Title: Unavailable Music
Post by: G2003 on July 12, 2007, 11:56:59 AM
I think we should have a whole thread for discussion about unavailable music on the Playlists? What
does everyone else think about this???

I'm a little confused about what your asking our thoughts on-having a thread for unavailable music, or how we feel about it being played on the LF? Ill assume the latter though and say that I've always hated it when they play unavailable music on the LF. The songs that I like the most seem to always turn out to be unavailable, and its annoying to hear good songs that you can't get.

Both. Just like a general discussion thread about unavailabe tunes. That way there arent lots of threads
floating around in the future.

I have to agree, a lot of songs I like are unavailable. I've only been able to get a few of the ones I like.

Anyways, I emailed Wayne Gerard about that song "I'm All About You" that played in October that everyone
seems to like, but i haven't gotten a reply yet. Hopefully i will get a reply today  :)

I have been trying to get my hands on that song too....I have a lot of the music that TWC listed as "n/a" from 04 and 05 and even a few from 06 and 07...but some of my favorite songs from this section of LF music are unavailable..and I dont have them..

Most of my favorite songs are unavailable unfortunately. :( I love Wayne Gerard's song I'm All About You. Is he planning to release it to the public?

I emailed him around 11:00 last night, so i certainly didn't expect a reply till today. So far nothing.
I hope the email is accurate, I got it from BMI.

I've emailed COUNTLESS times for that song. Hope you have good luck though.

Has anyone been able to obtain Michael Ripoll's "Miss Libby"? It's such an awesome song!

If you all keep e-mailing him and he's not replying, there's probably a reason for that.

Recreating music isn't too hard, especially considering that many unavailable songs are short. (At least I think so). For example, "Wait A Minute" by Mark Krurnowski is a little over 2 minutes long. I'm not sure how long Simple Pleasure is, but it couldn't be THAT long.

Not always. Still In The Deuce by Funktelligence is nearly 6 minutes long. So no, not always.

Title: Re: Unavailable Music
Post by: Localonthe8s on July 16, 2007, 12:32:29 PM
I would imagine that the unavailable stuff is more than 2 minutes long. Has there ever been any songs on TWc that are exactly 2 minutes about that long? Then those such songs wouldn't need to be edited. The only 2 minute songs I can think of are the Storm Alert music themes.
Title: Re: Unavailable Music
Post by: lfmusiclover on July 16, 2007, 03:02:06 PM
Actually, there have been many songs over the years that are 2 minutes or just above. Ficara's songs, for example, were seldom longer than 2:30.

My guess is slowly. I don't mean to sound nasty, but for whatever reason Kyle gets things done very slowly. I noticed this when I was running everyhting off his server. Issues were always addressed very slowly. I don't know if its because he's a procrastinator, or just busy. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though, and go with just busy.

As for BMI, not all musicians register with BMI. some may register with ASCAP, or not register at all.

Actually, Miss Libby is not renamed. All of the works match with the listed on his website. I'm not sure if this is the right Michael Ripoll. I mean none of the music on his site sounds anything like the song I'm looking for.

Looking at the playlist, Michael Ripoll is the only possible choice. It's not "After the Sunset" by Vince Madison pr "The High Road" by Fred Gross, because I have those songs. It sounds nothing like Patrick Yandall or Kim Hansen. And I doubt it's Art Ruprecht, since his music is usually very calm. That leaves Michael Ripoll.

Lets go for busy, Gary ;) :P I do balance a job and do this on the side..

On that note, the channel is coming along quite smoothly.. It is how ever very difficult to make things that are not already copyrighted by TWC or other companies..  I'm so used to making Emulators and such that just have the TWC icons or the TWC logo, I cant do that anymore. Everything has to be original and my own work, I guess its a loop hole that I fell in to.. Also running this by my self is hard, there are so many things to do and its kinda difficult to do them all at once.. Although I am trying to build software that basically has macros that will do it all timed to the second.. So far things are good with that.. Right now I am working on the national (Better known as Satellite) Local Forecast.. It will look very similar to TWC's but will be my own.. I am also in my 'spare' time working on some sort of STAR unit.. I hope to launch things around the beginning of August..

Well it shouldn't be a problem, for the first few week right now the playlist consists of nothing but Vince Madison and generic music from a one DeWolfe Music.. (DeWolfe is the composer of the music of "No place on earth has better weather" station ID.)

It would take a hell of a lot of programming, I would also problaly have to give you some sort of receiver with a baseband port (Like the one I showed you a few months ago, but I'll talk to you about it on AIM)

Normally, it will be 2 minute cuts.. But I am trying to think what I will do with my 'off-air' time, I think I will play full music tracks over a national outlook; havent thought about it yet. I'll let you know as time progresses.

I will be posting on the website what has been requested, and what will be played. Don't expect the list until the launch of the website.

I was listening to Michael Ripoll's myspace, and the song "Alone" has the same background instruments as the alien song. What confuses me the most is that there is no guitar in the alien song, yet that is the instrument he plays.

Title: Re: Unavailable Music

I think the way it works is that artists send their music to TWC before its publicly realeased. In some cases, the music isn't even to be publicly released at all. This may be one of those cases.

Yeah he's a bit different. I'm talking about artists who don't have a BMI or anything else. Its like if you were to send some of your music to TWC. You don't have any publicly available music, nor do you have a BMI, but TWC could play your music, and none of us wuld be able to get it becuase your virtually unknown.

Money wouldn't be an issue for me. I'd be making music because I like to, not because I want to get rich from it. In fact, I would probably have a full time job and only do music on the side.

Kyle uses the license from his company, which they right off as a business expense. I dont think the license is actually his.

Not really. It's production music, and they are obviously a production music library.

One weird thing that I noticed out The Passage is that TWC only broadcasted the Right audio channel in Mono. I don't think they did this with most, if not any other songs. Kinda weird. I would kill for that song. :( I wish I could get it.

They're all on BMI. But that doesn't mean they're easily available to the general public.

It's expensive to obtain those though. Hundreds of dollars. Not only you need a license, but you have to pay huge money

And you can't get a license unless you are in the right industry.

contrary to popular belief around here, onced you license it, BMI doesn't give you the song. You have to get it from the artist no matter what. Of course, they;d give it to you once you license it, cause its making them big bucks. :D

Yeah, thats not even a matter to be concerned with. Its a given that your gonna get the song.  :whistling:

Emailing Frank is a waste of time. He never replies. But if you must know his email, it's on the munchkin studios website.

I think I know Joe laskota's email. He's part of a band in his myspace. I'll need to contact one of the members first.

Derek, it was via PM. Not in public where some people might know. But it's ok. I used to like a lot of unavailable songs years ago like "Im All ABout You" and "16th and Mission" but now I don't care about those songs anymore.

Who else is gonna know? I only know of one other person who would take time out of their day to search for an unavailable artist.

Arrgh, if only the artist of this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jQXgMfgxSQ) would come forward and reveal him/herself!! :pinch: I'm very grateful that Steve put that clip up though. I've been dying to hear a narrationless, 2 minute clip of that song for well over a year now.

I'm sure most people are over this song or have forgotten about it but I was browsing around and found a popular song from August-September 2006 that I'm sure most of you will recognize:
