Same boat as the 4000. There's no OS, and it uses EEPROMs aswell.

It is. Look at the description of another 4000 clip from that area:

Well, there's another company down there called Clearview Cable. Maybe that's the company and he got mixed up. Unless, his Comcast headend is a small one that serves a portion of Bel Air, and Gary's aunt lives in a different portion of the town that's served by another headend.

Bel Air, MD might have 2 different comcast headends. My area has two Comcast headends and their both 5 miles apart. The configuaration is also slightly different.

One of them might carry an  Intellistar and the other would carry a 4000

I was going to say that I thought it was Clearview, but Stephen referred me to the comment just before I made the post.

But i it is Comcast I guess it IS possible that this guy and my aunt are served by two different headends.

Yep, that's likely the case. I think Philadelphia also has several Comcast headends (I know there's a Center City one, a northeast one, a West Philly one, and possibly a few others).

I'm not 100% sure yet. Clearview serves a decent portion of hat area. Maybe that guy will eventually join u and clarify the situation.

Yeah, probably just two different headends. Comcast is notorious for that.

There use to be several here in Pittsburgh, until they consolidated into three headends.

Before Spring 2007:

22420 - Metro Pittsburgh
22434 - Oakmont/Natrona Hts/New Kensington
22435 - Greensburg/Latrobe
22436 - Leechburg & vicinity
22437 - Coraopolis/Sewickley/PIT Int'l Arpt. area
22438 - Penn Hills
24114 - California/Portvue/Monessen
26163 - Monroeville
26164 - Murrysville-Plum
26165 - Bethel Park/Mt Lebanon/Upper St. Clair
26276 - Freeport area

NOW:
22420 - all of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Washington, Westmoreland counties (except for the headend areas below)
22438 - Penn Hills
26164 - a larger combined area of Murrysville, Plum, Latrobe, Balirsville, and Ligonier

Its amazing how you guys live hundreds of miles away and pretty much assume this is the case. I only live 20-25 miles away and I'm not convinced just yet.
