Per a comment on that YouTube video I posted, someone got a reply from Dave Clark via Twitter saying that the Smooth Jazz thing was just a test, but expect a full rollout soon. Still, it kinda seems like a kick in the pants that our adrenaline was pumped up for nothing. <_<

I remember someone tweeted to him a few months and his response was "And if I don't hold back the smooth jazz..:)" Just that was a hint that he was planning to return it.

I seriously hope he keeps to his word though and the regular jazz music comes out "soon".

TWC's Locals on the 8s don't sound the same without jazz music.

Who runs the music there? Why take it off after one day? That makes me even more upset; they're toying with us.
I don't get it either. They say it was a test. What needed to be tested? Either you play it or you don't.

Before I give my thoughts on this, I wanna say if they choose to play nothing but the 24 songs from both smooth jazz CDs for the next couple of years, it will still be a solid playlist with little to no complaints if you ask me.

I'm not surprised about the smooth jazz developments because I think the fact that they brought back a Christmas/Holiday playlist for the first time in 2 years was the first major clue that this was going to happen. Unless I missed any discussion beforehand about it, the holiday playlist returning seemed kinda out of left field back in December.

I also agree that I'm confused about what there is to experiment/test. It's not like TWC has never played this genre of music before. Last time I checked you guys have played smooth jazz music for the better part of nearly THREE decades. I seriously doubt viewers have become sour or turned off by it because of a 2-4 year hiatus.

(I'm pretty sure they're more than likely complaining about the repetition of production music the past couple of years than they ever would about smooth jazz returning.)  ;)

They're testing the viewer response and ratings.  Obviously for something that hadn't been played in five years they'd have to phase it in.. especially for a genre that has declined in popularity in recent years.

Jazz hadn't been on TWC since December 2011, so a little over 4 years. I wouldn't think there were so many complaints for them to yank jazz after a day. I call the "test" B.S.

Either ya play it or don't. I would rather hear the same 24 jazz songs repeated for a year than the ongoing production music crap. Heck, I wouldn't even mind vocals either.

Honestly, how many regular viewers care about the music that's played on the LOT8s anyway?  Especially with the shorter locals, the narrations seem to take up 80% of the time any more, and you can't even hear the music.  And I highly doubt someone is going to turn off the LOT8s because they are so offended that jazz is playing.

Since the vast majority probably doesn't care, they shouldn't be needing to "test" the jazz for feedback. It should be changed, however, because the production songs have been playing for years, and it would be a small step back to classic TWC. A few people I have talked to have personally told me the vocals did not mix well with the intellisar narration due to contrasting voices. Moreover, I find it laughable TWC felt the need to test something like jazz, then take it off as if they were cautious over something that most don't care about. They most obviously do.

Why would one be offended by it?

Well, maybe "offended" wasn't the correct word, but I am not sure why TWC got rid of smooth jazz in the first place.  Were they really losing viewers because jazz was playing on the LOT8s?  I guess I just don't understand how LOT8s music even matters to the average viewer.  Apparently it does if TWC is "testing" all this stuff, but like I said, most of the LOT8s time is taken up by narration anyway (with the exception of the National Feed), and I guess I just can't wrap my head around an average viewer who refuses to watch the LOT8s because they don't like the music that's playing.

When you're in a rush to "rebrand" or re-energize the channel, and are in the mood of changing pretty much anything, the stuffy, old-guard music is probably gonna get the axe. Especially if you have a younger producer or director calling the shots in that department.

FINALLY!!!!!   Hopefully they bring the monthly or bi-monthly playlists back. Also instrumentals along with the jazz. I asked @daveclark on twitter when the jazz will resume but no response.  :hammer:

I wish I had cable to experience this again.
I'd rather listen to Trammell Starks' Music for Local Forecast CDs for 3 years than listen to their production music...
