Wow, it's even better than I thought :o

Looks like the HD STAR has an airport delay segment too. :o
Very interesting.

They're probably REALLY close to the actual thing.
-
Oh. I just noticed that it's from the TWC Media Kit website. I thought it was just someone's fantasy star or something
-
The differences between the creation seen there, and the actual product will be seamless. And yeah, all units are made up in Photoshop, then animated in AfterEffects, and then finally editied together using Avid... Once the mock product sample is made, programming and graphic design / animation begins.
Right now there are 2 projects on the go, the HD Star and another project.
-
Gary, I've found the original .mpg version of this, want it for the site?

Nooooooooooo
Please don't replace the SD satellite. I don't wanna succumb to the HD crap satellite they have now!

you seem to be the only one who dislikes the HD Satellite....and btw SD Satellite will in no way be associated with TWC HD Satellite...

Well, it's kind of hard to read when the font is this small (ok, smaller than that). And I've been SO accomodated to metro forecast/regional forecast (or 3 day forecast)/precip/thunder (severe weather alerts)/radar and sattelite we've seen over the last 5 years.
Besides, why are satellite viewers gypped of an LDL from what I've seen?

If you see the HD Satellite LF in true HD, then the font size is perfectly fine. ;)

We don't have a Star. The HD LF runs completely from Atlanta.
Just like most people like the HD LF, most people also hate the LDL. You must be the polar opposite of the majority. :P
-
I just hate my LDL, since it signals my Intellistar is up and running. :furious:
I like the satellite LDL because it's fun bouncing through all of the cities.
I'll like this HD transition if:
They keep the SD satellite what it is, so I can enjoy my favorite LF
They don't turn skytracker into some tilt-o-matic carnival ride eye candy radar (eg: Carl Parker, Kelly Cass, Betty Davis, etc, having false sweep lines to show NWS radars, etc)
And looking at that HD STAR, why did the icons go poof on the current conditions?

once again...SD & HD Satellite Local Forecast are completely separate from each other.
-
What do you mean about the icons going "poof"? The icons are there; they're just a bit small in the internet videos.
-

Nah, TWC will probably redesign the SD one and screw it up.

They will redesgin the SD Satellite feed. It'll debut in the Jun reluanch
-
Yes, they are. Nothing that happens on the HD channel will do anything to change the SD channel. They are, for all intents and purposes, two completely different channels on the dial.

-
Your right, except about the part where they are different channels.. The SD feed will simply be a downconverted version of the HD feed.... The original HD feed will have an HD STAR while the downconverted HD feed will have the redesigned SD IS.

It's when TWC HD will launch.

So will it be another August 2005, where nearly everything changes, or what?

no not really...because they're likely the change the date. like they always tend to do...we can't PROVE that YWT and EE will 100% be in HD on EXACTLY June 2nd. Even if TWC did say so, because again they tend to hold things off.

True. Weekend View was SUPPOSED to launch sometime in July 2005, but that never happened. :whistling:

that's exactly what I was referring to. hahaha. didn't it debut in september? 2 months after it was originally scheduled?

No, on October 1st. It WAS supposed to launch in September, but due to hurricane trouble, they had to continue with Weekend Planner a couple of weeks until they could launch WV.

What about the IS?

Nothing will be happening to the IS, AFAIK.

Sweet mother good news. Can't get any worse, can it?

Why would they change it again when they just changed it a couple of months ago? Then again, we're talking about TWC here.

Oh, but it can! :P

Just some graphical things... All I can tell you is that there will be a change, and it should be around the HD launch.
-

The change(s) are based off of a few things you guys both here at TWCT and TWCC were complaining about the makeover. Again, can't say much except watch the tube, or pixel.. What ever you have. :P
-
Will they add new maps? A local forecast music screen? The return of the L flavor at :18 and :48 or better yet, NO NARRATION?!

OMG - they're actually going to listen to us! oh god its gonna snow (which never seems to happen in San Antonio BTW)! :ninja:
i'm not going to lie....the previous makeover was quite unprofessional IMO. seriously. I personally liked V1 better than V2 (current).

Yeah, I was personally attached to the previous look.. I didn't / don't like this release one bit.

It's not really a big concern to people outside the technical aspects of things so I wouldnt know..

I recently sent TWC an email about my strong opposition to the narration. Maybe they'll listen to their viewers, for once.
-
Wow, they actually saw.listened to/cared about what we had to say? Amazing! That means they must be checking in around here and at TWCC right? :twothumbs: :twothumbs:

They listened to us back on May 7th when the played the vocal music. They stopped it on the first day.

