CableVision in New York just got its HD STAR going today. Here are some videos:

It looks very similar to the HD satellite forecast. However, it's still buggy, and it's missing several features (including the 48 Hour Forecast, the Almanac, and the LDL).

Malformed video ID...

Oh man, I wanted to see the videos. :(

WOW! :thrilled: The HD STAR has launched. Several screens are missing, however, and I can't wait to see them. :D
-
Some of the maps are from MS Virtual Earth. Darn, and I was thinking that TWC as going to use there own maps for this STAR. :(
-
While this is quite exciting to see this development take place, remember this is NOT the final product.
I disagree with the opinion about Microsoft Virtual Earth being used. I think it's a great addition. What's funny is that I had used that style of maps for my weather reports and now TWC has gone in that direction. Very cool.

Something that I've noticed...
The HD Star takes the exact same graphics (title banners, place IDs, maps, etc.) as the TWC HD graphics (of course). However, the HD Satellite Star's graphics are slightly different.

Not really. :hmm:
I have the HD Satellite LF, and they look like Billy's signiture. ;)
-
Is this running on Viz as well? If so, I can't wait for the dashes... :P
-
Only nitpick I have on it are the city labels, especially for the radar screen.
-
Just to let you guys know, the radar returns display underneath the city location labels. It doesn't look bad at all actually. Sorry for the poor image quality as I just snapped a picture with my cell phone.

I do think when all is said and done, I would expect more localized STARs than just the metropolitan area as a whole covered (to match the SD STARs). This includes of course a CC site. I can live with Central Park being that, but White Plains should be it if a new localized STAR is created for me specifically.
Maybe we'll still see some metropolitan area elements still used like the forecast maps for New York City, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and central New Jersey. The daypart forecast pages I can see, too, but perhaps the more important locations like Newark instead of Parsippany. The other three (Central Park, Islip and White Plains) are perfect because they're in my mind the best locations for each part of the metropolitan area. The getaway forecast locations are the same as what I have on my SD STAR, so I see no need for adjustments.
I am surprised there are no animated weather icons for the HD STAR, but given the smaller size icon for each location in the current conditions and forecast pages, perhaps it would be too difficult to detect on the screen. Who knows.

Now is this just in NYC currently?

I certainly wont be seeing that around here since my city is so small :(

This more metropolitan view will work better as weather scan HD then LOT8

When this BETA test was first run 9 days ago, the New York City metropolitan area was the first television market to have this done. That is at least to my knowledge.

I agree. But remember, this isn't the final product, so we shall see what changes (if any) are made between now and the official release of the completed HD STARs across the country.

It's kinda disappointing. But, to be on the bright side, there's no narration.

You know it. TWC just can't do without their narration. :P
-
They should just keep the Narration off the New star coming out then I'll be happy but if not i don't think i will watch TWC anymore.

If they do put narration on the new Star, they will be hearing from a REALLY unhappy fan. :club:

Quite honestly, it won't matter. I've said it numerous times before... the number of satisfied people significantly outweighs the number of people who despise the narration.
-
I don't even pay attention to the narration anymore like it's not even there. I've dealt with it for nearly five years, so I'm used to it.
-
I like the narration! Guess im the only one :P TWC should throw in some animated icons or something. Its a nice format but the whole forecast seems kinda blah to me. Im sure we will see a lot of changes in the months ahead.
-
While I'm not completely satisfied with the narration, I don't particularly hate it either.

That's what kinda disappoints me about the new Star, there are no animated icons. Hopefully they will put them in as the months go by.
-
Animated icons are almost a must for the HD STAR. I will be very surprised if it doesn't have them.
Also, I find the multi-city 36-Hour Forecast Page interesting.
And, I don't really like the "order" the screens are in so far, but it's highly likely they will change.
-
If they have a narrator, it shall be a female! :hammer:
i mean, it'll be something new. kind of like weatherscan.
-
Nice videos! Comcast in my area in Chicago just got TWC HD on ch 270.

Did you get an HD STAR? Or you simply just seeing the HD satellite feed?

AFAIK, the HD Star is currently only available in the NYC area via Cablevision while undergoing beta testing.

Well, my friend doesn't have the HD package. :(

I know that it is still in beta...but does anyone know if any changes were made to it since its release in NYC in September?
I can't wait for it to be officially released...the national hd feed is kinda gettin old..but the music though is still great hahaha....
-
Still waitin' for it out here in the 'burbs! Third friggin largest metropolitan area in the country.......

Theres still no narrations and the airport delays show up now. But the 7-day forecast is still buggy. If its not "Mon" showing up on Tuesday morning, theres two "Weds" on the 7-day
