Not ready yet - recieved confirmation that it'll start around the 3rd or 4th as stated on the General LF topic and that two of Chris Geith's songs from Island of a Thousand Dreams, "Watch Your Step" and "Once Upon a Time" and Steve Glotzer's tune "Zeke's Lament" will be on air soon...
-
That's some awesome news Molly thanks for posting!
-
Can you tell us anything else? Or is that all you know?

That's all. But knowing TWC, they could probably kick those songs out in favor of other songs. Remember, music is not priority to TWC anymore.

I'm just surprised that you're able to find out this much information already even before the playlist has been launched.

I have my ways of finding out but keep in mind that this information is subject to change. There is no guarantee of the playlist starting next week. If anything, I'm surprised about this news.
-
I wonder how the primetime is going to look. I wonder if it will be repeats galore again. :( I hope some more smooth jazz songs will play in primetime.
-
I wonder how this "timeframe" will pan out knowing how TWC runs the music now they'll probably change the date to mid month.

Don't be surprised if the playlist doesn't change until sometime around the 20th.
-
I'm just glad that the playlist is going to change soon. I don't mind the repeats, but I do hope that TWC will gradually incorporate more jazz songs again, especially for the primetime playlist.
-
I agree, or at least use newer jazz songs on the primetime slot

I agree, or at least use newer jazz songs on the primetime slot
Ever since the whole format changed in June 2009, the primetime has been completely allergic to jazz.

Its more like an ongoing cold (:P) because until 2010 the daytime daypart was allergic to jazz but at least it wasnt as heavy as the primetime slot

Ive asked before that topics regarding playlists not be started until after the playlist starts
I believe the playlist has started now and on time. I'm impressed. I heard Ryan Farish's "Sunshine in the Rain" and 4 other songs in the overnight I have no idea of the artist or title.

Yes, the playlist has started. And on time this year! Well, I am typing this at 6:48 AM CT, so if I know the song that plays, I will put it at the end of the post.
It's some beach song, that I really don't care for
At least there is some Ryan Farish.
-
It has started, as I heard in this moment by Ryan farish and the thrill is gone by bb king earlier this morning
-
Pan funk by Bickley Rivera at :38.
-
The morning is full of repeats, but good repeats I guess, but there was one new song at 9:08am that sounds like something you would hear on Spongebob Squarepants to me and another one at 9:38am. I'm happy to hear Daydreamer during the day instead of like at 5 in the morning when I can't sleep.
-
Colortones by Ryan Farish from 6/09 a few minutes ago. Not a bad song. Finally a break from his new CD.

Just heard the Spongebob song again!!! :hammer: It reminds you of Goo Lagoon for sure.
-
I hope Brian Hughes's "The Bridge" is aired on this list or the October one.
-
Song that sounds like Yvonne Ayers just aired. Nice! :D
-
David Benoit song from last playlist at 10:18AM CT. <_< If that song used again in this playlist, I'll so tired of hearing it. They need to use repeats from before 2009.

Geez Felix calm down... that song isn't on the playlist it's just being transitioned right now.

oh ok.
Piano song at 10:28AM CT.
-
Like that song that played 12:28PM ET!!! It has a steel pan, and the chorus goes "Take Me Away."
-
I actually like "Botswana Bossa Nova" by David Benoit. It's on my iPod.
-
OMG!!
I nearly JUST fainted. I heard "Wishbone" by Physical Therapy from 1995 at :48. Talk about a blast from the past!
-
Well, they did brought back MOST of RF's old songs. I see my favorites, Colortones and In This Moment are being used. w00t! If they added maybe JUST one of his Bloom songs (such as "Bloom" :P) Then I'd be satisfied.
Not the best so far, IMO, but I can live with it.
-
OMG!!
I nearly JUST fainted. I heard "Wishbone" by Physical Therapy from 1995 at :48. Talk about a blast from the past!
really.. actually Wishbone aired in 4/93 thru 1/94 (except 7/93) and again in Mid 1996, not '95
-
Bloom was getting too old... I'm glad they brought his older (and IMO better) songs back.

my bad, I thought I saw a video of that song on YT from 1995. It also played briefly in 2000. Either way, that's amazing Physical Therapy/Terry Coleman would make a comeback. :D
-
Terry Coleman was in Physical Therapy? :o Now if only they played some of his solo works like Cool Breeze or Autumn Dance.
-
Terry Coleman was in Physical Therapy? :o
Yep
-
I forgot to mention this earlier, but is it me or does that new Chris Geith song sound very similar to "Groove Detective"?
-

Yes, I noticed.

This rocks in so many ways I can't even comprehend.
What are the times for the different dayparts again?

Daytime - 11am - 5pm
Primetime - 5pm - 1am
Overnight - 1am - 6am

Seems the Primetime Daypart is in "Playlist Transition mode" just like 11:18 and 11:48 this morning for daytime.

TWC loves its current music pattern
Daytime: Perfect as always
Primetime: has it's bright spots
Overnight: Perfect as always
Morning: Also has it's bright spots
-
Actually, even the Morning and Primetime playlists aren't that bad this month. While there are still repeats, there aren't that many and there are some songs that I'm glad to see back (such as Windjammer, Colortones, and One Fine Day). Also, there's considerably less rock on this playlist than last month's. Morning has more new-age and jazz than before. The bigger daytime and overnight playlist also adds more jazz into this.

56 songs in total? (including the ones used in more than one daypart) Why are there so many being used this time around? :dunno:
@Mike - I agree with you about this playlist, I'm also glad to see some of Ryan's older music being used.
-
Maybe TWC is testing out a new concept?
-
56 songs in a single playlist? Wow, that might be a new record! I don't recall any of the classic playlists having that many songs. Please feel free to check me here.

It's actually 53, several of the songs are played in other dayparts like Pan Funk in Daytime and Morning and Diamond Eyes in Daytime and Primetime.

I believe that the Bucs will be better this year. I don't know if they'll make the playoffs, but I think they'll definitely win more games.
I like Cliffs of Dover too. I am also glad to see Jessica back.
-
It's a very interesting setup this time. It will take a lot of getting used to for some of the newer songs. I expect this playlist to run longer than usual.

I keep missing Wishbone!!!!!!! I have not heard it yet!! :(
-
I caught the 2 min of wishbone it will be added to the playlist clips thread.
-
So this time, "Physical Therapy - Wishbone" starts at 11sec.
-
This is the best overall playlist TWC has issued in a year. :D I like the fact that there are more jazz songs, even in primetime. I like the return of long-time TWC classics like Wishbone, the Thrill is Gone, and Jessica.

I agree, I like this playlist very much. This is the first primetime list since January that was pretty good as well. They repeated a few of my favorite January songs like Eminence Front and Magnificent Eleven and "Cliffs of dover" from October 09. Since there are so many songs and Magnificent Eleven is tossed in before the football season, I won't expect a new list to start until somewhere around early to mid-October.

I haven't heard Jessica either. I remember when it first came on in April 2000.

Yes, it's the same cut as all the other playlists it was used besides 9/09.
-
The rotation is horrendous, too much repetition

I'm glad it is, That was a horrible cut they used that month.
The rotation is horrendous, too much repetition
It certainly is, there are a lot of songs I still have not heard play on this playlist yet. Maybe if they didn't have so many songs in the playlist or songs repeating in more than one daypart of the playlist it would rotate better.
-
I agree. Magnificent Eleven is overplayed. I think a way of combatting this is to let TWC run on DVD or VCR for a few hours, to see if you can catch your favorite songs.
-
I have not heard the Herb Alpert, Jill Switzer or Dreams of Ibiza by BIckley Rivera either
-

I have heard the Herb Alpert song at least once. I think I heard it after Storm Stories or something like that. The problem is exacerbated with the long-form programming on weekday afternoons and especially on weekends from the afternoon until the overnight hours. You'll only get to hear 1 min of the songs play, not even on the 8s!! :hammer: I think that is when some of these unheard songs play. The rotation needs to be tweaked very much, because there are a lot of quality songs throughout the playlist that should be played, but they are not. For instance, all I hear during most of the times I have turned during primetime is Magnificent Eleven, Eminence Front, and Diamond Eyes. :dunno:
-
lol that's precisely the issue, the rotation is so bad that I only can hear the same songs over and over again. All I hear during daytime is Pan Funk , Diamond Eyes, Just Promise Me, Waiting for You and Take Me Away and in the primetime it's Diamond Eyes, Mag 11,Eminence Front and Beach Street Music song 1. The morning and overnight rotations however, are better.

Whoa Walk Dont Run by Herb Alpert just played  I like it!
Yeah, it is a very short song too. It is only 1:46, so it would only be used during the long-form programming.

Richard Elliot. I enjoy music like that.

I got a Reply about the playlist expansion concept and why the songs are repeating at a rapid pace.
Hi Alex,
It is not an error, but I know what is happening. The songs in question are definitely in the playlist, but they may not play as frequently. We added 4 or 5 songs to each daypart this month to help cut down on repeating the same song back to back. Of course, our system selects songs by local forecast length, so the additional tracks are only scheduled to play in the :60 and :90 locals (not the 2 minute locals). We are still making adjustments to the mix so that these additional tracks will play more often.

Morning: Windjammer by Ryan Farish (best), Green onions (worst, needs a break)
Daytime: Pan Funk by Bickley Rivera (best, fits daytime, not on morning), Take me away (Vocals on jazz music= one ruined song, worst)
Primetime: Diamonds eyes (best, reason: jazz), tie between the 4 most repeated songs (Mag. 11, Emeciene, Cliff of Dover, grew tired of it, and Yet Unknown, does not sounds like Trance Fury at all. this is hate i rock music)
Overnight: Sacrifice by SounDoctrine (best), no worst songs.
Morning: Alright. 8/10
Daytime: best as usual. No rock songs. 10/10.
Primetime: Dissapointing. Rotation is annoying and I kept hearing the same 4 songs (that are my least favorite) over and over. 2 better changes: starts primetime at 6PM, and less rock, more jazz. 2/10
Overnight: 2nd best. 9/10

An hour later isn't going to make much of a difference. And I don't know about you, but there's a considerable amount of jazz on primetime compared to recent playlists.

The list that needs to be modified the most is morning especially because it gets less airtime because the 2hrs of wuwa

I don't know about you but the only jazz song on primetime that I see is the Michael Haggins song..
Anyways here's my list of the worst and best:
BEST
Morning: Ocean Afternoon by Marlenne Saientz (such a happy and cheerful jazz song)
Daytime: Tie between Coming Up by Bryan Steele (I wish it played on 2 min flavors) and Wishbone by Physical Therapy
Primetime: Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd (good beat with that one)
Overnight: Guilt by Trance Fury (catchy)
Worst:
Morning:Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs (never liked this song and it could be given a rest already)
Daytime: One Fine Day by Ryan Farish (doesn't sound like his style at all)
Primetime: None really, all of the songs are either good or okay, but none are bad.
Overnight: Loveless Cafe by 20 Minutes To Park (sounds very random and lacks melody)
-
BEST
Morning: Rock Steady (definitely song that gets you up and ready for the morning)
Daytime: Pan Funk, Take Me Away, Once in a Lifetime, Mr. Groove
Primetime: Jessica, Diamond Eyes (only jazz song on primetime)
Overnight: Thrill is Gone (perfect for overnight hours)
WORST
Morning: Daydreaming (not bad, but much more of an overnight song), Green Onions (has been on the TWC playlist several times this year, already )
Daytime: None
Primetime: Magnificent Eleven (not bad, but is overplayed!!!!! :hammer:)
Overnight: None
HONORABLE MENTION
Walk, don't run - Herb Alpert - Think of some 60's action or beach movie anytime you hear it. Not my style, really, but catchy.
Walk, don't run - The Ventures - Sounds like something on Spongebob. Again, not my style, but is strangely catchy. :bleh:

More jazzy songs are on this primetime list, I guess that's a good thing. I like most of the songs on this list.

What other jazz songs do you see on the primetime list? The only jazz song on it is "Diamond Eyes" by Michael Haggins. All of the repeats are rock. The Beach Street Music songs are a mix of rock/new-age production music, Essence by Ryan Farish is new-age, Yet Unknown, Have a Cigar, NY/Melting Pot and Monoliths are rock songs as well

Exactly. We have kind of gotten used to the primetime being filled with rock, new age, and soundtrack music, with maybe a token smooth jazz song.

Yeah, I think that's the purpose why the primetime list was lengthened anyways.
BTW, is "Guilt" by Trance Fury even playing on this list anymore? I record for 4 nights straight all the K flavors from 1am-6am and this song has not played at all :(

I havent heard Wishbone by Physical Therapy on the daytime too much either

Yeah, I guess your right. But some of those songs you mentioned have a slight jazzy feeling, though, for some reason.

Yeah, especially some of the Beach Street songs. Unbitten sounds Trammell Starks-ish to me.
