No, they go by the cable/satellite sources. Whatever WeatherSTAR Unit the cable company carries, that's what the hotels get. If they go by DirecTV, they might get the local forecasts from there (if they ever activate the local forecast application on the receivers). If they go by Dish Network, all they get is the national forecasts from TWC.

I've stayed at a couple hotels with absolutely NO STAR. No satellite LDL, no ID # or cable provider, no local information inserts, just the satellite feed.

On hotels that run cable via DirecTV, I would've told the management to activate the local weather app on the receivers, but they won't know what I'm talking about.

I used to stay at a Clarion Hotel in Kissimmee, FL and they had the IS on Adelphia.

Most hotels I've stayed at have satellite, but the most recent one I stayed had a Cablevision IntelliStar.

Hmm. At my workplace we have DirecTV (I think) and all we get are the national forecasts. How would one go about activating local forecasts? And more importantly, is there any catch to it that would make my boss mad?  :P

I stayed in Cocoa Beach this past week, and the Holiday Inn had the DirecTV feed. We then moved down 2 hotels to the Hilton, they had the same thing.

I stayed at a hotel in NC back in June 2002, and they had satellite. Don't know if it was direct, or via DirecTV or Dish, since they didn't have satellite LDL back then. It did have the scary grass background, though. :D

I've been to hotels which have cable. Most recently an Orlando, Florida hotel which had an IntelliStar.

I've been to several hotels in Ocean City and all had cable, and a STAR.
Ocean City, MD? I was there back in 1999 and remembered seeing the XL at a hotel there. Although the current conditions were from Ocean City, it showed the forecast for Salisbury, which is about 30 miles inland. Also, the entire time I was there Ocean City wasn't reporting sky conditions.

I was in Ocean City, MD over the summer and have uploaded some IntelliStar clips from there. Though, it wasn't in a hotel, but my sister's friend's beach condo.
