still before Halloween but when do you all think the weather channel will start the Christmas music this year? last year it was Dec 18 1 week b4 Christmas and the year before 08 it was Dec 15
-
If I had to guess, the music would start around the same time. Probably about a week before.
-
best time to air christmas music is Early December
-
I personally hope it begins December 1. It will most likely start on the 18th, though, if TWC doesn't get many requests for an earlier start to the list. :hmm:
-
I think its crazy how they stop the music before Christmas is even over
-
Are you serious? It's only October! :o I think they'll start about a week prior to Christmas like they've had done in the last 10 years.

Oh look, someone could not wait till Christmas season begins.
December 13, at least.
-

...and how it only starts a week prior to. I say give it at least two weeks.
-
Probably on or about the 18th-19th as it has this past decade. I remember in earlier years the list would typically begin sometime during the first full week of December and continue until New Years. Mid month (12th-15th) until at least a day following Christmas is reasonable. Yanking it for the regular list before the day closes IMO is deplorable.

I agree. Two weeks is a fair time
-
I agree, only 08's playlist lasted for 2 weeks. I must say though, they should use new songs, not the same old all the time.

They did add a handful of new songs last year. Despite how short last year's playlist was, I liked it a lot.

i found out it will be a week prior to christmas now i know christmas falls on a sat i dont know if that means the week of christmas or the week before christmas....does anyone remember the year it started on Thanksgiving?

There was a year that the Christmas playlist started on Thanksgiving?
-
believe it or not there was i said i could not believe it and it was the only year they ever did it i dont remember what year though mabie 02-03 not sure

Actually I like having just the older songs. Its a sort of tradition. :)

Right on!

I don't know if I'd like the music playing two weeks prior. I'm guess I'm a Grinch, because I just get so tired of all the Christmas hype. If all the T.V. stations didn't play Christmas commercials even in October, I might not get so tired of it. If it ever snows in NO, then I might have a different opinion of it. ;)

I'll agree. Old songs are awesome.

You and me both. Honestly a week of Christmas music is enough for me after all the music and hype I hear from other places for as long as two months prior to the holidays. Although I wouldn't call myself a grinch since I'm not against Christmas itself. :P
-
Personally, I think Christmas music everywhere should be limited at first with only certain songs that describe the approach of the holiday for December 1-17. By only giving out a few songs, it makes the journey more tolerable. A lot of people forget that Advent is there for a reason. ;) December 18-31 is when I feel there should be the full suite of Christmas songs.

What's that one song that's been played every year? I Saw Three Ships?
-

That seems to be on the playlist every year.
-
"Carol of the Bells" is played every year as well
-
Selections from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" too.

Yup, particularly Linus and Lucy, Christmas Time is Here, and Skating.
-

A better question is what Christmas song hasn't been played every year on the playlist. :P That song you mentioned plus "We Three Kings" and all the others mentioned above show up every year.
-

Aired 1989-1994, 1999-Present.
-

I know I Saw Three Ships and We Three Kings didn't play in 1999 (that year's Christmas playlist was rather boring, with about 10-15 total songs from only 4 artists), but other than that I think it has played every or almost every year since the late 80s or early 90s.
-
However long the list runs this year, I hope they revisit using some songs that played from 2001 - 2004, particularly from Ottmar Liebert. "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" was a pretty good one. Those were the best Christmas playlists from this past decade/century.
-

It plays every year because it is so epic :P
-
We need a good 2 week Christmas Playlist or longer. Preferably December 10-December 26.
-
i agree

I think so too. Better yet, it should last until the end of the year to help cure the post-Christmas blues.

Amen. I say stations and TWC should play Christmas music for the entire month of December or at least through New Years. December 26- Jan 1 is still the holidays for me. After hearing Christmas music since ~Nov15 It's frustrating that I can't hear it when the holidays are actually here!!
-
i asked around on fb to twc meteorologists about when the set would be decorated and the music played dr greg forbes had this to say...(I believe that poinsettias will decorate the set starting about a week before Christmas. I would think that we will play holiday music, but I don't know any details on that.) if we want the play list to start sooner all of you that have facebook request to dr forbes or anyone else at twc to start the playlist earlier

I agree that the Christmas music should start earlier than December 17-18.

