Right now, 4:33 pm (ET), a Local on the 8s split screen.
Local on the 8s at 33 minutes after the hour? :dunno:
This is actually the first time I've seen it, and I'm disappointed that it's just a national thing, as opposed to the local IntelliStar overlaying local information on it. It could certainly be done.
P.S.: Technical glitch - when the split screen ended, a couple of seconds later the whole picture went black. When it came back rather quickly, the LDL disappeared - no national or local LDL.
-
I was just about to post a topic on this.
It was slightly similar to a Storm Stories LOT8's, except it took up more space and it was showed the "Satellite" national forecast.
-
Maybe they're testing something?
Do you think it's possible that this split screen could potentially replace the seperate local forecast altogether? After all, that's 12 minutes every hour with only the most limited of advertising.
-
:43 and it's happening again.
-
No fair, i didn't see it because i came home from college at exactly 4:33
EDIT: not a glitch just saw it @ 4:43
-
I'd like to see a weather advisory scrawl on the bottom of the screen during this split screen, especially since it looks like the animated TWC logo won't line up with the LDL/scrawl's logo. It seems like it will be rather distracting at best.
Bug report: the split screen was still in progress at :45 when the commercials had to start, so Vivian Brown was cut off, and the commercial took over, at first full screen with the national LDL ad in the lower-left. Halfway through, the commercial shrunk to the split screen size again, but was surrounded by black.

That would be 11 minutes. ;)

This is the new squeeze-bar i'm guessing for jan 31st?
i'll post the SD version shortly

1.) You're assuming I actually know math. :bleh: Reason why I didn't become a meteorologist.
2.) In the late 1980s and early 1990s I had the variable local forecast schedule memorized. You could have named the hour and I could have told you when the local forecasts were shown. So bow down before me, knave!

It didn't come on at :53.

Also at :23, but not at :13.
It's weird how it has the HD LF.
-
This is just a test. It will have local information overlayed when it is used starting January 31.

thanks for the clarification Tyler

Really? I don't have an IS2 here, so I can't tell about the HD feed. I happened to be watching the SD feed (so I could see the local forecasts - there's yet another winter storm coming), and there was no local information on - not even an LDL.

On both SD and HD feeds?
Will this split screen be used only for longform programming, as I heard about, or will it be used during weather programming, too?
And what about my thought that this might replace the separate local forecast segments altogether? Not in the short-term, probably, but this is something that I can see happening eventually. It seems to follow with the technology that's available now versus what was available in the past. This is similar to my post about why the 3-day extended forecasts existed on earlier Stars (and still do as a legacy on the XL), but have been abandoned on the IS.

I meant the squeezeback. I'm watching the SD feed (don't have HD), and the squeezeback resembles the HD LF.

I don't think the LFs would be discontinued. If they were, then the legacy LDLs would have to cue, since the older STARs don't have much weather info outside of the LF, and TWC wouldn't like that. They don't cue the XL LDL, after all.
In addition, if the LFs were discontinued, and the legacy LDLs not cued, there would be no local weather to speak of. Thus, the older STARs would be come useless, and the companies with those STARs would be forced to buy an IS, which they might not be able to afford.

Yes the SD and HD IntelliStars will both overlay local data, and it will only be used during long form.

This is an EXTREMELY cool idea! I am very impressed at the graphics, etc. they were able to do on this.
-
Its a good idea, especially since they don't do live coverage during long form. I like t he graphics also, although they could be larger.

They do show live coverage at the top and bottom of the hour.

True, and every 30 min, but the time in between is 30 min and the weather does change frequently.
-
Will they still show the 1 min LOT8s forecasts at :28 and :58 after longform though?

I don't see why not..
-
Think of this split screen as a Lot8s without music for the :08/18 & :38/48 during long form.
-
Rawr, IMO any lf is incomplete without music :P

Definetely.
I'll be interested in seeing what the "local" LOT8s (whoa, does that make any sense? :P) looks like. I wonder if it'll be the same for SD and HD.
