Ha! (Well, since this is the only topic I could find about Dr. Knabb, I'll post it here). But I just found out that my meteorology professor for INTRO 1 this semester, Dr. Kevin Kloesel, was one of Dr. Rick Knabb's professors at Florida State in 1992! Of course, Dr. Kloesel was bad-mouthing Dr. Knabb in some cases about when and why certain hurricane warnings were issued.
A big thing our professor said is that people tend to go to the models first (he said Dr. Knabb even told him that he did this), and that is NOT the ideal thing to do. When trying to predict the path of a hurricane, it's best to look at the atmospheric conditions and how it all "comes together."
So...just a bit of trivia for you.
