That song that just played is "Industrial Love" by In Strict COnfidence. Also, what songs played from 4:58 to 5:18, Zach? I can try to ID them for you.

Hold on I lied, now soundhound is giving me a LINKIN PARK ID?

It might be this one (an instrumental version of Linkin Park's "New Divide"):

I love that song, but it does not fit on primetime and is too short of a song for a full 2:00 local IMO :hmm:

I don't think this song is on the primetime as Daniel has uploaded clips of Sorrow and New Divide on daytime, too. I would hope the songs are just mixed up in the playlist similiar to like what happened during Irene preemption (seeing that coverage today is preempted too).

I really hope there will be jazz in the daytime, and that there isn't a repeat of June till October 2009, when there was mostly rock music.

Title: Re: January/February 2012 Playlist

According to a reliable source, the full list does not come out until sometime next week. The songs you're hearing are extra songs from the playlist tossed into the mix. The rotation issues would be solved once the songs play in their appropriate dayparts in the full playlist

Seriously, what the hell is their obsession with that dang What I Got song by Sublime? Sheesh... <_< Is that like the only good song they've made or something?

This isn't on NBC completely.  You have to look at the music team and the people within TWC as well for their choices.  Let's wait and see what the whole playlist reveals before we all jump to conclusions here.

I'm actually somewhat confused by this playlist. I guess it's because as it's mostly rock, it breaks from the norm of the past several playlists, which definitely a lot more jazz than this one. It reminds of the first time I heard a vocal song on TWC. I was confused by it too, and I thought it was some kind of error.

The mostly rock playlist didn't work in 09, and it won't work now. If there is no jazz, it may be time to fire up that peititon again.

Once again guys...just because you're hearing rock in the primetime playlist (when it's generally that way anyways) doesn't mean the playlist has little to no jazz. You still have 3 other dayparts to pay attention to.
Title: Re: January/February 2012 Playlist
Post by: Localonthe8s on January 14, 2012, 09:40:28 AM
Absolutely horrible playlist, full of repeats. The morning music is practically the same as primetime. Only three different songs are some middle eastern sounding tune, Im Not Listening and Songbird by Ryan Farish. I will stand corrected if there is no new smooth jazz on daytime.

Post by: twcfan68 on January 14, 2012, 10:04:17 AM
I'm not too keen on the last song or the list so far, but to perfectly honest, what importance is it? I have most of the TWC songs that I like on my i-Pod, and TWC isn't even an important part of my life (I'm sorry if it is to you). I hardly watch it anymore, and I don't seem to be missing out on too much.

I do hope there is some jazz because I do enjoy listening to that, but if there isn't, there isn't squat I can do about it except do something better with my life and turn it off. I did, and I don't regret a day ever since.

"End of the line" played at 1:48pm ET.

I just feel that techno sound does not fit the local forecasts and is very distracting.

Yeah, hopefully a jazzy daytime, too.

I noticed some of the songs aren't in the right daypart. For example, a top favorite "Best of Times" by Yvonne Ayers is playing on the overnight, but it doesn't sound like an overnight tune to me. It's probably a daytime only song, but I recorded a clip of it from overnight nontheless

I would say TWC didn't pay particularly close attention to any of the 2011 Jazz CD's that came out which lead to a basically all rock list. hopefully with new 2012 Jazz CD's to come out by March there would be a more Smooth blended list.

I would say TWC didn't pay particularly close attention to any of the 2011 Jazz CD's that came out which lead to a basically all rock list. hopefully with new 2012 Jazz CD's to come out by March there would be a more Smooth blended list.
Yeah, I was wondering why TWC didn't pay attention to Spyro Gyra and the Rippingtons' releases in 2011.

I dont see Best of Times on that list? Also the time-in on Songbird is incorrect, it should be 0:00-2:00
Best of Times is likely retitled as Ancillary on this list.

Post by: twcfan68 on January 17, 2012, 05:28:31 PM
Well, I don't like the lack of jazz, but I don't think it'd be so bad if they didn't play some of the same songs all day; it would allow for a broader variety.

Ugh. I am a bit disappointed, but that's all I can say. TWC is going to change as time goes, and all I can do is either roll with it or not. A few years ago, I would've hated it, blamed NBC, etc., etc. But now that I'm more mature and have been forced to face unbelievable changes in my life, I am quite used to adapting to new things, and in the scheme of things, witnessing the experimentation of new genres is nothing.

