I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

Now that I think about it... since they haven't been airing an actual LF during the event but one every 30min the other day... is Storm Alert music discontinued?

I think it's safe to say that the "Storm Alert" as we once knew it is discontinued, therefore the music probably doesn't exist anymore either. The only way to really know for sure is to have a CAT 3 or above hit the U.S. if TWC is really picky about when they want to activate it, but the extended coverage and amount of "red" we are seeing now is basically "Storm Alert," just without the name and special LF music.

You all need to think about this whole situation from a ratings point of view:  When there is boring weather, the long-form shows are more interesting to average people and draw better viewership than live weather coverage.  But when there is a hurricane making landfall, the live weather coverage draws far more interest than anything else.  All of these actions taken by TWC are exactly what you would expect if you consider their point of view.  Besides, the internet, a weather radio, and local news stations are becoming the best sources for local weather no matter what TWC shows on a LF.  I don't understand why there is so much complaining here. :dunno:

Thanks so much for the link, Zach. I don't know why I couldn't find that myself, lol. Again, thanks a lot. I can't wait to vastly expand my TWC music library on my iPod. I honestly didn't know TWCToday had a thing like this. Another reason to stay with the best.

I actually think TWC's plan for nonstop weather coverage is a good innovation. I just don't think Irene is the storm for it, but not a bad idea if we get another Ike, Katrina, Rita, etc. We haven't had a hurricane hit the US in nearly 3 years, so TWC is seizing the opportunity to make the most of it. I can't really blame them, as I would probably do the same thing if I were in their shoes.

Longform: "WAA, WHY AREN'T THEY ON THE AIR???"

Actually covering the situation: "WAA, WHY AREN'T THEY SHOWING THE LF???"

So, you guys are :cry3: either way.

I agree. I don't particularly care for the lack of actual LFs, but in the big scheme of things, it is no big deal. Let's be glad they are actually covering weather for a change, and not doing :30 updates with "Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the Carolinas, now back to Peter Lik (or Twist of Fate)."  :rofl2:
30 seconds might give them just enough time to add that there could be damaging winds and storm surge. In all seriousness while I do miss the LF it's good to see TWC providing actual coverage of Irene, and if there's too much complaining about that coverage then they just might go back to longform. I will say I'm disappointed that they took Jim Cantore out of Rhode Island, so if I'm not mistaken there is now nobody reporting from New England.

True, but I think many complain over Long-form because of the fact that it airs when there is a severe weather event occurring. If I am not mistaken, several wind gusts near hurricane force and several tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma for over 6hrs one night and all that was done was a quick update before going back to LFP.

Just ask your provider to get WeatherScan (2nd best choice)

Since the LFs aren't cueing because of Irene, does this mean the SA music is gone for good then?

This has been asked several times. We are not 100% sure, because TWC has not gone into a true "Storm Alert" mode since 2008. If a CAT 3 or higher hits the U.S. and they don't use the music, we'll know for sure. ;)

For all of you missing the storm alert theme, I recorded this exactly six years ago today!

Think there could have been any more statements on the Weather Bulletin? :P Wonder why they showed a blank page, though.

The IStar came back at :28   but it seems it's running the 90-second flavor. Hopefully the normal 2-minute flavor will be restored soon.

This is the only bad thing about the XL and older stars.  I haven't seen any type of local forecast for nearly 4 days. I so wish we had weatherscan! On another note: I actually seen a LF tonight at 328AM CDT but then after that they went back to the Lbar
