I've been hearing new songs on the HD LF's while on the standard they're not playing them yet. I just heard "11, 12, 13" by David Holmes. This has got to be the start of the the incorporation of the new playlist. The two songs that I heard are very good, in my opinion. Good contemporary music, I mean. I was not able to identify the one at 5:48 CST, though, and a Linkin' Park song aired on both the HD and standard-definition at 5:58.
I think this is my first topic started...haha. I hope this isn't all just a false alarm but I'm pretty sure I'm hearing the start of a new playlist.
-
Jazzless, I bet you
-
Rushing at :28, everloving - moby :48, white castle blues :58
-
Daydreamer - Bobby Arnold - 10:28am
-
No, Everloving played at 1028. Ur probably listen to the emergency feed music on SD

yea, the IS must be playing the EF, i still got the DVR set to see if any new songs pop on.
-
Behind The Sun Instrumental - Red Hot Chili Peppers @ :18 on HD
-
Interesting, the HD feed is showing problems too. Hearing Anthem of Hope and Station
-
Yeah this is the emergency feed music not a new list
-
Anyone hear that song that played around 1:48pm et today? I only heard about the last 10 seconds of it. It sounds pretty good.
EDIT: I don't know if this makes a difference, but I heard it on the HD feed.
-
There was a new song at 3:48 pm ET while fireworks played at :58
-
Tavores, it's the red hot chili peppers song. Zach, "I will possess your heart" by death cab for cutie

It was in the May/June primetime list last year.
My mind is out of whack right now. The song I was thinking of was Footsteps. :pinch: Sorry for the confusion.

-
Well, I still haven't heard as much of the list as I wanted, but I heard some rock-sounding songs. Not too much jazz so far, but I'm still glad for signs of a new playlist. I was getting very tired of the old one.
-
Patrick Droney - Everything at :08 (Used previously on the Oct 09 and March 10 playlists).
-
Patrick Droney - Everything at :08 (Used previously on the Oct 09 and March 10 playlists).
What a coincidence.. I had that song in my head the other day pondering when TWC would use it again (same with The Other Side too)
-
$160 Million Chinese Man by David Holmes from 9/09 at :58. The :18 LF was "Night After Sidewalk" by Kaki King, and :38 Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart
-
I wish Dave Grusin, David Benoit, Kenny G and the Ripps were back on the LF. maybe im asking for too much :P

This playlist is somewhat better. I like most of the songs featured so far (even Kaki King and Patrick Droney which most people hate lol).
-
Moby - Look Back In played earlier too (love this song)
-
Saturday 1:18pm ET Depeche Mode "Never Let Me Down Again" [Aggro Mix]
The song played twice at 4:28 and 4:38pm ET Sunday.
Is there any check in the music playback system to make sure songs don't repeat?
-
From the few I've heard this seems like it'll be a heck of a lot better than the previous list. Except for a couple of annoying holdover ones that played from the previous list. <_<
-
Yeah that LInkin Park song is it bit to much and should be rotated out of the list.
-
It's somewhat of an improvement from the last playlist. Still needs some jazz in it though.
I never though "I Will Posses Your Heart" by Death Cab for Cutie would be picked up. I wonder if it's the long intro in their full album version.
-
So far, my favorite songs in this list are the RHCP song and I Will Posses Your Heart.
-
That Linkin Park song needs to go!
-
Hopefully the transition issues are fixed tomorrow, and well hear more songs then

nice I hope they play I will possess your heart again! I really like when they play what I got by Sublime B)

Oh my, havent we had enough of that song already on TWC? :bang: :P
-
The Linkin Park is still on the playlist and songs seem to be playing all day instead of having separate playlists for different day parts.
-

The playlist may still be incomplete which is why Jan/Feb 2012 playlist songs are still mixed in.
-
I hope the playlist still isn't complete yet. I don't despise the Linkin' Park song, but I feel that it's past its due. 4 months of that song would get old.
I didn't want to bump an old topic, and since it's relevant to this month, does anyone know where I can find the instrumental version of Patrick Droney's "Everything"? I think it's wonderful.
-
looks like i'm going to listen to wavjazz and most of the shoutcast smooth jazz radio stations to get my jazz fix. and i won't be surprised if this switch to new genres doesn't last very long.
-
In case anyone wants a refresher, I emailed TWC for a playlist and got nothing back, not even a reply about the song rotation issue, so the full playlist might not come out (if not during primetime today like with the Jan playlist) until sometime next week. What I don't understand is if they're having so many issues finding nonjazz songs for the march playlist, then why can't they just let the January/Feb playlist run for the rest of this month?
-
Sorrow is on the list? its playing at 6:58 ET now

