I heard that all 4000's & Jr.'s are being discontinued by the FCC on March 3rd! Here's the article: http://cuberham1.webs.com/apps/blog/show/2984772-fcc-to-put-weatherstar-4000-and-weatherstar-junior-out-of-service (http://cuberham1.webs.com/apps/blog/show/2984772-fcc-to-put-weatherstar-4000-and-weatherstar-junior-out-of-service)
:censored: NOOOO THIS CAN'T HAPPEN NOW!!!

For the first time in the 20-year history that the WeatherStar 4000 will be discontinued by FCC on March 3, 2010. But don't give up, I know we still have our WeatherStar 4000 Emulator Software from our computers. To get them, visit www.taiganet.com (http://www.taiganet.com).

I can't take that blog post seriously for one second. The FCC doesn't care if the systems are "too low-tech." There are many local public access channels out there that are using technology that is much more "low-tech" than the 4000 and Jr. Plus there is absolutely no sources given on that blog. The last sentence makes me laugh:
When the 4000 and Junior are put out of service on March 3, The Weather Channel will not have any more weather and computer systems that came out in the 20th century.
Just a few lines up, the blogger stated that "About 60% of the 4000 systems in the country were replaced with the Weatherstar XL between 1999 and 2001." The blogger acknowledges that the XL came out in 1999, and then contradicts that in the last paragraph.
Fail.

Umm this is fake

Until i hear reports from those places who have 4000's and Jr's im not buying this.

Don't believe this

Don't believe this
My reaction at TWCC
Bullshit.
The only reason the 3000 was put out of commission was because it failed to produce a warning tone, which by 2004, was against FCC standards for technology that announced weather warnings on television. If it was able to produce a tone, it would still be with us today. :ermm:
However, the 4000 and Junior can still produce tones (I think ).

Yes, lets also pull the XL and Istar from the market  They basicly have the same features as the 4000 and Jr, just better graphics and faster GPUs and CPUs... plus ethernet. This is a fake, fosho.

Lol, that was funny!

This is beyond appalling. There is absolutely no reason to decommission the 4000... not one. It is able to produce a warning tone, which if most recall, was the reason the 3000 was done away with. The problem here is that I have never been able to get a video of it. I know I remember seeing the 4000 in the thumb back before 2005, and at the time, I thought it was really primitive compared to the Intellistar (this was years before I understood the differences). I have tried a couple times to go find a 4000. I tried going to Yale (east side of the state) last April, but I ended up going to Houghton Lake. I tried going to Metropolis IL (north side of Paducah KY) last June, but the trip never materialized. I also wanted to go to Newberry (up in the UP) since due to its size and the fact that it has its own headend, I had thought it might have the 4000. But, the area is too small, and most every hotel/motel up there has satellite.
Bottom line, I am just ashamed that my chance has gone out the window. I will never have a chance to record it for myself. Those users here who have recorded it should feel quite lucky right now.
I think the article is fake Aaron, if you read the last part of it, it says TWC will have no STARS from the 20th century left and that's not true, the XL came out in 1999, so technically it came out in the 20th century. Also there are other things in that article that sounds suspect, I wouldn't see a reason for the FCC to remove it because it's low-tech.

This makes no sense whatsoever.

This is very sad. :(((
I once saw a WS4000 in Lake Tahoe, but never saw a Jr. :'(

I knew that blog post has FAKE all over it.

Someone started a rumor on TWC Classics yesterday that the 4000 and Junior were being decommissioned. I just found out it was fake. I thoguht it was true so I told people on TWC Classics and TWC Today. I even told The Weather Chazz on YouTube. Now everyone has to explain that it was just a rumor and the 4000 and Junior are still alive and well. All that confusion about the 4000 and Junior was caused by that one person!!!

You're the one who made that blog post, so you started this rumor as far as we know. You need to immediately start acting a lot better around here and follow the rules, or you'll be gone permanently from this forum. :hammer:

You can't just pick up something that was hearsay make a blog post about it and then post it like its news on all of these places. You will be warned

Martin, I really think you should just delete this thread. Locking it would not do much good

Why delete? This ruins the evidence
-
I agree. Leave this thread so people who haven't been notified will look at the proof here. I would say to lock it, but idk...

Wow thanks everyone for clearing this up. I cant believe I actually believed this for a second.

Some blog posts like those tend to lie about things, most of them start to spread rumors... like recently. Be relieved all this was a fake.

Epic fail.

Not falling for it. :bleh:

If the WS 4000 and Jr. were to be discontinued, we would've heard the news from The Weather Channel staff themselves.
