I just saw a 'Heat Safety Tips' screen on my IntelliStar. Is this a new product, are maybe a discontinued product that has returned?

No, it's old I remember seeing it on the IS back in August 2007 during a heatwave here.

Was it discontinued for a while maybe? This is my first time seeing it.

I dont think it was discontinued.. it just depends on the priority of products

By doing a quick YouTube search of "Heat Safety Tips IntelliStar" I found that the last recorded HST screen was on August 1, 2006, on the Downtown Hanover IntelliStar. Now, some of you might have seen it in 2007 or later as you said, but this was the last recording of it that I could find on YouTube.

For those interested, here is a video.

It would not surprise me if they boosted the priority of the screen because of the massive heatwave occurring.
-
It was never discontinued. The product is triggered differently in all areas based on what is considered to be an "extreme" heat index. For example, the screen may be triggered at 102 here in Pittsburgh, but that threshold may be higher in New York City, and lower in Seattle.
-
103 is the heat index for it here, but I've never seen it since 2006, and we've had heat indices higher than that since then. I think Matt might be right here...
-
I checked the :58 LF, where Trevor saw his, and have not seen a Heat Safety Tips screen, and the heat index is 105° which is above the HI that triggers the screen (103°).

I just saw another one at 3:58 PM CT (the exact same time I saw it yesterday). I haven't seen it on any other LF except for the 3:58 PM CT. Maybe it only runs on this LF because it's around the hottest part of the day?
EDIT: Looks like Mike already checked the 3:58 PM CT LF on his STAR, so that rules out the above theory. I hate to jump the gun here, but maybe it's being beta tested on a few STARs, since no one else is seeing it but me?

I remember seeing this feature on our Intellistar back in 2006.

Why would it be beta tested? It's been a product on the IS since (I'm pretty certain) it's inception. Although, I've personally never witnessed it ever appear on my IS (but I've seen plenty of videos of it).

I also noticed that LF you posted yesterday had an unusual flavor that I've never seen in mine.

I've seen it in the past few days. Not sure why you aren't seeing it Mike.

I'm just throwing theories out there...lets all check the 4:58 PM ET LF today, and we'll see if we see it.

I should have mentioned we've had record highs here... that might be why I'm not seeing it.

Probably. The priority of the record screen probably supersedes the heat safety screen.
-
i didn't see it when New Bedford hit 102 maybe because of the marine and tides? (1 minute LF didn't show it either)