That's just the Smooth Jazz removal biting TWC in the rear end :bleh:

Hopefully the playlist's official start is in the cards for early April.
-
/me can confirm that Running Out of Time by Matthew Shuman is airing in the overnight daypart.
-
Has anybody received any word about a playlist being released yet?
-

nothing yet on my end.
-
I looked at a DVD recording from yesterday morning just now and Come into my World played at 4:28 AM ET and Your Hand In Mine at 4:58
-
at this rate we might as well change the thread title to "Incomplete April/May 2012 Playlist"
-
I wonder why it's now seemingly a hassle to update the music. I'm very happy the music was changed, even if the list
is incomplete.
-

There could be tons of reasons why the playlist hasn't offically started (TWC music team is having copyright problems, picky genre selection, determining duration of playlist, etc.)
but it shouldn't take 2 months to create a new playlist all you have to do is look at 2000 - early 2009 for monthly playlists.
also like i posted before if TWC really wanted to fix the playlist issues all they really have to do is return to a monthly format before April 2009 and we wouldn't be confused if this is a new playlist or not.
-
Hopefully TWC chooses to use Slow Jams in future playlists, one can dream
-
Hopefully TWC chooses to use Slow Jams in future playlists, one can dream
I think they could use some hip hop instrumentals too. :D
-
On the 1am WCL I did not hear any rock music tracks used.
Heard a piano instrumental "Avril 14th" and the country sounding "Sundance".
At 1:58am "Change Your World" re appeared.
I wonder if WCL at 7pm and 10pm not using music at :18 and :38 when the LDL Squeezeback is on is messing up the playlist.
1am the LDL Squeezeback is not used.
-
It's somewhat of an improvement from the last playlist. Still needs some jazz in it though.
I think 160 Million Dollar Chinese Man is about the closest there is to a jazz song.
-

I totally disagree with that. Any new age song on the list is closest to jazz IMO. There are a bit of Moby songs on the playlist and the one Matthew Shuman song.
-
Linkin Park will not go away. The song added to the evening playlist in February was played at 11:58am.

I know you may "totally disagree", but considering that is the only song with a sax on it, it does not sound too dissimilar from some songs you might hear on a smooth jazz station. I agree that the new age songs also sound smooth jazz-like too.
-

There was a song added to primetime in February? I know "Rushing" by Moby was added to the morning but wasnt aware a new song got added to primetime as well
As for the Linkin Park song.. its been stated multiple times that the list is incomplete and that no official word on a playlist has been made
-
Can one of our TWC "insiders" perhaps hook up with someone and see when a playlist is going to be released?
-
I've been told that playlists have been discontinued for the time being. Music will be changed occasionally as a new group is looking to change the music
-
I've been told that playlists have been discontinued for the time being. Music will be changed occasionally as a new group is looking to change the music
Looks like your getting more insider info than i am, playlist discontinued sounds a little harsh but i'm not surprised they went in that direction.
the most logical way would be to use whatever songs they have in the computer from previous playlists and years instead of repeating the same 20 odd songs every day, they're making an easy transition harder than it really is.
-
couldnt care any less about playlists..most TWC music from 2010 on is garbage. stopped caring when NBC took over
-
In my opinion, twc has been shooting themselves in the foot. The playlists IMO were the last saving grace to the network but overall they are on a decline to the non-average viewer. I agree from mid 2009 onwards the playlists were awful and we"ll never see monthly jazz playlists anymore. I wish there was another cable weather station that would play music like that on their forecast segments but I doubt if there's capacity for another all-weather station to tap in the US market. With the loss of jazz, regular playlists and fewer local forecasts, there's really no point for me to watch twc anymore. I don't know if it's worth making test playlists either because it's nowhere near the same as actually hearing them on the lf :(

I agree. They are so arrrogant and borderline reckless in their attempt to push through this anti-jazz agenda at all costs. <_<
-
Its upsetting that almost 13 years of my twc viewership has come to this. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the current playlists. If it ain't broke why fix it?
-
I didn't think that the 2010 and 2011 playlists were bad at all. In fact, 2011 was a very jazzy playlist. 2012 has been depressing. At some point, if someone can ever find out, I would like to know the reasoning behind the removal of the monthly playlists. It's been TWC's thing almost since they first began the network, and I too see no reason to stop it. And for all the people who say, "Boohoo, it's just music--quit complaining!" are ignorant because music is appealing to everyone.
TWC is making a huge unnecessary mess over the music. Heck, one of us could pick out at least 50 good songs right off the bat. It's not hard to do, and a network as big as TWC should have plenty of resources to do it.
-
I would like to know the reasoning behind the removal of the monthly playlists. It's been TWC's thing almost since they first began the network
Actually, monthly playlists didnt come into play (no pun intended) until 2000.
-
Really? Whoops, please pardon my own ignorance on that issue.
-
its funny how they decided to change the music now, what's next? top 40 instrumentals?
-
I pretty much agree what a few of you said. The music in TWC is officially dead to me and I'm only going to check the weather on their website now. My 9 years of watching TWC is over now. :(
-
Speaking of "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab for Cutie, here's the Album Version of the Music Video.