I honestly don't get what the hype is with Christmas music on TWC..it's just music

Shouldn't you be saying the same thing about the regular playlists that change and seem to hype up a lot of you? Christmas music is special because it's only going to play during one time of the year and it does happen to put some people into the holiday spirit including me, I'm not as easily dissuaded from hearing it play for more than a week.
-
1st taste of music played @ 3:45pm
-
Yes, but people do not hype up over Regular playlists months ahead of time. For Christmas, you guys are hyping since July and I think it's getting a little ridiculous IMO
-
like the others say its special

For anyone who has contact with personel at TWC, could you ask them to extend the Holiday playlist to 2 weeks, instead of just 1? We hardly even get to hear the music, and then it's gone. Starting the list around the 10th, or even as late as the 15th, would be fine with me, and probably for all of us TWCC/Today members, along with thousands of other TWC fans. Thank you! :)
-
i can try ;)
-
i can try ;)
I think he meant someone like Tyler who has direct contact to TWC employees....

Can't you do that yourself? I guess you can send them an email or something...
-
Even if you try to contact TWC they have no interest in the playlist anyway.
-
I don't think they will do anything to the list. As usual it will start between 1-2 weeks before xmas like the past years
-
With all the playlist woes (bad music, playlists going on too long, etc.), TWC probably wouldn't care about the playlists one way or the other. <_<

And most viewers wouldn't care about the music or the playlists or all that stuff. They would only care about the weather (or longform).
-
TBH, i actually wouldnt mind if they had the list going all month long. it isnt a big deal (well it is but its the same stuff as always anyways  :P) either and complaining wont have it published earlier and earlier.. patience is of essence here ;)
-
Not even the senior meteorologist Stu Ostro knows he said he didint know when i asked him i hope they start it early but as much as TWC has gone down hill over the past few years it wouldnt be a suprise if they didint play Christmas music at all this year
-
Someone please lock this topic already..
-
Does anyone know an e-mail adress for the music coordinator? If so, could you PM it to me, if it's okay and doesn't violate their personal rights.
Why are u that desperate? its just music
Someone please lock this topic already..
I totally agree, an admin should lock this topic to avoid anymore pointless posts.
-
I think the topic should just be as is.. theyre curious if anyone knows when the list will change and perhaps so but the problem is when the curiosity goes towards Mr Picard himself for knowing about list changes
-
I hope they start it sooner than the 18th. I hope they start it around the 15th or 16th. I also hope that "I Saw Three Ships" and "We Three Kings" both by David Arkenstone are on again, as well as, "Holiday Dance" by Michael Colone and "Carol of the Bells" by David Foster.
Back during the classic years, namely the early to mid 90s, they started it around the 10th or 11th but they had a bad habit of playing a mixture of both Christmas and non-Christmas music at the time.
-
Someone please lock this topic already..
Why? I don't really see anything wrong . If anyone thinks a topic should be closed the proper way is to report it and include a message for staff to review.

I hope you know TWC is a huge corporation with hundreds of workers. Asking them on facebook is pointless and a waste of their time. They don't know all the technical details going on behind the scenes (and probably don't care).

i recently got a warning about being rude to you all on this forum and i would like to say to all i may have offended i am so sorry i did not mean to insult anyone or do anything wrong it was just a little bit upsetting to know people did not appriciate what i was doing to help them out with trying to figure out when the holiday music will start.... once again i am very sorry to all of the forum members and i do hope you all forgive me

The only thing I will say is that the Holiday 2010 playlist will start on December 10th and I have received official word regarding this. :)
-
 :thrilled: That's great! Two full weeks!!! It'll finally be a break from this tired playlist.
-
I had images it would start today but at least its sooner than most of the modern lists
-
Awesome! Two weeks is great timing. :)
-
Agreed. 2 weeks should just be enough like 2008's Xmas list. I'm just hoping they don't cut the music right on Christmas day.
-
I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but I contacted TWC on their Comments and Questions part of weather.com and asked for a 2 week holiday playlist, instead of just 6 or 7. (This was about last Tuesday.) If my question was the cause and considered and granted, Thanks TWC! And YES!!! 2 weeks of TWC holiday music!
-
Hmm, it better be a good list. If Holiday dance, I saw three ships, and We three kings (David Arkenstone) arent played then its not a true holiday playlist IMO :club:
-
it will
-
it will
oh i knew :P its just that they seem to take out some stuff and bring back other stuff such as O Little town of Bethlehem returning from a 3-year hiatus in 2009
-
I hope all of the traditional holiday Vince Guaraldi songs are on the list.
Also, I hope "Ice fairies" is played. I love that song, but it hasn't been aired since 2006. I doubt it will this year, though, but hopefully I'll pleasantely surprised...
-
Only one week until the Christmas playlist!
-
yes Dec 10 is better than Dec 18 B)

I agree with that. BTW, the Holiday Dance is by Michael Colone.
