone know where Cheryl is working now? I can see from that site that she is probably an OCM still..but where is she an OCM at? It's a pity NBC booted her, she was my mom's fav OCM...and we've been watching her since 1998 (my mom since 1995).

There's a resume and contact information on that site, which is trying to get employers to consider hiring her. The information about her experience at TWC is also written in past tense, telling people that she no longer works there.