Man, who wants to hear rock and country music on TWC? :hammer: The TWC music department really does not seem to have a good taste anymore, nor do they care.

I agree, its a massive trainwreck and off to a disastrous start.
-
Blame upper management. Picard can't do anything. It's upper management who makes these decisions
-
again, that's why I quit caring. I came to the realization that jazz and new age arent coming back, so i will focus on TWC music from 1986-2009

Yeah, I only casually listen now. The times I listen, I only seem to hear about 7 of the same songs.

Actually new age isn't affected. And I thought the jazz songs in the playlists from 2009 - 2011 were really good but as many people have stated, it's not worth pondering over this anymore. I guess I can make a test playlist or two just for listening enjoyment
-
A song I've not heard before "Titans" (Distant Fragment Remix) by Kosmas Epsilon played at 7:28pm ET.
Is this a new song to the playlist or recycling of old songs?
-
They're adding some more new songs for April according to Melissa. Also, anyone else hear any new songs? I heard Cliffs of Dover earlier this afternoon

Foster the People? WTF?!?
-
Zach, If that's the only vocal song playing in the morning hours then that was probably it. To be honest, I wasn't paying that much attention to it because I was doing something else, I just heard some vocals.
-
A Linkin Park song "Nest" from the Transformers Sound Track played at 7:18pm ET.
This song is worse then some of the techno sounding Tron sound track songs they have used.
It's a very strange song that in my opinion does not fit the Local On The 8's.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (The Original Score) - NEST (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4gngu-7fDY#)
If this is the best they can do then it's time to bring the smooth jazz back to the playlist.
-
I wish we can get as many people at once to complain. However, Melissa is useless for this situation. I believe only the head of programming is responsible for this change. Second, where's the Ryan Farish and Chris Geith?
-
Ryan Farish went over to the emergency feed :P
-
Here's 2 of the songs I've heard
4/11
11:18am - Da Funk - Daft Punk
1:28pm - New Divide (Remix) Instrumental - Linkin Park
if they appear again tomorrow i'll upload them.

This has gotten beyond ridiculous. They are so arrogrant and borderline reckless in their attempt to shun jazz, and play this top-40 stuff and rock music. They really don't care anymore. It wouldn't surprise me to hear Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber added. I mean from 2009 to 2011, they had enough this pop/country/rock in the morning, primetime and a little bit overnight. Just one little daypart for jazz in the daytime, even though it wasn't quite enough, it was satisfying. But TWC obviously thought the all-rock lineup in 09, and the vocals from WUWA were such successes, they decided to bring them back and combine the two. <_<

The best song might be Widespread Panic, who were used during the golden age of TWC. But an instrumental should have been used, if there was one available.

Do you know if there are anymore songs besides the 10 Alex and Daniel posted? What about the rotation for the songs that aired last month? Which dayparts they playing now?

Dayparts? I never knew those still existed! :P
Anyways, no i have not.. in fact i havent even heard all of the songs even mentioned by Alex

It sounds new to the playlist to me. Has it been played before?

No, it never played before. It's not even BMI registered. I also recorded the daytime playlist, and Da Funk is no longer in the rotation. Has it been removed from the playlist?

She's been on WUWA in the past.. I have a clip of her song "Satellite" on my Youtube account
-
It's good that some of you guys are taking TWC's new music selections well. In the past, their introduction to new genres weas conservative with only instrumentals being chosen. Now, however, they're going all out and using vocals, and I don't predict smooth jazz back this time. It seems as though most of us have come to peace with that, though.
I hope new music is chosen for May. Also, please throw "New Divide" out! It's not terrible, but it's been playing since January.
Also, since it's not necessarily a jazz song, if TWC selected Ryan Farish's "Oasis," then I would instantly love any new playlist, no matter how many vocal, metal, or rock music they select.
-
I heard another vocal song sometime today during the 9:00 hour.
-
Beyonce on TWC?! I love Beyonce, but her music on the LOT8s just sounds weird. Was it an instrumental?
It wasn't a instrumental. It definitely had vocals, it was "Wishing On a Star."
ugh! This crap doesn't belong on TWC!
We wouldn't be complaining if this version was playing

It's good that some of you guys are taking TWC's new music selections well.

