New site design
« on: March 06, 2011, 03:54:58 PM »
Today marks the 20th anniversary of the debut of the "Weather You Can Always Turn To" campaign and "the new look for TWC," as Rich Johnson once said. To mark this event, TWCC is debuting its own "new look." I invite you all to check it out.

Looks nice although when I type in twcclassics.com or http://twcclassics.com, I get redirected to http://twcclassics.com/php and it seems to be doing this as when I click on the site logo, www.twcclassics.com is used..
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

I was thinking about this myself...though I forgot the exact date that the WYCATT actually made its debut. But, yes, I've been thinking, it was 20 years ago this month that TWC's "Weather You Can Always Turn To" on-air campaign debuted. And, at the time, it truly was weather you could always turn to. 24/7 weather, local forecasts every 5 minutes, with only occasional specials, for example, "Dangers Edge", "The Enemy Wind" and "El Nino: Drought to Deluge". I have lots of footage from that era that lasted almost exact 5 years, through March 1996. Memories, memories...

Oh and by the way, great new look, Matt on the twc classics web site.   :twothumbs:

It's suppose to redirect to www.twcclassics.com. Not sure how to fix that, so I've taken that rule out for now. Thanks for letting me know.

When I launched the new design, I added code that would track all the site's "file not found" errors. Looking at the results today, I was rather surprised to discover that a lot of people are still looking for the forum. So I thought about re-posting the forum (in read only format, of course), but in attempting that I discovered that the database dump I have is incomplete. It's missing a lot of posts (and possibly other things). Not sure how this happened, but it did. So I'm wondering if anyone saved the forum. At the very least, what I'd like to do is add back relevant posts.

Great site job, Matt! it was at this date 8 years, on the evening of March 10, 2003 while doing a search for Bobby Love's Channel Weather CD I stumbled into the site then known as "Matt's Guide to the Weather Channel". which allowed me to finally know all that TWC music ive grown to love over the years.... and the rest, as is said, is history........

I like the new design, but why do you update the look of your site so often, Matt? :dunno: I guess it never hurts to try something new (and like I said, I like this design), but it seems like once we get used to one look/layout, it changes again. :hmm:

All you need is a scrolling bottom display that would show the current conditions, and it will look pretty close to a 4000 on your site.  It looks good to me.  You sure like to change the designs a lot as Andy noted.

I know, and I apologize. I'm not planning on changing this one for a while, though. The reasoning is that I've always wanted a Weather Channel-like design, but one I made. Not having Photoshop until recently, I used Charles' old design for a few years. Since I had no way to make my own at the time, I started looking for a template. So I found the now previous design. About two months ago, I was messing around with some graphics and came up with this design. I thought it looked pretty cool and I liked the fact that it was something I created. So I showed it to a TWC friend. He really liked it too. So I decided to run with it. I might make a few tweaks here and there, but nothing major for at least a few years.

I love it, +1 for using my favorite legacy STAR for the design.

FYI - I will be launching the new structure/navigation and the new blog tonight. All old links should redirect to their new one (if it's changed and the page still exists). Additionally, the playlists have been updated to reflect all known songs at this time. Some old content has also been added back. New content and more old content will be added soon. Let me know if you run into any problems. Thanks.
