Yep...they saved the best for last. I'm appalled by this. At least they could dump the 2011 repeats for Dec only and keep the new songs for November, but then again who knows what

I don't get why everyone complains about repeats.

You have no room to talk, sorry to say. (and neither do I, which is why I'm making my point)

Also, Bunny the Bear is a SCREAMO band. Yes, you heard me right. TWC is goin screamo!!?? :worship:

I'm thinking this list will start on November 1, since that's a Tuesday.

Take it easy, guys.  After some very good playlists the past few months, we were due for a below average one if you base it solely on number of repeats.  That's just how it goes.
Title: Re: November/December 2011 playlist
Post by: TampaMillTWC88 on October 28, 2011, 11:12:17 PM
There are sure a lot of repeats here.  :whistling: I guess this is some kind of a best of 2011 list, but it also seems to be a best of November/December list too, because a few songs have been used in those previous lists during those months. I am disappointed in the daytime list, because there are no new songs, and a few of the songs are better suited for overnight and primetime. Surprisingly, the primetime list looks good. There are some songs worth hearing again like Enchanted, Love of Strings and the Wave. I even like hearing Blue Sky again. The classical jazz songs like Straight No Chaser and Freddie Freeloader do sound fitting for this time of year, and kind of set the mood for the holidays. First Snow and the Home Alone Theme are obvious choices for this time of year. But like Phw said, this was the best year for playlists we have had since maybe 2008, so one recycled/best of list could be tolerated.  :itsok:

yes, you are right. The playlists this year weren't very full of repeats like last year. I guess this list just made it up but like some other users have said, I believe this a best-of list. Similiar ot 2008, they are using best of songs from this year and from the past 2 years along with some new songs. But I don't get it, because they are repeating songs anyways. Would've been just wise to recycle those songs for other playlists, as I doubt TWC had this much issues assembling an actual playlist.

Likewise, I expect the Holiday Playlist to play for most of December. If anything, we'd hear only 1 and a half to 2 weeks worth of playlist music for December. So it makes it up in a way.

Nope. In fact, I don't even have Office. It's just a trial. Since discovering OpenOffice years ago, I've never seen a need for Office. Anyway, your download worked. Thanks!

I actually like this list. Many of the repeats are songs that I really liked, especially "Monolith" from Maserati and "Together We Will Conquer" by Ryan Farish. I expected the song from Home Alone, but that song always fits well with this time of year.

I'm not sure how the whole L-bar thing will play out, and frankly, I don't care, but I do hope to hear the primetime songs often because I think that those are my favorite for this playlist.

All in all, I like it. The playlists have been surprisingly pleasant for me the past year and a half or so.

I'm liking the return of Lily Was Here and Supernova to the playlist. And Fly by 7and5 is good as well, although I don't think I've heard that one on Local on the 8s.

I wonder why. I think that's a cool song, and it was played at a time in my life when I was having many good experiences. Summer 2010 was something else...lol. I guess I'm unique that way.

Hope the list starts soon!

Actually, it started at 7:18 ET with Night Drive. Either way, they're good songs to start off the list. :)

Home Alone Theme @ 7:38 ET, with slightly different cut from December 2010.

It would be a better playlist to me if the repeats were songs not played in several years (excluding RF) instead of several months ago. Like "Monoliths", I disliked it the first time, I loathed it the second and third time, and I absolutely hate it's back again the fourth time around. You can throw "Green Onions" in there too.

Me too. I do like some of the classic repeats like Together We Will Conquer and Enchanted but if it's a best of playlist, then I can understand the 2011 repeats but seriously, Straight No Chaser, Green Onions, Monoliths, Love of Strings and Supernova for the umpteenth time? O_o

It's like some sort of a best of November and December list too, because several songs played in those months in prior playlists. For instance, The Wave played Nov 07, Dec 08, and Dec 10, Push and Lily Was Here both played Oct/Nov 10, the Home Alone Theme played Nov/Dec 09 and Dec 10, Straight No Chaser played Dec 08 and Oct/Nov 10, and First Snow, Come Undone, On the Edge and Color Tour each played in Dec 10. I do like hearing Love of Strings again BTW.

Best: Craig Chaquico - Native Tongue
Worst: Thelonois Monk - Straight No Chaser

Primetime:
Best: Ryan Farish - Enchanted, The Bunny the Bear - C'est Pas Si Loin
Worst: Supernova, Monoliths, Chillaxin

Maybe because the movie itself was more associated with Christmas? Kinda surprised they haven't thought about throwing it on a Christmas playlist.

