Carl Park made an interesting announcement today via Facebook:
A bit of news- I'll be off Day Planner through severe season, specializing in severe weather and working as backup and support for Dr. Greg Forbes. Convective meteorology has long been my passion- I welcome the opportunity and will do my best to keep our viewers safe this season!

I think this is a direct result of his awesome performance during the horrific tornado outbreak last week. Congrats to Carl, and I certainly look forward to seeing him alongside Forbes!
On a side note - what does this mean for Cantore? Will we see Cantore, Parker, and Forbes all together?

Interesting move. I am looking forward to see Carl and Dr. Forbes work together. Like Tyler, I thought they did fantastic during the tornado outbreak a couple weeks ago. You bring up a great point with Cantore; it'll be interesting to see what happens. Maybe they will send Cantore out to cover those severe weather events instead of having him in studio.

Great move. Carl certianly knows his stuff, especially relating to severe weather. Good for him.

Just what I've wanted. Jim is a great met, but Carl beats him at in-studio performance. Jim is better in the field.

Did you read that quote I posted? He will no longer be on Day Planner during severe season. He'll only be on when Forbes is on.

This could also mean that in the event that Dr. Forbes isn't available (day off, vacation), Carl would sub for him and Jim (or someone else if Jim is in the field) would join him.

Carl was on YWT this morning covering severe weather. I think that might be the earliest I've ever seen Carl on.

Carl has done Weekend View quite a number of times since the 2008 HD relaunch.

LOL, when I first saw this thread I thought Carl became a Dr. :rofl: Anyways this is good to hear, Carl really knows his stuff and would make a great pairing with Greg and Jim :yes:

Considering how hard he has worked over the past year with all the severe weather, he deserved this recognition. Someone else has to help out Dr. Forbes as he can't do it all. Carl Parker should be able to handle this job quite well. :yes:

If this is the case, why hasn't Forbes taken a much needed vacation? I'm concerned that man is gonna land himself in the hospital. He hasn't had a day off since February.

He has something called a contract, which spells out when he needs to be on air, and when he can take his vacation.

Tyler is right. He's always needed because of the recent severe weather outbreaks, and he may be needed a lot more because of hurricane season and stuff. When will he have a day off? no one knows.

If Dr. Forbes was getting overwhelmed, I'm sure all he'd have to do is tell management. They know he is at age and would give him time off. I'm sure he's working hard b/c he knows they depend on him so much, after all he is doing the career he loves. I'm was a little angry the other day when I heard him give an update, he sounded so tired, exhausted, and just worn down.

Yeah - it seems like he can't get a break at any time, since there's always the potential of some severe weather somewhere!
Did you know... the United States is the only industrialized country that doesn't mandate any vacation time at all? In Europe, you get a minimum of four weeks a year, period. And Europeans actually enjoy their vacations more, while Americans tend to think about how much work that's piling up for them to return to.

Carl returned to Day Planner for July 12th working with Heather so I guess he might still do a few OCM shifts a month.
