The squeezeback segment did not cue at 3:48PM PT, so the emergency feed was cued instead. Also, the EF now seems to have updated graphics  :o

Note: Sorry about the crappy quality as I took it with my phone.

Maybe that is a sign of things to come

I'm very suspicious with the sudden ditching of squeezeback locals during longform. Could it be tomorrow that we see the demise of full screen LOT8s? 5/6 was the start of new programming changes including new series as stated during TWC's upfront months back, but I wouldn't think it would be that soon.

And even though I didn't want to, I decided to message Melissa recently about this and I got no reply..so this will something to look out for.

I believe so, Andy   When I was watching this, I heard Gooding's "Montana Girl" playing in the background, which is part of the EF playlist IIRC

I don't know if TWC has gotten more careful about technical fails or what, but we rarely see this happen nowadays.

Our system has no IS2 and the emergency feed was just on as the national feed had just the LDL with a black screen after the LOT8's.
TWCHD20130519_0132

It just came on again in place of the national local forecast.

Checked on the SD feed which has the IS it had the local forecast with no music.

Those are completely ugly graphics which provide so little useful information.

The new emergency feed reminds me of TWC's old satellite LFs circa mid-late 90s.

I don't mind the graphics, but it's distracting when the map tilts in between each daypart. And the icons, please, make it so they're all in sync with each other.  :hammer:

I like the smoothness of the radar/satellite loops as opposed to before, but the day-by-day maps are just awful.  You get seasick watching them!  Even worse, the maps themselves transition from one view to the next smoothly, but the precipitation drawings don't transition - they just jump from one slide to the next.

Wow!  They have a Storm Reports map on the Emergency Feed?! :o  I wonder what other hidden treasures it contains?  I don't think we've seen the new Emergency Feed loop all the way through yet, have we?

Maybe this is a sign of things to come for the LOT8s.  I almost wish the EF would replace the regular national satellite, as the graphics on the EF are much clearer and match those with what TWC currently has on-air.  The only thing I wish could be better is, as Eric said, those day-by-day maps.

I personally feel the Storm Reports map belongs on the individual LFs when there's severe weather around.  Having all the storm reports cluttered on a national map with no legend or specifics to tell you anything doesn't really help.  I can't tell you how much I wished the LF catered more to significant weather situations with actual graphics of the warning polygons on the screen and information about the closet warning to you in a text box.  It does make you wonder what else is in the present-day emergency feed that might be valuable and should be in the actual LF lineup.

What I am quite confused about is how (and more importantly, why) the EF went from this very simplistic set of screens (no transitions, animated icons, etc.) to this rather fancy display with map transitions, animating icons, and fresh new graphics.  I did not think the EF had the capability of doing this.  Furthermore, why the heck make something you hope to never have to show this fancy?  With the exception of the day-by-day map transitions, I honestly would prefer the EF over the current national satellite.  It looks stunning on a big HD TV.

Additionally, as Patrick mentioned, why save the "good stuff" (like a storm report map) for the EF?  That would be something very useful on a regular, local LF.  Unfortunately, these are probably questions that cannot be answered at this point.  With this talk of a supposed LoT8s revamp, maybe this is a sign of things to come.