I hope there are some more jazz songs in the future, but if not, there is always iTunes.  ;)

I encourage you to contact TWC or Melissa about this matter, though. Viewer input is always monitored (think about the recent LF change) so your opinions may make a difference. You should write your opinion of this change and suggest that the previous playlists set up with daytime smooth jazz and a variety of rock/pop/new age in other dayparts provided a myriad of genres in the playlists. it doesn't hurt to try.

I think having Linkin Park on the LF is very intrusive to the calmness one is supposed to feel during a LF, especially during a thunderstorm or something. The song isn't relaxing, sounds like someone is about to break into your house or kill you when I hear it.

I think if even there was more new age, like more Ryan Farish, or 7and5, the playlist wouldn't sound quite as jarring. There are only like 5 good songs IMO on this list. They should not have messed with the daytime and overnight.

I just can't believe TWC would nix smooth jazz like that from out of the blue. I guess that's why the November/December playlist was like this. It would be a real miracle if they did bring the jazz back at this point, which is likely never. This has really been hitting me hard this week but I just can't get over it. I mean it's just music on a TV station.

I was told they were moving toward a contemporary selection of music, and there is certainly a lot of smooth jazz that is contemporary..

also, you have to think.. TWC has never been all smooth jazz  with artists like Ryan Farish, who has been around since 2001, that's newage.. and Phish is rock

Also, back in the 1980s, a lot of instrumental rock was played too

Finally, for those who hate songs like Gut feeling, you have to think that Gut feeling (as an example) was actaully used back in 2005

I think "Gut Feeling" is a great song...well, the first two minutes of instrumental that TWC likes to use is great. I don't think contemporary and rock instrumentals are all terrible. Patrick Droney's "Everything" is great, and I think "Perfect" by Smashing Pumpkins is one of my all-time TWC favorites. just a few examples I liked.

However, I'm not going to lie-- I'm not particulalry fond of this month except for "Fireworks" and "Songbird." I think there are good songs out there, but that one that literally plays morning, noon, and evening (Something by Linkin Park, I think?) is not very pleasing to my ears.

I'll be curious to see if March is any better. I don't hate this month's playlist, but I would personally rank it the lowest since 2009. Just my opinion, though.

I don't think the younger audience is to blame, its the older audience looking for a new national geographic/discovery channel who we should really be mad at. Don't be surprised if TWC is becoming Fuse or MTV also with this rock music.

Best:
1) Ryan Farish - Groovemension
2) Moby - Fireworks
3) Aphex Twin - Avril 14
4) Yvonne Ayers - Ancillary
5) STS9 - Hidden Hand, Hidden Fist

Worst:
5) The Clash - Time is Tight
4) Smokey's Farmland Band - Calm Before the Storm
3) The Who - Eminence Front
2) Explosions in the Sky - Your Hand in Mine
1) Sublime - What I Got

Aside from my top 5, the only other songs I really like are New Divide, No One Gets Out Alive, and Winter in Chicago.

I'm not gonna bother to do a best/worst, but these are some of the songs I like.

- Gooding - Montana Girl
- Gooding - Winter In Chicago
- Ryan Farish - Songbird (it seems to fit better playing during the winter time to me)
- STS9 - Hidden Hand, Hidden Fist
- Daft Punk - End of Line
- Smokey's Farmland Band - Calm Before The Storm
- The Bunny The Bear - Rough Eyes

Honorable Mention
- Moby - Fireworks/Living
- Aphex Twins - Avril 14

The rest are crap.

Best:
Morning: Rough Eyes - The Bunny the Bear
Daytime: Railroad Cancellation - Don Caballero (this is the most jazziest sounding song in the list)
Primetime: Fireworks, Come Into My World, Groovemension, Hidden Hand Hidden Fist
Overnight: Lenny White - Coming Down

Worst:
Morning: Sublime - What I Got
Daytime: Smokey's Farmland Band - Calm Before the Storm, Gooding - No One Gets Out Alive
Primetime: Sublime - What I Got
Overnight: Moby - Living

"More appropriate playlist" and "afternoon and morning dayparts continuing to adapt" makes no sense whatsoever.

And if smooth jazz isn't popular on TWC, then why did they release 2 CDs on said genre? They even did promos saying that a lot of people enjoyed the "elevator music."

Have they changed the emergency feed music? I have seen a few videos where the emergency feed has kicked in, and instead of Trammell, it plays other music.
Example video... begins playing Moby "Living," then flips to Ryan Farish "Anthem of Hope" and then to Bobby Arnold "Daydreamer"

If those three songs are on the current playlist, then probably not. Trammell only plays when the current playlist fails. So this was probably just an error with the local forecast, not the playlist.