Precisely.

Frankly, I'm still shocked some of you even use TWC as your only source of music. There are plenty of other ways to find smooth jazz and other non-vocal songs that you're deeming as the only suitable music for a LF. TWC was never meant to be a music channel but rather a weather channel. All of us should be thankful that they even bothered to have music at all during the past 30 years!

TWC exposed me to genres of music I had never really heard or listened to. If before January 2000 you asked me what type of music I listened to I would have told you Rap, R&B, and Hip Hop because that's what I grew up around hearing as a kid. I didn't know what Smooth Jazz was as a 7 year old and I didn't have any interest in it until I started hearing artists like The Rippingtons, Pat Metheny, Spyro Gyra, etc. and then I thought, "Wow, this is nice!" I remember how the first time when I was 7 and I heard Linus and Lucy play during a snowstorm, I was thinking "Hey, it's the Charlie Brown Song! They're playing the Charlie Brown Song!" I would immediately start dancing and humming the song everytime it played. If there was nothing on that day, I would purposely leave it on TWC just so I could hear it again. It's weird to think back on it now, but back then I was so amused by all the different types of music I was hearing month after month and year after year. Now I could care less because I'm well aware of how I can find other songs and artists in relation to not only Smooth Jazz, but Soft Rock, Techno, etc. that made me more versatile to music.
If I could, I would severely punish the person or persons responsible for getting rid of smooth jazz and Trammell and replacing them with s :censored: y music. Who here agrees with me?
It depends, will the consequence involve me going to prison? I don't want to have to spend years behind bars next to a cellmate referring to me as his "wife." :P
-
Just be happy TWC hasn't went the TWN rout and had 1 LF song playing daily :pinch:

I was exposed to smooth jazz as I knew it around late 1996/early 1997 by tuning in to the now-defunct WSJT 94.1, but I had already liked the music played on TWC since like 1995, without knowing exactly what it was. I have vivid memories of the songs by Kenny G, Trammell Starks, David Reinstein, Chris Camozzi, Craig Peyton, Torcauto Mariano, etc. But TWC and radio surely exposed me to the genre, and helped me to really appreciate it too. It was cool to hear songs that played on radio also on TWC, and vice versa. I remember a guy named Tom Sanchez would talk about songs like Brian Hughes being heard on TWC, and I think he had a crush on Jeanetta Jones. :P I had sent an email of a list of songs I heard on TWC to be played on the radio, including Suede and St. Elsewehere. As it turns out, about a year later, I heard Suede, and shortly after that, St. Elsewhere was being used. Right now, there are only maybe 4-5 songs I like right now. TWC has made up its mind to shun anything even remotely associated with smooth jazz, and it is mind boggling and sad. Indie jazz and new age artists will no longer get the major exposure they previously got. I am concerned that with the new musical direction, standards like Linus and Lucy won't be back Christmas time, but instead there will be a bunch of country, and rock and vocal music instead. :hmm:

1:18 - Chasing Pavements - Adele
-
Oh, God. It's hard to believe Jay Soto's "The Groove Merchant" played only one year ago.
I don't despise the songs they play, but I hear Adele on the radio enough. Fact is fact--TWC is not a source of jazz, and I will have to look elsewhere.

1:18 - Chasing Pavements - Adele
The song played at 9:08am and 9:28am ET.
Can they at least keep the songs from repeating in the same hour?
Phish "If I Could" is back in the playlist at 4:28pm ET
-
They've gone to vocals ck
I wish those songs with vocals would go away.
I like the Eric Johnson song.
-
1:28am "Rushing" Moby

From Steve Windham
Thanks for your question Alex, Vocal Music is part of a new direction. We are in the process of exploring what other music types we want to add to our existing Local on the 8s music playlists.

At least do what TWC did from April-October 2009... have a dayparted forecast that consists of mostly rock and electronic with 3-5 jazz songs sprinkled in. That didn't hurt ratings at all during the summer of that year. I even pointed this out to the press people at TWC but haven't heard back from them yet.
-
I think I heard a new song at 3:28am CDT... I don't know what it was, but I don't think I have heard it before.. I can say that much.

Vocal, I'm assuming?

Nope. No vocals.

I know what's he talking about. I have a clip of it from Yuesday but haven't had the chance the upload it yet

4:18pm ET "Whatever It Is" Zac Brown Band.
Again, stop with the vocal music. Just stop!
What's the URL where we contact TWC and complain about the music?