Personally, I didn't see a problem in playing a couple Christmas-associated songs at the beginning of November.  ;) It kind of gets you in the mood for the holiday season. I'm surprised that it apparently created such an uproar that TWC would take it off the playlist, and Eric would tweet about it.  :dunno: I guess some people don't want to be in the holiday spirit yet.

Morning
Best: Ryan Farish - Together We Will Conquer
Worst: Booker T & MGs - Green Onions (surprising, eh? :D)

Daytime
Best: None, all the songs are average to me for the most part.
Worst: Eric Marienthal - Rendezvous (too summery of a song)

Primetime
Best: Ryan Farish - Enchanted; Searching
Worst: Moby - Living (too depressing)

Overnight
Best: Nicholas Grey - Peripheral Vision
Worst: None

Wow, I just realized Wizards in Winter is not on the list. I've always liked that song..

Has anyone ever heard that primetime Bunny the Bear song on a 2 minute local?

EDIT: I take that back, because the above video was captured during WUWA

I heard the Home Alone theme along with Carol of the Bells at the beginning of the playlist.

Carol of the Bells is not on the playlist.

The Bunny the Bear song, for some miracle, was playing on WUWA during the 2 minute LF's all last week. I was able to catch one of the clips since this song never plays during the 2 mins on primetime. Also, has anyone heard "White Water" by Matthew Shuman on the 2 min LF during the morning hours? I have not heard it at once. Perhaps this may explain:

Quote
Hi Victor,

There is no reasoning for that song to miss the 2 minute locals – it is just the luck of the draw. The new Sourcebook plays through the entire set of 10 songs in order, then re-shuffles and plays them in order again.  The old sourcebook re-picked from the pool of 10 songs for every local, so the same track would often repeat back to back.

Each song only plays about 2 or 3 times every night, and since there are fewer 2 minute locals during prime time (the :28 and :58s in Prime are usually 1 minute).  Just for fun, our team pulled today’s programming log – and the song in question (02332 below) is playing at the 6:58 PM local. So you will be hearing it.

Thanks,

Melissa

Wow, so songs go in order now?! :o

As for the 6:58 local, depending on whether SD viewers have an IntelliStar, they wouldnt be able to hear it unless the LF was sponsored

The The Bunny The Bear song on the primetime has been playing on WUWA (during the morning)? Why are they playing primetime music on the morning? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question...

WUWA has a different profile in the music system and loops any track from the playlist as a whole.

I wonder if this is why they aren't doing flavor specific songs anymore... I kinda liked that. :hmm:

This playlist will currently run throughout the month of January according to TWC, the next list is February/March 2012.

This playlist is not that good to be running that long.  Far too many repeats.

The average TWC viewer couldnt care less anyways.. also, it seems logical considering how the list has only roughly had a month's worth of airtime due to the Christmas/Holiday playlist running through 75% of December.

And it's possible that the musical staff need this extra month to find new songs so that a good quality playlist can be released in February 2012.  It's a ton of work to come up with new playlists that have so many songs, which have so many legal hurdles that you have to jump over these days to play them.

I acutally don't mind that it'll continue. I still like the playlist. :)

You guys would've hated the 90s. The same playlist ran for at least three months and you'd be lucky to have 30 songs on the playlist.

Yes, but unlike today, the 90s had 15+ songs that were memorable and worth listening to. Not so much the case now. I don't mind if twc actually does get into the habit of quarterlies, as long as the playlists have excellent music, that's all that matters.

In the late 90s, there were only like 10 songs per quarterly playlist.

I heard some song by Linkin Park, I believe. The three songs I heard were almost heavy metal. I hope jazz didn't disappear again, because jazz just seems to suit a forecast much more than a loud song.

Something seems a little out-of-the-blue. Just hope they throw some familiar jazzy tunes in somewhere if this is indeed a new playlist.

Well, whatever experimentation was going on seems to have ceased as I am hearing "No More Sages" by Maserati, a familiar song.

Christina, are you sure those heavy metal songs werent "C'est Pas Si Loin" or "396.17" by The Bunny The Bear? Also, I doubt you heard "No More Sages", that isnt on the list, however "Monoliths" is

Monoliths @ :18 btw

Whoa, were they always on the playlist? I haven't heard anything by Bunny the Bear since this playlist started, so it must be a rare one...

I just heard "Monoliths," too. I heard some song that is somehow making me think it's from Maserati; it came on before "Monoliths." What the heck am I thinking of? Lol.

Other people were fooled into thinking a new playlist started also.
