Are there plans for a new intellistar version to be launched seeing now that the LDL, and icons were updated and the launch of the HD Star soon?
-
I hope so, that would be a good thing.

I think I can safely say there will be no significant software updates to the current hardware version of the Intellistar anytime soon if ever
-
well it's been nearly 3 years since the v3 update. The v3 was launched after the 2005 v2 update

Just because its been X years doesn't mean they are going to update it. The Intellistar1 probably saw its last major update with the ldl changes.

But I thought the IS was going to have a graphics change last year or this spring?

It did. The LDL was the graphics change

Well it should've been more specific...as the majority thought it was the hardware

What do you mean specific? There was never even a rumor of new hardware so that is news to me. However like I said, the current hardware version of the Intellistar now, probably has seen the last of its significant updates
-
This is off topic, but what's been with all the IS outages recently? :dunno: And could the Satellite ISs be effected?

The reason I was saying was because the other updates liek the LDL and icons happened in short timing of the previous updates. I figured the Intellistar would've gotten one too. It seems that the IS could use another graphics overhaul anyways but that may just be me

i was just going to ask the same question because alot of people are posting about this on TWC's Facebook page.

yea i was figuring out why there is a nationwide STAR outage. Star 21897 is out as well

My IntelliStar has been fine, but I noticed a lot of others being out.
-
My ISTAR is fine.......

You have been making a lot of off topic posts lately. Please be mindful of this and post in the right area. Your post here resulted in many posts that were off topic and completely irrelevant of the topics original subject

The topic was actually the reason I asked because I doubt many ISs nationwide would all be going out for nothing unless TWC's doing some sort of maintenance on them.

Then why did you say it was off topic? It clearly was and did not have any relevance to this topic. You doubt many systems would go out nationally for nothing? Outages and systems issues are not unheard of. Warnings will be issued for future off topic activity.

I'm actually glad there shouldn't be any more changes to the IntelliSTAR, as I think it's now perfect the way it is. I am curious, though, as ti what the next thing after the IntellISTAR will be because it can't stay around forever. That could be another several years or so, of course.

It's funny how not even the XL is anywhere near showing signs of degradation, and it is now older than the 4000 was when degradation began being reported. Thing is, both the XL and the Intellistar were built to last, and they most likely will for quite some time. I too like the Intellistar, but especially with the new LDL, I don't think TWC is using the Intellistar to the best of its capabilities.

yeah, you're right - they're pushing it past it's capabilities...

No, that's the exact opposite of what I meant. I was saying that the Intellistar is not used to its fullest capabilities.

and i'm sticking to what I said...in reality they're actually pushing it.
-
Al is correct - they began pushing it's limits with the implementation of the blue LDL in 2008.
-
Yeah, the blue LDL I would definitely agree was pushing the limits, so to speak. But this new LDL...
-

They definitely are putting a decent strain on it to churn out whats it doing now. Quite impressive

This LDL is pushing the limits even further than the blue LDL.

Yeah, especially the animated icons and that little white line below the orange bar that moves to the left and right.

The XL and IS have a hard drive with graphics stored on them. The 4000 has everything in its memory boards which are dusty and falling apart by now. With an XL or IS its all or nothing.

When the HD Star rolls out, will it run alongside an exisiting IS? If that's the case, do you think the IS would get a new look to the LOT8 to match whatever the HD Star looks like?

Yes and no
-
If they can roll out the new LDL, the least they can do is change the darn fonts on the rest of the LF to match the on-air fonts.
-
While on the subject of fonts, maybe they could make them so that they are user-friendly- the forecast title/CC site name(s), the numbers, and the forecast data on the text based are all black. This was one reason I prefered the previous background the Intellistar had.

dark font on a light background... can't get much more user friendly than that. The contrast is also there for eyesight impaired viewers too.
-
Not exactly what I was referring to, Jesse.

I still have no clue why they went with that theme for the new ldl.Not exactly what I was referring to, Jesse.
What did you mean? :dunno:
-
Well here's what I meant. As Jesse said, yeah, you can clearly see that the text is there, being that the text is black and it's on a faint blue/white background. But that's where the user-friendliness stops. It's all black. Even I (being someone who notices even the slightest of details) inadvertently pass my eye over everything from time to time. In the old days, you had the forecast title/CC site name/almanac title in yellow, with all other numbers/text in white.
-
So what color do you want them to make it? Most colors won't look good with the current design.

Maybe it's just me, but although I do miss the old version, I can read everything just fine on the current version.

Yes, that's the reason they changed it to black - because it was easy to read. They got tons and tons of complaints that the blue on blue was too difficult to read.
-

HOT PINK! Problem solved. Thank me later TWC B)

Lol, I think I'd want to make a date with the Intellistar if it were that color.

Well, I will be getting a little off topic on the font part, but I personally think that they can redesign the LF to correspond with the new LDL bar. I wouldn't have any problems with a graphic set upgrade, but the current version is fine. I'd just like to see them push the units hardware even more, and I know it is possible. I would say, however, I do not like the header which is white over white (Or if my mind is in a cruise right now) black over white is fine. The contrast levels with the white and white/light blue hurts my eyes.
But basicly I think that TWC should go ahead and redesign the LF template. Hey, it wouldn't hurt. But I am also ok with the current version :itsok:

It actually is being pushed quite a bit at the moment. I do wish the ldl matched the on air designs more than anything really. It still is a strange match with graphics packages varying widely over each product.