They may as well disable vocal local on the IS/IS2 now... <_<
They could incorporate what the XL does by cutting off the music during narration even with vocal music, but I don't know if it's possible to tweak that setting on the IS/IS2.

Complaining repeatedly about it here will do you no good, so stop it. Take it elsewhere.

That topic is just for voting. Try emailing Melissa or use the contact form page on the website to provide feedback. Nothing we can do here on the forums though

The XL doesn't use narration anymore since earlier this year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather_Star_XL#Timeline)
January 25, 2012 - Vocal local has been disabled on all STAR XLs nationwide. It is unknown if this was an intentional change or not.
-
On the IS the the music is lowered enough when the forecast voice plays that it does not interfere that much.
Not sure how it is on the HD channel, we don't have the IS2 on TWC HD and get the national LF.

The IS2 doesn't lower it significantly and the vocal music could still be heard clearly in background. http://goo.gl/QKIxi (http://goo.gl/QKIxi)

They really need to check the song rotation schedule.
The same song played 6:58am, 7:08am, 8:58am, 9:08am, 9:28am ET and another song was played at 7:28 & 7:48am.
A new song at 4:08pm ET "Bless the Broken Road" Rascal Flatts.
-
Even though there is no monthly playlist any more I'll keep updating when new songs are played.
New today
9:18am "Music of The Sun" Rihanna
9:28am "Prayin' for Daylight" Rascal Flatts
9:59am "Shut Your Eyes" Snow Patrol
-
They should play Please Don't Stop the Music or Rude Boy by Rihanna. I love those songs

Since we're already well into May, would someone come up with a better title for this thread? I think we may need to have "Current March-December 2012 Playlist" at this rate.

I would suggest First Half 2012 Playlist.

I would suggest First Half 2012 Playlist.
That's good enough for me. It's been done. ;)

Is that Red Hot Chili Peppers song still on the playlist? It was one of the very few songs I liked.
-

I remember Stephanie Abrams did a interview on WUWA with one of the band members, and the guy asked Stephanie if they could get a song by them during the Local Forecast. Looks like Stephanie really took care of that when she said she would!
From what I understand, I think all this playlist confusion will get fixed once they decide what kind of music they want to air on the Local Forecasts. I don't expect this to last until December. It's just music, for Pete's sake. They'll figure out soon enough what they want to play.
-

Yes.

The only instrumentals that remain on the playlist are the RHCP song, I Will Possess Your Heart, and that Daft Punk song.

Did you modify all 150 replies one by one, or do they automatically get retitled now when you change the topic title?

Daft Punk? I thought that "Da Funk" was removed? Do you mean "Never Let Me Down Again (Aggro Mix)" by Depeche Mode?
Also, I still hear Nest, If I Could, Cliffs of Dover play and the 3 Moby songs too
-

I did a little trick. ;) I split Alex's post from this topic to make a separate new one with the correct title, and I then merged the two topics back together but forced the title of the merged topic to be the one I just made.

Finally received playlists for March, April, and May 2012. March and April are in separate tabs on the first spreadsheet. I was also told that the June playlist will start late this week.

Hey, look at the bright side...they're starting on time!

Mike, I merged your thread back into the preexisting one that we had going for the past couple months, but I changed the subject title to what you have so that everything makes sense now. ;)
-
I wonder which genres will be in the June playlist.
-
Vocals and pop as usual. Would be a miracle if they slip an rf or 7and5 tune in there
-
i wouldn't mind hearing Barry White again or even some R&B and Soul from the 80s or 90s.
-
Hey, the return of playlists is nice...period. Ryan Farish isn't necessarily jazz, so maybe we haven't seen the last of him yet!
The times will need to be adjusted, though. LF's aren't 2 minutes anymore--currently, anyway.
-

Me too.
-
Even if it's just all instrumentals regardless of genre, I'd still be happy at this point...
-
Me too. I rather hear instrumentals than vocals
-
I heard an instrumental version of "Take on Me" by A-Ha his morning.
-
New adds today,
7:18am "She Says" Howie Day
7:28am "Ours" Taylor Swift
7:38am "Take on me" a-Ha (Instrumental version)
1:38am "Love" Collective Soul
Yeah, they're being discussed in this thread (https://twctodayforums.com/forums/local-forecast/june-2012-playlist) now since a new list has debuted
-
IceManNYR, go ahead and post those new songs to the June playlist thread Zach linked above. We've pretty much finished off this thread as May is over. Thanks! B)
-
Ok.
