If I had to guess, the music would start around the same time. Probably about a week before.

best time to air christmas music is Early December

I personally hope it begins December 1. It will most likely start on the 18th, though, if TWC doesn't get many requests for an earlier start to the list.  :hmm:

Are you serious? It's only October! :o I think they'll start about a week prior to Christmas like they've had done in the last 10 years.

Probably on or about the 18th-19th as it has this past decade. I remember in earlier years the list would typically begin sometime during the first full week of December and continue until New Years. Mid month (12th-15th) until at least a day following Christmas is reasonable. Yanking it for the regular list before the day closes IMO is deplorable.

I agree, only 08's playlist lasted for 2 weeks. I must say though, they should use new songs, not the same old all the time.

They did add a handful of new songs last year. Despite how short last year's playlist was, I liked it a lot.

I don't know if I'd like the music playing two weeks prior. I'm guess I'm a Grinch, because I just get so tired of all the Christmas hype. If all the T.V. stations didn't play Christmas commercials even in October, I might not get so tired of it. If it ever snows in NO, then I might have a different opinion of it.  ;)

You and me both. Honestly a week of Christmas music is enough for me after all the music and hype I hear from other places for as long as two months prior to the holidays. Although I wouldn't call myself a grinch since I'm not against Christmas itself. :P

Personally, I think Christmas music everywhere should be limited at first with only certain songs that describe the approach of the holiday for December 1-17.  By only giving out a few songs, it makes the journey more tolerable.  A lot of people forget that Advent is there for a reason. ;)  December 18-31 is when I feel there should be the full suite of Christmas songs.

A better question is what Christmas song hasn't been played every year on the playlist. :P  That song you mentioned plus "We Three Kings" and all the others mentioned above show up every year.

I know I Saw Three Ships and We Three Kings didn't play in 1999 (that year's Christmas playlist was rather boring, with about 10-15 total songs from only 4 artists), but other than that I think it has played every or almost every year since the late 80s or early 90s.
Title: Re: the weather channels christmas music 2010

However long the list runs this year, I hope they revisit using some songs that played from 2001 - 2004, particularly from Ottmar Liebert. "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" was a pretty good one. Those were the best Christmas playlists from this past decade/century.

Amen. I say stations and TWC should play Christmas music for the entire month of December or at least through New Years. December 26- Jan 1 is still the holidays for me. After hearing Christmas music since ~Nov15 It's frustrating that I can't hear it when the holidays are actually here!!

i asked around on fb to twc meteorologists about when the set would be decorated and the music played dr greg forbes had this to say...(I believe that poinsettias will decorate the set starting about a week before Christmas. I would think that we will play holiday music, but I don't know any details on that.) if we want the play list to start sooner all of you that have facebook request to dr forbes or anyone else at twc to start the playlist earlier

Shouldn't you be saying the same thing about the regular playlists that change and seem to hype up a lot of you? Christmas music is special because it's only going to play during one time of the year and it does happen to put some people into the holiday spirit including me, I'm not as easily dissuaded from hearing it play for more than a week.

For anyone who has contact with personel at TWC, could you ask them to extend the Holiday playlist to 2 weeks, instead of just 1? We hardly even get to hear the music, and then it's gone. Starting the list around the 10th, or even as late as the 15th, would be fine with me, and probably for all of us TWCC/Today members, along with thousands of other TWC fans. Thank you!  :)

I hope they start it sooner than the 18th. I hope they start it around the 15th or 16th. I also hope that "I Saw Three Ships" and "We Three Kings" both by David Arkenstone are on again, as well as, "Holiday Dance" by Michael Colone and "Carol of the Bells" by David Foster.

Back during the classic years, namely the early to mid 90s, they started it around the 10th or 11th but they had a bad habit of playing a mixture of both Christmas and non-Christmas music at the time.

I hope you know TWC is a huge corporation with hundreds of workers. Asking them on facebook is pointless and a waste of their time. They don't know all the technical details going on behind the scenes (and probably don't care).

I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but I contacted TWC on their Comments and Questions part of weather.com and asked for a 2 week holiday playlist, instead of just 6 or 7. Also, I hope "Ice fairies" is played. I love that song, but it hasn't been aired since 2006. I doubt it will this year, though, but hopefully I'll pleasantely surprised...
