Title: Traffic on LDL
Post by: Steve-O on July 24, 2014, 01:30:21 PM
There were traffic conditions on the LDL a short time ago...Anyone else seeing traffic conditions?

Seeing them in New Orleans on SD.  Can't check HD at the moment.

Remember when TWC dropped things like traffic from the LDL because people wanted only weather down there? Wonder what else will come back now.

Not seeing the traffic product on my STAR   probably because I am in a rural area.

i am getting traffic too! here is a picture of it. also there is a different lot8's flavor... no summery and longer cc screen. also no forecast except the hour by hour forecast and 7 day forecast, along with smaller text on the radar on my intellistar 2 jr.

I love the graphics for them! Can't get it right now since of course the IS2 here is simulcasted in SD. My IS2 hasn't been cueing today anyway.

Guys, I have a feeling that TWC has a new contract with Traffic Pulse (now known as Here.com).

Don't think it's Traffic Pulse, or whatever it's called now. Memphis has a new interstate (I-69) which is showing up on the LDL, but not on here.com.

I am seeing it in Dayton, too.
I don't think it ever existed for my area.

I just got back home and saw this and all I can say is "Meh". I can do without the traffic data, but to each it's own I guess.  :itsok: It only seems to display for the main city the IS unit serves. I only saw it for Atlanta, not College Park and Dunwoody.

It's not Traffic Pulse. It's a new vendor, but I can't confirm which one yet.

I personally think the traffic is a useful product (really would be shocked if people complained about it because they only wanted weather on the LDL), but if it's limited in what it displays, then it would be nicer if it can expand coverage if possible.  I'd be curious to know what the new traffic vendor is.

Unfortunately, with the LOT8s being so darn short, I don't see it as a good idea to make traffic a part of the LOT8s.

Light research indicates if it here here.com then it essentially is TrafficPulse.

Still not getting a local forecast to check it out myself, along with that seems to be 50% of the country based on what I'm seeing on their facebook.

Don't see it on the IntelliStar or IS2HD in San Luis Obispo, CA. Must not be a big enough city for the product, despite having some nasty traffic sometimes. Especially during rush hour.

McAllen's IntelliStar and IntelliStar 2 HD both have the Traffic product on the LDL.

Since I remember seeing a bunch of iHeartRadio promos recently on TWC, I wonder if perhaps the new traffic vendor is Total Traffic. Both are products of Clear Channel, and perhaps the two sides worked out a trade deal - you get our data. we get some ad time.

I saw the traffic on my IS yesterday.  I'm excited, and I'll have to add it to my emulations.

Maybe I could make video of traffic on LDL on YouTube or here

I'll get a video of the LDL traffiic up at some point.  To me it's an improvement over what they had before with the "blade" LDL, which I could barely comprehend.  It's introduced new issues for Fios' Unintellistar, though.

As for a provider, I would say Beat The Traffic.  Pelmorex owns BTT, and The Weather Company has a sizeable stake in Pelmorex.

It appears that the new traffic provider is INRIX.

The Weather Channel Began Streaming INRIX's Traffic Data in Continuous Ticker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-YSRWB-1iQ#ws)

Traffic flow shows up on the IS but not on the IS2 here.

Now that my IS2 for Audubon is back I get to get a glimpse. While the graphics are nice the road choices aren't. The traffic data for I-76 and I-676 is sufficient, but I-95's traffic data is for south of Philadelphia (I-676) down to I-495 in Delaware. Most people here who work in Philly get there by traveling from the bridges north of the city, making that data useless. There's also no mention of speeds on the highways here in NJ whatsoever! (I-295, NJ 42, NJTPK, NJ 55, etc)

Not too long ago, I saw traffic info for the first time on my STAR, which was for a closure on the Astoria-Megler Bridge due to a car accident.

I also got Traffic info on my IS as well. The highways displayed in both directions are SH-183, SH-360, and SH-121 (also shown on DFW's FiOS IS).
