Petition time!  ;)

i don't think a petition will work, if TWC wants to change the music just let them do it.

Instead of petitioning, why don't you try writing to them about your opinions? They do take viewer input into consideration.

According to Melissa, smooth jazz is not "gone." Let's just see what's on the next playlist...

What do you mean, Mike? She said the network doesn't foresee smooth jazz selections in the future. Hopefully this experiment fails.

I was told they were moving toward a contemporary selection of music, and there is certainly a lot of smooth jazz that is contemporary..

also, you have to think.. TWC has never been all smooth jazz  with artists like Ryan Farish, who has been around since 2001, that's newage.. and Phish is rock

Also, back in the 1980s, a lot of instrumental rock was played too

Finally, for those who hate songs like Gut feeling, you have to think that Gut feeling (as an example) was actaully used back in 2005

Hopefully this experiment fails.

This same experiement failed in both 2009 and 2010, i don't see why 2012 would make a difference.  :pinch:

The old playlists were perfectly fine. What difference does it make to have smooth jazz completely removed? :(

I don't know what the name of the song is that just played at 7:08 since I don't know most of the songs and don't really give a crap about this playlist, but anyway it reminded me of Trammell Starks for some reason....

EDIT: The song it kinda reminded me of was "Lazy Days" by Trammell Starks btw.

I think "Gut Feeling" is a great song...well, the first two minutes of instrumental that TWC likes to use is great. I don't think contemporary and rock instrumentals are all terrible. Patrick Droney's "Everything" is great, and I think "Perfect" by Smashing Pumpkins is one of my all-time TWC favorites. just a few examples I liked.

However, I'm not going to lie-- I'm not particulalry fond of this month except for "Fireworks" and "Songbird." I think there are good songs out there, but that one that literally plays morning, noon, and evening (Something by Linkin Park, I think?) is not very pleasing to my ears.

I'll be curious to see if March is any better. I don't hate this month's playlist, but I would personally rank it the lowest since 2009. Just my opinion, though.

I don't think the younger audience is to blame, its the older audience looking for a new national geographic/discovery channel who we should really be mad at. Don't be surprised if TWC is becoming Fuse or MTV also with this rock music.

4) Yvonne Ayers - Ancillary
5) STS9 - Hidden Hand, Hidden Fist

Worst:
5) The Clash - Time is Tight
4) Smokey's Farmland Band - Calm Before the Storm
3) The Who - Eminence Front

I'm not gonna bother to do a best/worst, but these are some of the songs I like.

- Gooding - Montana Girl
- Gooding - Winter In Chicago
- Ryan Farish - Songbird (it seems to fit better playing during the winter time to me)
- STS9 - Hidden Hand, Hidden Fist
- Daft Punk - End of Line
- Smokey's Farmland Band - Calm Before The Storm
- The Bunny The Bear - Rough Eyes

Honorable Mention
- Moby - Fireworks/Living
- Aphex Twins - Avril 14

The rest are crap.

Hi Alex,
As you know, the music on The Weather Channel has been evolving over the last several years toward a more appropriate play list. The music played during full-screen Local on the 8s on The Weather Channel during the afternoon and morning day parts continues to adapt. We do not foresee smooth jazz selections in future playlists. Going forward, our music team will keep investigating different genres to stay fresh and align with The Weather Channel brand.
As always, all BMI-licensed music, as well as unregistered music (with appropriate approval from the musician) will be considered.