That too, I realised that after I posted.. but I've got a good excuse.. I haven't been to work in 8 days I've lost track of the days :P
-
that is very nice, i love it :twothumbs:

Wow, this looks possible new TWC HD local forecast graphics look great! I'm blown away. I still like some of the concepts I've seen in recent months that our fellow forum members (here and at TWC Classics) have created.
One question though, when it comes to what I have hoped for (as you've seen in my local forecast graphics pages), there will be actual scenic backgrounds of the location for the local forecast area for those NOT in major cities? For example, I wonder what will be the background for my most localized STAR, being downtown White Plains or my backup site which is Westchester County Airport (also in White Plains)?
But I'm most blown away by the preview video provided. WOW! That's what to expect for the upcoming "actual" launch of TWC HD? I cannot wait now!
-
I recently sent TWC an email about my strong opposition to the narration. Maybe they'll listen to their viewers, for once.
The idea behind "Vocal Locals" was to make getting weather information easier, a real example they give is if your morning schedule includes getting your children ready or preparing things for your day ahead, you can have TWC on in the living room, and you don't have to be in the room to read the local forecast, instead it is read to you out loud. This is way more important that you TWC music geeks (no offence!) who just want to hear the music, or in most cases record the unavailable music without narration.
-
Your absolutley right Kyle. Unfortunately, most of us music lover's have a hard time getting past our love of the music enough to see that what your saying makes alot of sense.
-
IMO, the narration is a perfect example of - laziness.
Most americans these days are too lazy to walk to their TVs and flip on the channel to TWC. They'll just sit tight (again my opinion, no offense) and listen to the narration at their own pleasure.

omg. are you even thinking about those who are blind? gosh.
-
Yes I know it's a major advantage for the blind but even then, not every visually impaired person will watch TWC
-
True, but I think that a responsible network has to try and cater to every possible viewer. Or at least as many as possible.

Let's use NOTHING but common sense here: Why on EARTH would a BLIND person have a TELEVISION???????????????????
If that's not indredibly rediculous, than i don't know what is.
-
Adding to that, back in the 90's, wasn't it viewers that COMPLAINED about Dan Chandler's narration, resulting in it being removed? It seems like the network did just the same with and without it, over the years.

Wrong... The introduction of the Local Update product on the 4000 in 1995 caused Chandler's narration to be removed.
-
Really? I could've sworn someone at TWC Classics said that a few years ago...
Couldn't they have just added narration for the Local Update? It's not like it announced that actual information, anyway. In fact, Up until the IS, the narration was 100% pointless, as it didn't read the actual info.
-

Dating back to 2000, the XL's Current Conditions and Extended Forecast narration was actually useful.

Yeah, but when it only says "Your forecast", thats pretty useless.

gil if you wanna act like and ass, you'll be treated like an ass. guaranteed.

Well, seeing that it's possible that the peeps from TWC check out these forums I have one thing to say... please make the LDL on the HD channel single height. While the standard definition IntelliSTAR needs double height, the high def version doesn't need it and might never need it. Just my two cents.
-

What exactly is your definition of single height?
-
I guess that means removing the blue bar below the content area of the LDL, making the content flush with the bottom of the screen.
The only problem is that it might look awkward if the top of the HD LDL terminates below the start of the content area of the lower thirds and other graphics.

The HD LDL doesn't have a blue bar below it... Its transparent below the LDL... No bar...
-
In that case, I guess that would mean simply making the bar flush with the bottom of the screen. It's been a while since I've looked at the demo video.

For what it is, it would just look weird if it was flush with the bottom since the bar has transparencies its self.

While the standard definition IntelliSTAR needs double height, the high def version doesn't need it and might never need it. Just my two cents.
What exactly is your definition of single height?
Making the LDL "single height" would mean taking off the extra blue portion from the bottom. For example, single height would look like this...
[LOWER DISPLAY LINE]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right Now > Washington, D.C. 72 (pic of sun) Sunny
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...while double height would look like this.
[LOWER DISPLAY LINE]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right Now > Washington, D.C. 72 (pic of sun) Sunny
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The extra space at the bottom is what makes it double-height.
-
From time to time there will be stuff on that lower line...
-
Also, there needs to be some space between the bottom of your TV and where the text starts because depending on your tv (it might not show the picture size the exact size) and the way your headend relays the signal, the text might get bumped off-screen a little.
-

Oh, definitely true. The 4000 constantly does that at the top of the screen with tube TVs. TWC's logo is cut off a little.
