There will be a second Weather Channel CD out to be released on Jun 10. There is no artwork or track listing yet but it's interesting TWC will be releasing another album this soon. I'll contain jazz and some rock. If the song selection is good, I might buy it.

Very interesting. I'm certainly eager to see a track listing! :sunglasses:

Me too! :thrilled:
-
Probably gonna be that same old repeated crap, like Brighter Days and Just That.
-
Wow, another CD? I'll be sure to get it! Hopefully there's at least one hard to find song on there. B)
-
It would be a miracle if Eddie Reasoner or Trammell were to be featured.
-
I wouldn't count on that.

Yep. :(
I saw in an article that Steve Oliver and Trey Anastasio were to be featured in the first CD but never did. Maybe in the second...
-
I can see Eddie Reasoner being featured (at least the songs that were featured more recently than others), but definitely not Trammell.

If Eddie Reasoner is featured, then I hope "Mountains of Unaka" is on the album.

So am I!

Alright I found a partial track listing on a website: http://jazzhq.blogspot.com/2008/05/weather-channel-best-of-smooth-jazz-ii.html
Songs included in the second installment include -
Joe Sample "Rainbow Seeker,"
Ramsey Lewis' "Wade in the Water,"
Eric Marienthal's "Big Country,"
Russ Freeman's "Brave New World,"
Charlie Parker's "Now's the Time,"
Norman Brown's "Lydian" and
Jeff Lorber's "Pacific Coast Highway."
its an OK list to me IMO
-
Thats an awesome list! I may actually buy that CD! :twothumbs:
-
I am eager to see what the cover art looks like.
-
What sucks is that I already have "Rainbow Seeker" and "Brave New World".
Very good list, nonetheless.
-
Indeed, great list!!
-
Not bad a list, but I have the CDs of all those tunes so far...
-
Yeah I have them all also. But that's ok though, I'm just glad to see that TWC hasn't forgotten about us classic fans.
-
It's a good list, but the songs in there that I'm familiar with are ones I already have, so I doubt I'll buy this CD.
Isn't there supposed to be another CD called "Best of Regular Jazz" or something like that?
-
That's what i thought too.there was supposed to be a best of rock/new age
-
I was checking in to see about the new CD, saw it on Amazon. Thanks Victor! I'm excited to get it. And I read last night that Bradley Joseph's "Friday's Child" is included too. All the artists are among the greats in smooth jazz and should be a great CD.

You found that on amazon?

OMG! Chris Geith is featured!! Hopefully his two unavailable songs are on it! :twothumbs:

I don't think so. I told Chris about "Green Shadow" and he said he doesn't know "how to release it".
Maybe he's playing a trick on me? "P

You could tell him to put it on a snocap store. That's what Mark Minchello did with all his unreleased songs.
-
He didn't reply to my last email.
-
Eh. the Chris Geith song on the new Smooth Jazz CD will be "Restless Heart".
Nice song but i would've preferred "Green Shadow" over it <_<

So the CD is set to be released today. Anyone going to go and buy it? I was planning on getting it at Wal-Mart, but I checked their website (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10057755) and it says it's not available in stores. <_< I guess I'll have to check at FYE (the only other place around that sells CDs) to see if they have it; according to their website (http://www.fye.com/Weather-Channel-Presents--Locals-on-the-8-s-Front-Page_stcVVproductId40761614VVcatId455366VVviewprod.htm), it's in stock, but I don't know if it will actually be in store.
-
I'm gonna buy it.
-
FYE probably won't have it. The ones here don't have a really good selection of jazz music, and they do a horrible job at organizing their shelves. Are there any book stores (like Borders or Barnes & Noble) in your area? If so I'd check there. They have a good variety of jazz music including a lot of songs featured on TWC. B&N is where I purchased the first TWC CD.
-
I got the first CD at my local Wal-Mart, but they no longer have a jazz music section.
I plan to get the CD at Best Buy when I go Thursday...they had a couple of copies of the first one in stock.
-
I have no intentions on getting the CD currently as I have all but 2 songs in that CD.

Correct, FYE didn't have it, nor did they have the first TWC CD. There are no other places around here to get CDs at other than FYE or Wal-Mart.

Same; I got the first one the day it came out at Wal-Mart. I went to both Wal-Marts in town, neither had it. BTW, when I was at the other Wal-Mart in town (the one I don't work at), they were playing an Epic Conditions segment on the TVs. Why do they play that, but don't have the TWC CD?

That Wal-Mart is better than mine...they don't even render the HD video in HD on the TVs. They pump the video in SD there.

Just get it off the internet. It's the cheapest, easiest, and most effective way to get things these days.

Update: On Thursday, after I got my Wii ( :thrilled: ), I went to Borders to get my copy of the CD. It took almost half and hour and some gentle harrasing of the staff (NOT Bob Stokes-style) to go to the back and check...and I got a copy. Overall, I'm pleased with the CD, a good mix of classic songs/artists (Rippingtons, Eric Marienthal) and new stuff (Lorber, Williams, Joesph).
What's interesting is the liner notes...three OCMs give quotes - Carl Parker, Betty Davis of PM Edition, and Kim Perez of Weekend Now.
I also like the cover and images used in this set...better than some random person standing there.
-
They're starting to advertise this CD today. They just showed a new LOT8s opener for it.
-
Wow, they waited long enough, didn't they? :o
-
So they're going to play the CD music all month?
-
That's usually how the playlists work, isn't it?
-
That's usually how the playlists work, isn't it?
last time for the 1st cd they played it for 2 weeks before the new playlist started
-
Well I guess we'll have to see how it goes this time. :sunglasses:
-
I remember even seeing a PR article saying that the playlist was only for two weeks; I guess that was wrong.
-
Well they're advertising it this week so my guess is that the July playlist might start a week early.
Here's a clip: http://vicb14.googlepages.com/smoothjazz.wmv
-
The song in the opener is Holding Hands by Ryan Farish.
-
Which is not even in the current CD
-
it was, however on the previous CD.
-
Finally got the CD today at Borders. B)
-
Just got mine today at FYE. B)

This CD seems to be doing very well as it has been on Billboard charts for 7 weeks now, out of the nearly 8 weeks its been out. :cool3:

That's cool! I bought my CD from Borders on Tuesday. Good music selection.
-
It remains one of my favorite CDs. It enjoyed 15 weeks on the Billboard charts and still ranks very high (#17 in Smooth Jazz right now) at Amazon.

This CD is back for another go around on Billboard charts! How cool is that? See? We do have good taste in music.
